Chapter 443: Chapter 158: The Green Tea Female Supporting Character in a Period Novel (45)

The assistant was young, a second-generation doctor, and a close childhood friend of Jiang Yihua.

Upon seeing the letter, he immediately handed it to the hospital director, the indignant look on his face yet to fade. "Director, just look at this. I don’t get it. Chi Yun’er is such a wonderful person. She managed to return to the city herself, yet she’s still thinking of ways to give other educated youths the same chance so they don’t have to waste away their best years in the countryside."

"Three hundred positions! Here in the Capital City, who else could create that many jobs besides a new factory? And on top of that, neither the state nor our hospital has to pay a single cent of the employees’ salaries."

"Her abilities are plain to see. It’s only been three months, from June until now, and she’s constantly brought us pleasant surprises. When has she ever made a single critical mistake?"

"And all those things we were skeptical about—haven’t they all succeeded after being put to the test?"

"Do we really need some young educated youth, who only got his job by riding on someone else’s coattails and has no real skills besides book smarts, to be scheming and pointing fingers here?"

"Does he really think he can climb the ladder if Chi Yun’er is taken down?"

The director looked down at the letter.

The handwriting was clumsy, as if written by someone who hadn’t held a pen in a long time, meticulously forming each stroke. If the director wasn’t mistaken, the author had deliberately used their left hand to disguise their penmanship.

’A person who could write with both hands, and whose non-dominant hand was still more legible than most people’s writing, certainly had reason to be conceited.’

Between the lines, the writer criticized Chi Yun’er, suggesting her significant past contributions had made her too radical. He argued that even though the tumultuous years were behind them, who could predict what tomorrow might hold?

The letter went on to say that since the shops were already open, they should be allowed to stay open. However, they needed to adopt a more low-key and cautious approach in the future to prevent other departments from growing jealous and filing complaints.

Reading this, the director couldn’t help but chuckle.

’This person is just judging noble people by their own petty standards.’

’The Capital City is already starting to brim with new life, and everything is moving in a positive direction. Reporting someone just because their business is successful—now *that* would be what truly attracts unwanted attention.’

’If peer departments get jealous, they’ll just copy her model and open their own shops to increase their revenue.’

In truth, the director understood that this person was simply trying to use his so-called "big-picture perspective" to persuade the hospital’s leadership.

’Perhaps, in this young man’s eyes, the older generation was inherently conservative and stuck in their ways. He probably thought that the more responsibility someone had, the less they’d dare to take risks.’

’Too bad for him. He and the other leaders had been gradually won over by Chi Yun’er. They had started out treating her ideas as a last-ditch effort, but through them, they had seen real hope and change.’

"You all should take a look at this," the director said, passing the letter to the others after he finished reading it.

They crowded together to read it. The further down the page they got, the more their expressions soured, matching the ugly look on the assistant Ling Kangtai’s face.

"My Yunyun is just like Mr. Dongguo! She saves a wolf, and instead of thanks, she’s expected to feed its greedy belly!" Mr. Chi was seething, grinding his teeth. "I don’t know who did this, but if I find out... heh, I’ll send them packing right back where they came from."

"I’ll show him what abusing public power for personal gain *really* looks like!"

The others all nodded in agreement. They had all watched Chi Yun’er grow up. She’d been bright and bubbly since she was a little girl, like a ray of sunshine in their residential compound. On top of that, she was beautiful and universally loved.

She was practically a daughter to all of them. To see their own girl get torn down and made out to be worthless by someone else was absolutely infuriating!

"Investigate! We must investigate! Let’s not even mention that Chi Yun’er is one of our own. Even if this happened to a complete stranger who had contributed so much to the hospital, for them to be maliciously smeared like this is enough to chill anyone’s heart!"

Everyone voiced their agreement.

Still seething, they turned their attention to the reports from the four new streets, their hearts a jumble of joy, heartache, and rage.

After buying clothes, customers would pass through the south gate, pick up some fresh fruit, pastries, and nutritional supplements, then head to Shengshi Street for a meal before going home, their arms laden with bags.

On the very first day—a Monday, typically the slowest day of the business week—sales on the four streets were still booming. There was a constant stream of people from just after six in the morning until eight at night!

The shops had closed for the day, but the employees, buzzing with excitement, grabbed their account ledgers and headed together toward the hospital’s main conference room.

The shops in those days had no security cameras, so to avoid any trouble, Chi Yun’er had instituted a system where each store would write up a ticket for the items. Customers then had to take the ticket to a central payment counter to pay before they could collect their goods.
