When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal
Chapter 49: She’s Done with the Scum Ex-Husband 9
Chapter 49: Chapter 49: She’s Done with the Scum Ex-Husband 9
The Queen Phoenix had actually wanted to do this for a while. There was clearly something strange about Ji Huadan’s hall.
But the Phoenix King wouldn’t let her interfere, and she had no reason to cause a scene.
Today provided the perfect excuse. She could send over all the palace servants under the pretext that Ji Huadan needed help with the birth. If there really was a problem, she would surely find out soon.
"You handle the arrangements."
The Phoenix King said no more. His mind and heart were completely filled with thoughts of Ji Xiaosong’s child.
’A Golden Phoenix!’
With this Golden Phoenix, the future of the Phoenix Clan was bound to be immeasurable.
The only two Golden Phoenixes in the entire clan both belonged to the Ji family. The very thought made the Phoenix King feel like he was walking on air.
「Meanwhile.」
In Xu Yang’s palace, Ji Huadan slowly regained consciousness.
As her vision slowly came into focus, she weakly asked the palace servant beside her.
"Where is my child? What is its aptitude?"
The palace servant stood to the side, not daring to breathe too loudly.
"My... my... my lady, you... you... you gave birth to a Yellow Phoenix."
"What did you say? Say that again!"
Ji Huadan’s eyes widened. She stared at the palace servant in disbelief, her voice turning shrill.
The palace servant trembled with fear and quickly repeated, "My lady, you gave birth to a Yellow Phoenix."
The expression on Ji Huadan’s face froze, then contorted. She shot up in bed and screamed hysterically, "Impossible! That’s absolutely impossible! How could it be a Yellow Phoenix? There must be a mistake somewhere!"
She flailed her arms wildly, yanking the bedding onto the floor.
The palace servant hastily knelt, terrified of what other crazy things she might do.
Just then, Xu Yang walked in.
"What is this madness?" Xu Yang frowned, his face a mask of displeasure and annoyance.
But Ji Huadan seemed not to hear him, continuing her hysterical shrieking. "I don’t believe it! How could I possibly give birth to a Yellow Phoenix! Someone must have set me up!"
"Enough! Look at the state you’re in!" Xu Yang roared.
Ji Huadan whipped her head around and screamed at Xu Yang, "This is all your fault! You useless man!"
She was an Orange Phoenix. How could the union of an Orange Phoenix and a Red Phoenix possibly produce a Yellow Phoenix?
’The only possibility is that something is wrong with Xu Yang.’
Xu Yang’s face turned ashen with anger. He ground out through his teeth, "You still don’t know when to quit! Let me tell you, Eldest Princess Ji Xiaosong has also given birth. And there was a celestial phenomenon. We just don’t know what rank the child is yet."
Hearing this, Ji Huadan froze for a moment, then began to scream even more frantically. "No! No! How could she..."
’Yes, how could she?’
Xu Yang felt even more dejected than Ji Huadan.
In his past life, Ji Xiaosong had formed a Contract with him, and they had a Yellow Phoenix.
But in this life, he had switched to Ji Huadan, who should have been able to produce a higher-ranked child. He never expected the result to be the same as with Ji Xiaosong in his past life—another Yellow Phoenix.
Ji Xiaosong changed her Contract partner and ended up producing an egg that caused a celestial phenomenon.
What did that mean?
Xu Yang didn’t dare to think about it, nor did he want to.
"Get yourself together. Tomorrow, the Phoenix King and Queen Phoenix will publicly announce the rank of the Eldest Princess’s child. As her cousin, you are expected to attend."
"I’m not going!"
Ji Huadan collapsed to the floor, sobbing her heart out.
"Why should I? I gave birth to a Yellow Phoenix, and now I have to go congratulate that slut?"
A thought seemed to strike her, and her emotions suddenly calmed. She sneered, "What, you regret not choosing her back then? Is that why you’re making a special trip to see her now?"
"I think you’ve lost your mind!"
Xu Yang shot Ji Huadan a harsh glare, then stormed out with a flick of his sleeves.
Ji Huadan watched Xu Yang’s departing figure, her gaze turning sinister.
She turned to the kneeling palace servant, and with a casual wave of her hand, the servant’s body was instantly covered in blood. Their life faded away before they even had time to scream.
"Useless, all of you are useless! Someone, go and fetch my dear mother-in-law."
Ji Huadan was seething, her shrill voice echoing through the room.
The palace servants waiting in the outer chamber all shuddered at the sound of her roar.
They didn’t know what had just happened, but when they cautiously entered the room, the faint, lingering smell of blood made them suspect that something terrible had occurred.
"Yes, my lady," one palace servant quickly replied, cold sweat unconsciously beading on his forehead.
Ji Huadan panted heavily, her eyes filled with fury and resentment. She ground out, "I’d like to see how she explains all this!"
Not daring to breathe, the palace servants hurried out to fetch Xu Yang’s mother.
A short while later, Mother Xu was brought into the room.
Before Mother Xu could even speak, Ji Huadan glared at her and demanded, "Xu Yang is useless, and you did a fine job hiding it!"
Mother Xu’s heart leaped into her throat. A flash of panic crossed her eyes, but she quickly composed herself, her face feigning confusion. "My dear daughter-in-law, what you’re saying confuses me. Yang’er is perfectly fine. What problem could there be? Perhaps you’re just feeling unsettled after giving birth?"
Ji Huadan snorted, her gaze fixed on Mother Xu. She sneered, "Stop pretending. You think I don’t know your secret? There’s something wrong with Xu Yang’s bloodline. Otherwise, how could I have possibly given birth to a Yellow Phoenix?"
"Daughter-in-law, what are you saying? Yang’er’s bloodline is pure; how could there be anything wrong with it? Perhaps you are merely exhausted and your thoughts are in disarray."
Ji Huadan stood up and advanced on Mother Xu, step by step. "Still trying to argue?" she snarled. "How could our union produce a Yellow Phoenix? There’s definitely something fishy going on. Don’t think you can pull the wool over my eyes!"
Under this intense pressure, Mother Xu swallowed involuntarily. But years of practice had taught her to keep a poker face. She said calmly, "My dear daughter-in-law, the kind of child one bears is a matter of fate. You had a Yellow Phoenix this time; perhaps you’ll have a Red Phoenix next time. The fortunes of this world are never constant, wouldn’t you agree?"
Ji Huadan laughed in fury. "Fine. Still trying to shift the blame. I will get to the bottom of this. If I find out you’re behind this, I’ll make you pay!"
"Daughter-in-law, don’t be rash. One needs evidence for everything; you can’t just go around falsely accusing good people. You are a wife of the Xu Family now. You should know who your real family is."
Mother Xu saw that Ji Huadan was all aggressive words but had no evidence. She realized that today’s incident was just another one of her fits.
It wasn’t the first time she’d had an outburst in the past six months, so Mother Xu didn’t take this one too seriously.
"Get out! Get the hell out! I don’t want to see you again!"
Mother Xu’s face paled. Realizing this was not the time to provoke Ji Huadan further, she quickly bowed her head and said, "Yes, yes. Daughter-in-law, please get some rest. Don’t let your anger harm your body." With that, she hurried out.
「Meanwhile」
In the palace of the Phoenix King and Queen Phoenix, everyone was busy preparing for the next day’s announcement of Ji Xiaosong’s child’s rank.
The Phoenix King was joyfully discussing future arrangements with the Queen Phoenix, completely unaware of the drama unfolding on Ji Huadan’s side.
The Queen Phoenix had just given the order for the palace servants she had sent to Ji Huadan to prepare to leave the palace and head to the Xu Family estate.
「The next day」
The area in front of Phoenix Splendor Hall was bustling with excitement. Everyone was eagerly awaiting the announcement of the rank of Ji Xiaosong’s child.
Xu Yang and Ji Huadan were also in attendance. Although Ji Huadan could have refused on the grounds that she had just given birth and needed to recuperate, she couldn’t let it go.
She had to see with her own eyes just what kind of thing Ji Xiaosong had given birth to!
’Why did I have to give birth to a lowly Yellow Phoenix, while Ji Xiaosong gets a Golden Phoenix?’
She wouldn’t rest until she saw the Golden Phoenix for herself!
"Everyone."
The Phoenix King stood on a high platform before the hall, his face beaming and his voice resonant. "Today is a day of great celebration for our Phoenix Clan! I am here to announce the rank of the son born to Eldest Princess Ji Xiaosong!"
The crowd below held their breath, their eyes fixed on the Phoenix King.
The Phoenix King paused, then declared in a booming voice, "The Eldest Princess’s son is a top-tier Golden Phoenix, whose birth was heralded by a celestial phenomenon! This is a blessing for our Phoenix Clan! The heavens favor our people!"
As soon as he spoke, an uproar swept through the crowd, followed by cheers that echoed to the heavens.
Standing in the crowd, Ji Huadan’s face was terrifyingly dark. She clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms.
Jealousy and resentment surged through her like a tidal wave, but under the watchful eyes of the crowd, she didn’t dare act out.
At that moment, surrounded by the crowd, Ji Xiaosong and Feng Cangwu approached, with Feng Cangwu carefully carrying the Golden Phoenix egg.
Everyone fell to their knees, crying out, "May the Phoenix Clan prosper!"
As Feng Cangwu walked past Ji Huadan, her sleeve suddenly stirred.
A wisp of black Demonic Qi emerged from it.
