Chapter 50: Chapter 50: She Doesn’t Want the Scum Ex-Husband 10

The Golden Egg in Feng Cangwu’s hands suddenly began to stir when it sensed that wisp of Demonic Qi. While everyone was still bewildered, the Golden Egg abruptly cracked open.

A dazzling golden light burst forth from the crack, instantly illuminating the entire area.

Accompanied by a crisp shattering sound, a small but incomparably magnificent Golden Phoenix hatched from the egg.

The moment Feng Fan Yin hatched, she flapped her fledgling yet powerful wings and charged straight toward Ji Huadan.

Before Ji Huadan could even react, Feng Fan Yin pecked her viciously several times, making her scream in pain.

"AHH! Help me! What is going on?"

Ji Huadan was terrified, scrambling to get away, but she couldn’t escape Feng Fan Yin’s attacks.

Feng Fan Yin pursued her, pecking away while letting out sharp cries, as if venting her fury.

Everyone was stunned by the sudden turn of events, and for a moment, no one stepped forward to intervene.

It wasn’t until Ji Xiaosong cried out, "Fan Yin, stop!"

Only then did Feng Fan Yin reluctantly fly back to Ji Xiaosong’s side. She landed on her shoulder, still glaring angrily at Ji Huadan.

Ji Huadan was a complete mess. Her hair was disheveled, and her clothes were torn in several places from the pecking.

"Cousin, what is the meaning of this? She could have hatched at any time, but she just had to do it the moment she was next to me, and then she starts desperately pecking me! If you don’t give me an explanation today, I won’t let this go!"

"An explanation? What kind of explanation do you want? I trust my daughter. She wouldn’t hatch for no reason and then go out of her way to peck you."

Although Ji Xiaosong didn’t know why Feng Fan Yin had done it, she believed that if her daughter acted, she must have had her reasons.

She was supposed to hatch a month from now. Hatching early meant she couldn’t speak yet.

Being unable to defend herself certainly put her in a difficult position.

But it didn’t matter. As a mother, even if it meant being biased, Ji Xiaosong would always stand by her daughter.

Feng Cangwu said nothing, but he silently moved to stand in front of Ji Xiaosong.

At this point, Xu Yang also stepped forward. He hadn’t reacted in time when Ji Huadan was being pecked, and by the time he came to his senses, Ji Xiaosong had already called the Golden Phoenix back.

Just now, he had actually seen it quite clearly. As Feng Cangwu passed by Ji Huadan while holding the Golden Egg, a wisp of Demonic Qi had seeped out from her sleeve.

The wisp of Demonic Qi was extremely faint. If he hadn’t been keeping a close eye on Ji Huadan, fearing she might cause trouble today, he would have never noticed it.

To prevent the situation from escalating, and fearing the Xu Family would be implicated if Ji Huadan truly had ties to the Demon Clan, Xu Yang stepped forward, cupped his hands, and said:

"Eldest Princess, Huadan has just given birth, so it’s natural for her emotions to be somewhat volatile. The Golden Phoenix is but a hatchling; perhaps it was startled by the lively scene right after breaking from its shell. Huadan just happened to be standing nearby and was caught in the crossfire, so to speak. Under these circumstances today..."

Before Xu Yang could finish, Ji Huadan slapped him across the face.

"You useless piece of trash! Why didn’t you step up when I was being pecked just now? What are you doing now, playing the good guy?"

Everyone present was stunned for a moment to see the usually high-and-mighty Elder Xu treated this way by the Second Princess.

Xu Yang’s head snapped to the side from the blow. His body went rigid for a moment before he slowly turned back, his eyes filled with restraint.

He clenched his jaw so tightly that his muscles bulged, and the veins on his neck stood out.

However, he took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing his rage for the sake of the bigger picture. He reached out, grabbed Ji Huadan’s arm tightly, and said in a low voice, "Stop making a scene. Come with me!"

"Let go of me! You useless thing!" Ji Huadan struggled fiercely, still cursing and swearing.

"My apologies, everyone. Huadan just gave birth and is unwell. I’ll take her home now."

Heedless of her protests, Xu Yang tightened his grip and practically dragged Ji Huadan from the scene.

The crowd watched their retreating figures, whispering among themselves.

This little episode didn’t have much of an impact on the celebratory banquet held for Feng Fan Yin. After all, a couple’s squabble was just gossip, but the birth of a Golden Phoenix to the Phoenix Clan was the hope of the entire clan.

Feng Cangwu plucked Feng Fan Yin from Ji Xiaosong’s shoulder. "Fan Yin... Feng Fan Yin..."

He repeated the name several times. "This name Song chose is excellent."

He had actually thought of many names before, but he could never decide which one was best.

It wasn’t until today, when Ji Xiaosong suddenly called out this backup name and his daughter responded, that he finally settled on it.

Hearing her name, Feng Fan Yin, who had been struggling in Feng Cangwu’s hands, finally grew quiet.

"Song, you see? She really does like this name."

"Yes, it seems this name was destined for her."

The lively and warm atmosphere in Phoenix Splendor Hall had nothing to do with the Xu Family.

「At the Xu Family residence, however, the scene was entirely different.」

The moment they returned, Xu Yang dragged Ji Huadan into his study.

"You worthless trash, what do you think you’re doing?"

Ji Huadan’s eyes were wide with fury as she violently threw off Xu Yang’s hand.

"What was that wisp of Demonic Qi all about today?" Xu Yang’s face was grim. He no longer cared about settling the score for the public slap; that wisp of Demonic Qi was far more important.

Ji Huadan’s eyes darted away. "I don’t know what you’re talking about. What Demonic Qi?"

"Don’t play dumb. I saw it with my own eyes, seeping from your sleeve. Are you colluding with the Demon Clan?"

"Nonsense! Don’t you dare accuse me!"

"Ji Huadan, you’d better tell the truth. If the Phoenix Clan finds out, the entire Xu Family will be ruined along with you!"

"I don’t know anything about any Demon Clan. It’s common knowledge that my parents died resisting the Demon Clan, so how could I possibly have any connection to them?"

"I saw it clearly in Phoenix Splendor Hall, there’s no mistake! It’s true your parents died because of the Demon Clan, but you were right there with them at the time. Why didn’t the Demon Clan lay a hand on you?"

"How should I know why they didn’t attack me? Maybe they saw I was just a child and didn’t consider me a threat, so they let me go."

As the two reached a stalemate, a palace servant suddenly arrived to report from outside the door.

"Elder Xu, the Queen Phoenix has sent over all of my lady’s former palace servants from her own palace. The old madam says that everything is to be decided by my lady, and she will not interfere."

Ji Huadan finally breathed a sigh of relief and said impatiently, "Alright, I’m going to go arrange for those palace servants now."

Xu Yang’s suspicions were not dispelled. Ji Huadan’s expression just now had clearly been evasive.

’The Demon Clan has been harassing the Phoenix Clan for years. Back then, in their quest for peace, the Phoenix Clan engaged the Demon Clan in a desperate battle.

In the aftermath of that conflict, it took the Phoenix Clan over a thousand years to even begin to recover.

If a princess of the Royal Family truly has ties to the Demon Clan, could I perhaps seize this opportunity to advance myself?

The Phoenix Clan’s Golden Phoenix is still young. The Royal Family only has one princess, Ji Xiaosong. And though her husband’s identity is unknown, I’ve never seen him make a move. He’s probably not that powerful.

If I can get a hold of this leverage, it might not be impossible to pull the Royal Family from their high horse and take their place.

After all, the son born to my wife also has royal blood, so I wouldn’t suffer heavenly retribution.’

At this thought, a flash of greed and ambition glinted in Xu Yang’s eyes.
