Chapter 163: Chapter 160: Cute Fox Girl x Cold-faced Wolf King 10

Ji Yang was the first to wake. Upon seeing Ji Xiaosong, she was so overcome with emotion that tears streamed down her face.

"Song, you’re alive! This is wonderful! You weren’t eaten by the Wolf King."

Hearing her words, Ji Xiaosong gave an awkward smile.

"Why would he eat me? Lang Xuan isn’t the kind of wolf who enjoys eating his food live."

"That’s right, that’s right. You mustn’t misunderstand me. Now that Song is carrying my child, the Wolf and Fox Clans can be considered united by marriage."

Feng Cangwu hurriedly explained. Although he had let the natural disaster in the Fox Clan’s territory run its course, he had never genuinely wanted them to perish.

They were Ji Xiaosong’s people, after all. If he angered her, she would be difficult to appease later on.

Now that the Fox Clan was out of danger, he felt he had to compensate them in some way.

"You’re... the Wolf King?"

Ji Yang stared at Feng Cangwu, finding it hard to believe. This wolf before her, who was pampering Ji Xiaosong in every conceivable way, looked both doting and worried—nothing at all like the cold, ruthless figure of legend.

"Of course."

Feng Cangwu nodded. "Your Fox Clan has suffered greatly from this natural disaster, so the Wolf Clan has decided to offer you some help."

Hearing Feng Cangwu’s words, Ji Yang glanced at the Fox Clan’s territory, which had been restored to a state several times better than before, and her lips twitched.

’Back when Ji Xiaosong said she was going to the Wolf Clan to win a chance of survival for our people, I thought she was throwing her life away. I never imagined she’d actually manage to conquer the Wolf King himself.’

"Song, I never would have guessed... I have to hand it to you, you’re incredible!"

One look at Ji Yang’s eyes and Ji Xiaosong knew what she meant by "incredible." She quickly pulled Ji Yang aside.

"I’m married to Lang Xuan now, so the position of the Fox Clan’s High Priest... it has to be you."

"What? You’re not going to be the High Priest anymore? No way, I can’t do it! I don’t even know how to absorb the most basic Spiritual Power."

Ji Yang waved her hands in refusal.

In the Beast World, the title of High Priest was a gift from the Beast God. They were not only responsible for performing rituals and healing their people, but also for their own cultivation.

"Don’t worry, I’ll help you. You’re my older sister, so our family’s bloodline will be passed on to you."

After much persuasion from Ji Xiaosong, Ji Yang finally agreed.

In this life, Ji Xiaosong didn’t plan on doing anything too drastic in the Beast World. Feng Cangwu’s identity in this world was the Beast God. As his wife, she could achieve anything she desired.

’There’s no sense of accomplishment in that, and it would just take opportunities away from the people of this world.’

’It’s better to leave the important positions to them and give the other clans a chance to develop as well.’

After Ji Yang agreed to become the High Priest, Ji Xiaosong told Feng Cangwu about it that very evening.

"Cangwu, I am your wife now, and I’ll always be by your side, so it wouldn’t be right for me to return to the Fox Clan to be the High Priest. What do you think about letting my sister, Ji Yang, take on this responsibility?"

Feng Cangwu gently took Ji Xiaosong’s hand and looked at her tenderly, his eyes full of adoration. "Song, I’ll support any decision you make. Ji Yang is your sister. I have complete confidence in her becoming the High Priest of the Fox Clan."

As he spoke, he raised his hand and gently stroked Ji Xiaosong’s hair, his movements as delicate as if he were handling a priceless treasure.

That night, Feng Cangwu quietly used his Divine Power, concealing his own aura and leaving only the awe-inspiring pressure of the Beast God.

His figure flickered in the darkness, emitting waves of mysterious and powerful Spiritual Power, as if an ancient deity had descended.

At his summons, the spiritual seals passed down through generations of Fox Clan High Priests slowly materialized.

Feng Cangwu carefully guided these spiritual seals into Ji Yang’s dreamscape.

At that moment, Ji Yang, deep in sleep, suddenly found herself in a mystical space. Brilliant lights shone all around her as countless strange runes swirled and danced through the air.

Her eyes widened in terror. She wanted to scream but found she couldn’t make a sound.

Just then, a majestic and solemn voice echoed in her mind, a voice that seemed to transcend the boundaries of time and space:

"Ji Yang, you are of the Fox Clan’s bloodline. Today, I have come in person to bestow upon you the legacy of the High Priest. You shall shoulder the great responsibility of protecting the Fox Clan."

Before Ji Yang could react, the runes surged into her body like a tide.

She felt a powerful force surging within her as once-unfamiliar knowledge of Spiritual Power and ritual techniques flooded her mind, granting her instant, profound understanding.

She curled up on the ground in pain, her clothes soaked with cold sweat. As the transference of the legacy progressed, however, her expression gradually became resolute, her heart filled with reverence for the Beast God’s gift.

The next morning, Ji Yang woke with a start. She discovered that her body had undergone an earth-shattering change.

She gently raised her hand and could feel the powerful Spiritual Power surging within her.

Ji Yang remembered the mysterious dream from the previous night, her heart a mix of shock and unease.

She bowed deeply toward the sky, her voice trembling slightly. "Thank you, Beast God, for bestowing this legacy. I, Ji Yang, will not fail you, and I will protect the Fox Clan."

With the Fox Clan’s affairs settled, Ji Xiaosong began a life of eating, sleeping, and then eating some more.

To ensure she had a comfortable pregnancy, the Fox Queen made a special trip to the Wolf Clan to stay with Ji Xiaosong for a year.

Thankfully, the Fox Queen was Ji Xiaosong’s mother in this life, so there was no awkwardness between them.

The only problem was that watching Ji Xiaosong laze around like a salted fish every day was driving the Fox Queen mad.

As soon as the sun rose each day, Ji Xiaosong would lie down on the large stone slab next to the Wolf Clan’s sacrificial altar and go to sleep.

If her back got too hot from the sun, she would flip over to sun her belly.

"Xiaosong! Would you get up already!"

The Fox Queen snatched away the lotus leaf covering her daughter’s face. The brilliant golden sunlight stabbed at Ji Xiaosong, making her curl into a furry ball.

Her nine white tails swept back and forth across the stone slab, managing to sweep the pregnancy-securing herbs the Fox Queen had just picked right off the cliff.

Furious, the Fox Queen grabbed her by the tip of her ear. "All you do is lie around sunning your belly all day. What about your Spiritual Power? What about divination? Have you memorized the Blood Stopping Spell I taught you the day before yesterday?"

"Mother..."

Ji Xiaosong whined, rolling over. The downy fur on her belly shimmered like honey in the sunlight. "Lang Xuan said my pregnancy is unstable and I need to rest. Using Spiritual Power will hurt the cubs."

"Do you take me for a senile old fool?"

An Ice Lotus bloomed at the Fox Queen’s fingertips, and she pressed the refreshingly cool flower against her daughter’s round belly. "Who was it that snuck out to the back mountain last night and roasted three pheasants with Fox Fire?"

The tip of Ji Xiaosong’s tail stiffened. She gave a sheepish laugh and pawed at her mother’s skirt, which was embroidered with stars and moons. "Well, that’s because... I suddenly had a craving for something crispy. Smell! I made sure to wash my paws with morning dew today. There’s absolutely no greasy smell left!"

Watching her daughter’s playful antics, the Fox Queen’s eyes suddenly welled up.

She crouched down and pressed her warm cheek against her daughter’s belly, her voice muffled. "Do you think I don’t want you to live a comfortable life? But the Wolf King is, after all, a much more powerful being. If one day... if he grows tired of you..."

"Then I’ll just take the cubs and win him back."

Ji Xiaosong shifted into her human form and hugged her mother, a few strands of fox fur still stuck in her hair. "Look, Lang Xuan even holds me while he’s handling clan affairs. The day before yesterday, during the Eagle Clan’s rebellion, he held me with one arm and called down heavenly lightning with the other. So impressive!"

"Nonsense!"

The Fox Queen poked her between the brows, trembling. "You’re pregnant, yet you dare go to a battlefield and smell the stench of blood? Do you have any idea that last night while you were asleep, the baby’s heart was beating faster than a mountain finch’s?"

The ancient tree behind the stone slab suddenly rustled, and Feng Cangwu emerged carrying a crystal bowl. A fine nectar with chips of ice floated within it. "You are right to scold her, Mother-in-law. Last night was indeed my oversight."

He scooped a spoonful of the nectar and fed it to the little fox’s lips. His gaze lowered, his long lashes casting a faint shadow on his cheeks. "It’s just... when Song isn’t right in front of me, I’m always afraid..."

Ji Xiaosong took the opportunity to snatch the jade spoon with her mouth and winked triumphantly at her mother. "See? See? It’s not me who’s being coddled."

Watching her son-in-law get so easily placated, the Fox Queen rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on.
