When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase

Chapter 1332: You Can’t Wake Someone Pretending to Sleep

  • Next Chapter

Zhou Chengchen was stuck there, not knowing what to say, when Guo Yue’s voice, tinged with a hint of sorrow and helplessness, floated over again: "I really envy you two."

"Uh..."

"I remember back in school, once all of us who’d been recommended for admission gathered for a dinner. He drank a little too much, and got really talkative. The whole way he kept muttering, my Cheng Chen likes this, doesn’t like that... That was the first time I’d ever seen Si Yan like that."

Zhou Chengchen froze when she heard that—my Cheng Chen? Those were words Si Yan would say?

If it had been someone else, Zhou Chengchen might have suspected they were teasing her, but Guo Yue... Although she wasn’t familiar with Guo Yue, Zhou Chengchen instinctively felt Guo Yue wasn’t the type to joke about this sort of thing.

And when she’d just said it, there had been a smile at the corner of her lips, clearly recalling something funny.

Maybe Si Yan really had looked ridiculous at the time.

"Miss Zhou, am I really that ugly?"

"Huh?"

Zhou Chengchen realized she was having trouble keeping up with the rhythm of this gifted woman in front of her; the topic had shifted way too fast.

But Zhou Chengchen still followed her lead and smiled. "No, no, you’re fine."

"I know I’m not like you, a great beauty, but I shouldn’t count as ugly either, right? Or does he just not like someone like me? But what kind of woman does he like, exactly? I can change."

Rather than chatting with Zhou Chengchen, Guo Yue’s words were more like muttering to herself, quietly nursing her own sadness.

Suddenly Zhou Chengchen felt a sharp surge of sympathy for her. She remembered the day Liu Xiaoyu was beaten up—it was this slender figure in front of her who’d stormed up to Xiao Rou, all fired up, saying she wouldn’t let the culprit off.

She didn’t know if Guo Yue had actually done anything afterwards, but just from that moment, Zhou Chengchen could tell Guo Yue really cared about Liu Xiaoyu.

Si Yan had told her that Guo Yue was a very rational person, yet it was precisely this rational girl who kept doing stupid things—and had even mistaken her for something, apparently.

The sympathy in Zhou Chengchen’s heart grew stronger, and her brain cells started running wild. Guo Yue liked Liu Xiaoyu, but Liu Xiaoyu apparently didn’t like her back.

Zhou Chengchen knew the reason Liu Xiaoyu had given for rejecting Guo Yue. In the past she might have taken it seriously, but now, she knew it was nothing more than an excuse he’d come up with.

For the sake of his career, he couldn’t date—what, is he going off to conquer kingdoms or something? If everyone waits until they’re successful in their careers before dating and getting married, what will this society turn into?

Either everyone rushes into flash marriages, or everyone marries late, with men all becoming fathers at forty? A few cases are fine, but if everyone does that, won’t it mess up the population growth curve?

Looking at Guo Yue, Zhou Chengchen really wanted to sigh and say, "Girl, don’t try to wake someone who’s only pretending to be asleep."

She was still debating whether she should say something, when the office door over there opened and Guo Yue shot to her feet.

The three people inside walked out. When Liu Xiaoyu saw that Guo Yue was still there, a flicker of discomfort flashed in his eyes.

Zhou Chengchen didn’t know whether Guo Yue noticed, but she certainly did.

They were leaving; maybe this was exactly what Guo Yue had been waiting for. Even if Liu Xiaoyu didn’t like her, given his usual politeness, Zhou Chengchen didn’t think he’d just let a girl like Guo Yue go home alone so late at night. If she ran into danger, that would be bad.
