Chapter 161: Chapter 148: Server-Wide Announcement: First Trade with Native People

Seeing that the Void Beast was chatting quite well with Seabird One, Seabird Two, and the others, Rowan Rhodes brought out some more fruits and drinks. Not only did she give them to the Seagull Family, but she also sent some up to the diligent Big Turtle on the fourth floor. Only then did she find a chair nearby and sit down.

With toxic gas filling the sky outside, going out meant consuming Anti-toxic Equipment, air Masks, and other items. For Rowan Rhodes, the resources gained wouldn’t be proportional to the cost; guided by Nature, it was better to stay indoors.

The moment she sat down, she couldn’t resist using the Space Stones the Void Beast had just given her. One Space Stone could add a single inventory slot with a capacity of 99. Ten Space Stones could upgrade a slot’s capacity from 99 to 999. For Rowan Rhodes, adding more inventory slots was obviously the more cost-effective choice. After all, a capacity of 99 was already sufficient for most situations.

The Void Beast had just given her twenty Space Stones, instantly expanding her inventory from ten slots to thirty. Looking at her two extra rows of inventory slots, her gaze unconsciously drifted back to the Void Beast. She thought, "No wonder players are greedy! In their shoes, I’d be greedy too!" This was especially true since she hoped to have a continuous supply of Space Stones even after leaving the Void Isle. After all, Space Stones were a product of the Void Isle. Once this opportunity passed, it would be gone for good.

At least, that was the case for all the islands Rowan Rhodes currently knew of. Though perhaps a Medium Island or a large island in the future might have them as well. She figured that if the opportunity arose, she might just test the absolute limit of her inventory slots! With that in mind, her gaze unconsciously landed on the Void Beast beside her once again. She wondered if there was a way to establish a long-term trading channel with the Void Beast, assuming she couldn’t recruit it. Perhaps the latter would be more suitable for their current situation.

Just as she was contemplating this, the Void Beast’s voice suddenly rang in her ears.

"Human, can I follow you too, just like Seabird One and the others?"

Hearing this, Rowan Rhodes was instantly stunned. She thought, "What is this? Ask and you shall receive?"

Suppressing her excitement, she replied, "Sure! But there are two ways to do this. The first is like Seabird One and the others—you become my pet. I won’t just provide you with delicious food; I’ll also cover all the resources you need to level up. The second is a cooperative partnership. You give me a certain number of Space Stones, and I give you the corresponding resources in return.

"Personally, I lean towards starting with a partnership. That way, you’ll have more freedom, and you can take your time to see if this arrangement benefits you in the long run. Also, if you leave with me, will you still be able to return to the Void Isle? If you can’t come back, is that something you can accept?"

Rowan Rhodes laid out all the potential issues the Void Beast might face right in front of it. She definitely had designs on the creature, but she had no intention of exploiting it. After all, the Void Beast was practically holding onto a massive treasure. She wondered what would happen if the naive creature joined her camp now, only to suddenly feel deceived in the future. She much preferred for the other party to be a willing participant.

Listening to her words, the Void Beast replied without a second thought, "Human, then I’ll listen to you. Let’s start with a partnership. I’m only staying on the Void Isle for a little while anyway. After that, I can return to my clan’s territory!"

Hearing the Void Beast’s words, Rowan Rhodes paused. She could seemingly confirm one thing. This small island wasn’t the original homeland of the Void Beasts; rather, they were more like NPCs specifically placed for players by the Sea Survival Game. However, this also meant that as the game progressed, players were truly likely to encounter more and more NPCs. And not just creatures possessing Wisdom, but other races as well.

But this also spelled out an even greater challenge. Rowan Rhodes let out a long breath in her heart.

"Alright! We’ll partner up first. So, do you need to work on the Void Isle for a while before finding me, or are you coming with me right now?" she continued asking.

"I’ll place a tracking marker on you so I can come find you whenever I’m not busy," the Void Beast said cheerfully. "Once my work is completely finished, I’ll stay by your side for good."

A tracking marker? Whenever?

Rowan Rhodes was genuinely growing curious about the Void Beast’s abilities. She had a feeling that perhaps, through the Void Beast, she could gain a deeper understanding of the Sea Survival Game’s background. This would be a crucial channel for her to learn more about the Sea Survival Game.

"Then I’ll prepare a small room for you." Rowan Rhodes decided to continue modifying the fourth floor. Under most circumstances, everyone’s range of activity spanned the entire raft, making individual rooms relatively unimportant.
