Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon?
Chapter 1787 - 1051: Failed Plan
"Why are you the one delivering it today?"
Luluwo asked casually.
That offhand sentence—careless from the speaker, loaded for the listener—made a bead of sweat instantly slide down Chaos’s forehead. He hurriedly said, "I just happened to pass by the kitchen, so I dropped it off on the way."
"Really? Thanks. Is my office that hot? Why are you sweating?"
"Ah-haha, I’m kinda weak lately, you know, the professors keep dragging me off for experiments..."
Damn, is this woman starting to suspect me?
Chaos felt a bad premonition, but when he saw Luluwo pick up the sandwich, he finally relaxed a bit. Victory in sight!
The sandwich was lifted to Luluwo’s lips. Just as she was about to bite down, she suddenly paused, frowned, and said, "This sandwich..."
Chaos’s heart gave a lurch. He asked, "What’s wrong with the sandwich?"
"The bread’s toasted to just the right degree. Who was in the kitchen? This is better than what Mila makes, praise them for me."
"Oh... oh..." Chaos’s face was covered in black lines.
The Skyrim Strategy Group hadn’t hired any professional cooks; the cafeteria’s daily meals were made by members on rotation. Everyone’s cooking skills varied, but the ingredients supplied by Sain Dungeon were top-notch.
No matter how bad the cooking, as long as the ingredients are the kind that taste mind-blowingly good even boiled in plain water or eaten raw with zero processing, three meals a day are going to be pure bliss.
Under Chaos’s expectant gaze, Luluwo finally took a huge bite of that sandwich that could send a diabetic straight to their grave, chewing like a hamster stuffing its cheeks.
Success!
This moment deserves some epic background music!
Chaos was so excited inside that his hands curled into tight fists, yet on the surface he kept his emotions hidden, still maintaining that calm smile.
Yes, I did it!
She finally ate the sandwich I spiked with the Fallen Demon Egg!
Why was he the one delivering afternoon tea today? Obviously because he’d just "seasoned" it a little—no way she’s ever eaten finely chopped Fallen Demon Egg before!
Times are advancing; Fallen Demon Eggs that can still take effect even after being chopped up and swallowed have already been developed. They still have plenty of flaws, but Luluwo’s afternoon tea is so Heavy Taste that the egg is perfectly disguised in it. Once chopped up, its texture is just like springy hawthorn jelly.
Hehehehe, now I just need to wait for it to kick in!
We’re about to gain another top general for our side!
Luluwo polished off that nearly ten-thousand-calorie sandwich in no time, then downed the expensive tea in one gulp, finally letting out a long, contented sigh.
If people saw this, they’d probably accuse her of wasting good tea leaves.
By rights, once afternoon tea was delivered, Chaos could leave and go about his own business, but he planned to stay here until the Fallen Demon Egg took effect.
It wouldn’t take long. He wanted to assign tasks to the converted Luluwo as soon as possible.
What he’d just fed her was the last Fallen Demon Egg he’d managed to get his hands on. He’d never dared use it until now because he hadn’t picked a suitable target. Looking at Luluwo, she was clearly the most ideal candidate.
Just as he felt the situation was locked in, Luluwo suddenly pulled open a desk drawer.
Then she took out a pure white, jade-like Happiness Egg and chugged half of it in one go.
"Ah, the blissful little cycle..."
With a mouthful of Happiness Egg down the hatch, the wave of euphoria instantly shot past Skyrim itself. Luluwo’s expression became more intoxicated than someone high on ice, her whole body melting into the happiness brought by food, completely unable to extricate herself.
At the same time, Chaos’s face went dark, because he sensed that all the Fallen Demon Eggs that had just started working inside Luluwo’s body were dying off!
Like bugs sprayed with insecticide, they dropped dead in droves, then were utterly wiped out.
That damned Happiness Egg!!!
Why does she have Happiness Eggs in her drawer!!!
Chaos twisted his face and cast a glance over.
He saw Luluwo’s desk drawer stuffed full with dozens of Happiness Eggs.
Boiled, soaked in tea, pickled, eaten raw—every way of eating them was on display.
"What are you staring at? I’m not addicted, okay? I don’t need to sign up for that Happiness Egg withdrawal class, got it?"
Already floating with joy, Luluwo let out a threat that carried zero threat.
"...Yes, yes."
Chaos left the office with a black face.
Leaving the Happiness-addicted Luluwo behind inside.
He walked back to his dorm in silence, shut the door, activated a Sound Insulation Barrier, and after making sure no one was nearby—
"Damn it, the plan failed aaaah!"
"What kind of normal person keeps Happiness Eggs stocked on hand?! That huge sandwich wasn’t enough to fill you up, you damn woman?!"
"Why didn’t I scout out the office beforehand? I wasted the last Fallen Demon Egg I had!"
If he hadn’t activated a Sound Insulation Barrier, his roaring would probably be echoing through the entire camp by now. Sound Insulation Barriers really are the Magicians’ greatest invention.
"Damn it, damn it..."
Even after calming down, Chaos was still cursing under his breath.
He was too desperate for merit; he’d gone charging in with the Fallen Demon Egg without properly scouting first. This wave definitely had a big chunk of his own carelessness in it, but the bigger problem was—
The Fallen Demon Egg only needs a few minutes to take effect. Who’d expect something to go wrong in that tiny, snap-of-the-fingers window?
Chaos knew Happiness Eggs obstruct the Fallen Demon Egg’s effect, so of course he’d taken precautions. He’d even secretly tampered with the procurement list so that the Skyrim Strategy Group cafeteria wouldn’t be able to supply Happiness Eggs for the next week.
He just didn’t expect Luluwo to be hoarding the stuff herself.
She’d never told anyone about this, so there was no way to dig up intel.
Chaos felt utterly despairing toward this era where everyone’s obsessed with popping Happiness Eggs, and let out a heart-wrenching curse.
"No choice, I’ll have to contact Lady Onora and ask when she can send another batch of Fallen Demon Eggs over."
Even he felt that was unlikely.
He knew that the Dungeon on the human side had an insider continuously helping the Demon Clan transport supplies over, because he’d previously been in charge of receiving shipments.
Originally, all those people and supplies being shipped in were preparation for a large-scale future war with humans. If nothing changed, the full-on war should’ve broken out by the end of this year.
But the problem now was that the Dungeon had started showing signs of non-cooperation one or two months ago. Transport volume had plummeted. Ever since he stopped handling the reception, Chaos no longer knew whether that Dungeon was even still operating.
With the Demon Continent currently in a massive free-for-all among the various factions, no one had the spare attention for the war with humans. Everyone was too busy attacking each other to think about the outside world, so this transport route was basically left to rot.
Rotting or not, it should still work if we use it, right? That was his thought. Deep down, he was still hoping the main base would send more comrades over.
Chaos drew a Magic Array on the floor, sat down inside in a meditation pose, and tried to contact Onora, requesting that she possess him for a call.
But several attempts in a row got no response.
"Weird. Didn’t she say what I’m doing here is really important to her? Why isn’t she contacting me at all now?"
He sent one last request. This time Onora finally connected. His eyes instantly turned half normal, half blood-red, and a voice unlike his usual tone came out of his mouth:
"Don’t bother me, I’m in the Dungeon right now!"
"Zzzzz..."
Chaos’s eyes returned to normal in an instant. Completely stunned, he said:
"The call... got cut off?"
