Chapter 478: Chapter 166: The ’80s Drama Queen Forced to Become a Top Student (Part 1)
Otherwise, no matter how popular they were with the audience, they would still be shelved. The rest of their lives would be spent in poverty and destitution!
For those who traveled among the Great Thousand Worlds, this was undoubtedly the most severe punishment.
So even if they suspected the company had rigged Gu Yun’s prize, they could only pretend not to know or see. They didn’t dare ask, and they didn’t dare speak of it.
Once they had sufficiently braced themselves, the crowd put thoughts of Sister Yun aside and grew intensely curious about the mysterious guest.
This guest was the ladder the company had given Gu Yun for her to soar to the top. As long as she pleased him, she could have as many of the first four prizes as she wanted, let alone anything else. She wouldn’t even have to suffer through missions in other planes just to entertain the public anymore.
Sister Yun was stunned for a moment. When she saw the spotlight fall upon a tall, slender figure, her mind went completely blank.
In all her time as a task-doer, in all the many planes she had visited, she had never seen a face like his.
It was as if time itself had meticulously selected and sculpted this man to create a beauty unparalleled in heaven or on earth.
Even though this was the second time she was seeing him, the impact of his unique beauty was still so immense that her composure and every last bit of her pretense shattered...
’Just one thought remained in Sister Yun’s mind: Why was I so stubborn? Why did I actually wear all black to the year-end party? Wouldn’t a passionate, fiery red have been a much better choice?’
Soft, slow music began to play, and the crowd parted to reveal a spacious dance floor.
The man approached, gave a gentlemanly bow, and extended his hand in invitation.
Gu Yun blinked, pinched herself lightly, and then placed her hand in his with a soft chuckle.
The moment their hands touched, a tremor ran through both of them. It was like parched earth finally receiving a sweet rain, like new shoots trembling at the first touch of a spring breeze, bursting forth in a frenzy of growth!
The man squeezed her hand gently and pulled her into his embrace, his other hand coming to rest on her slender waist. He leaned in close to her ear and murmured in a low, familiar voice, "Yunyun, you look beautiful today..."
The man’s hot breath ghosted over her ear, making the fine hairs there stand on end. A tingling sensation shot up from the base of her spine to her scalp.
An overwhelming scent of pheromones enveloped her like a giant net, binding her tightly, pulling her in, tighter and tighter. The places he touched on her waist and hand felt as if they had been seared by a scorching brand...
And yet, her body delighted in it, her legs growing so weak they felt like they would give out.
Seeing the powerful effect he had on her, the man’s smile widened, but deep within his eyes, a chilling indifference and a faint mockery remained hidden.
To Sister Yun, the man’s dancing was flawless. She felt like a mere accessory he was maneuvering, led and spun at his whim, with no effort required from her at all.
She focused frantically on keeping up with the rhythm, desperate not to step on his feet and embarrass herself. This intense concentration, however, made her somewhat oblivious to the man himself.
As the music ended, the man held her waist tightly. His other hand caressed her chin, his expression a mask of troubled anguish as he accused her in a deeply aggrieved tone:
"Yunyun, you always performed so well on your missions. Why have you broken the rules these last few times?"
Gu Yun was baffled. ’Isn’t he laying it on a bit thick?’
The main issue was that she didn’t know him well, so she couldn’t get into the role he was playing. Instead, a wary chill crept over her.
She struggled to control her eyes, which had a weakness for handsome faces. Her gaze drifted from his broad shoulders up to the diamond-patterned ceiling. Her voice, still slightly breathless, carried its usual languid tone. "And who might you be?"
Her voice was like a baptism to the man’s ears. A strange sensation seemed to jolt through him.
He released her and took half a step back, staring at her intently. A corner of his lip curled up. "A long-time admirer of Yunyun, of course. The kind who wants to marry you and possess you completely."
"However, my family has very strict requirements for my future wife, so, Yunyun..."
They both understood his unspoken words.
Sister Yun stared at the top button of his shirt, her lips pressing into a faint smile. "A man like you is a rare sight indeed."
"So I’ve made quite an impression on Yunyun, have I?" the man replied, raising an eyebrow with a meaningful smile of his own.
"Unforgettable," she admitted with a frank nod.
’After "unforgettable upon first sight" comes the rest of the line: "driven to madness by the thought of you."’
Satisfied, the man reached out and smoothed a stray strand of her hair. "It seems my efforts weren’t in vain, brazenly using the company party to ask for a dance with you."
