"Xi"

Again, it’s Xi.

Zhou Chengchen instinctively looked at Xi Siyan, and sure enough, saw a hint of an unusual expression on Xi Siyan’s face.

But Xi Siyan still answered the call without any hesitation in front of Zhou Chengchen.

"Hello?"

Zhou Chengchen heard some of the voice on the phone, but couldn’t make out what exactly was said. He could only hear Xi Siyan’s extremely brief replies: refusal, refusal, and more refusal.

Soon, the call was disconnected. Zhou Chengchen was too lazy to ask this time, yet the next second, the phone rang again.

This time the call displayed only a string of numbers, evidently an unsaved number on Xi Siyan’s phone.

Zhou Chengchen didn’t take it seriously, but he noticed a heavier expression on Xi Siyan’s face.

Having just received a call from his supposed father, Xi Siyan had frowned slightly, seeming somewhat displeased. But now, Zhou Chengchen clearly saw sarcasm in his eyes, and even a hint of anger.

This made Zhou Chengchen’s heart skip a beat; such expressions rarely appeared on Xi Siyan’s face. He had always been calm and composed.

The things that could provoke him to show signs of anger were indeed very rare.

What surprised Zhou Chengchen more was that this time Xi Siyan didn’t answer and directly hung up the call.

Soon, the phone rang again and was hung up again.

It rang again and was hung up again.

After three consecutive times, the other end finally stopped.

Zhou Chengchen blinked and cautiously asked, "Do you know this number?"

"Yes."

"Who is it?"

Xi Siyan didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he looked up at Zhou Chengchen, with the sarcasm and anger gone from his eyes, now appearing very tired.

At this moment, he resembled a wounded leopard, wanting to find a cave to rest.

Zhou Chengchen’s heart tightened instantly. Almost instinctively, she reached out and hugged Xi Siyan’s head, allowing him to lean on her shoulder.

Then she heard Xi Siyan’s deep and weary voice, "Zhang Yi."

Zhou Chengchen didn’t react immediately to who it was. The name circled in her mind twice before she suddenly realized.

It’s Xi Siyan’s mother.

Why is she looking for Xi Siyan? And why is Xi Siyan not answering her calls?

As for the mother-son relationship between Xi Siyan and Zhang Yi, Zhou Chengchen knew that as a mother, she was not qualified but wasn’t to the extent of completely neglecting her biological son.

Xi Siyan had said before that he could understand Zhang Yi’s difficulties; she merely chose her own life.

Choosing her own life over her son.

Many might hate such a mother because of this, but Zhou Chengchen believed Xi Siyan wasn’t that irrational. His relationship with Zhang Yi couldn’t possibly be good, but it shouldn’t be resentful either.

But why just now?

Was it because of Zhang Yi’s involvement in Xi Siyan’s bone marrow donation years ago?

Zhou Chengchen couldn’t figure it out, but she didn’t ask further.

No matter the reason, it’s not important; what’s important is that the seemingly omnipotent strong boy is now beside her, licking his wounds.

Zhou Chengchen stayed with Xi Siyan for a while until someone knocked on the door, and they separated, with Xi Siyan returning to his usual demeanor as if nothing had happened.

"Si Yan, we need to leave."

The visitor said, and Xi Siyan nodded. He then turned to Zhou Chengchen and explained briefly what they had to do before he rose and walked out.
