Chapter 267: Clearing The Way To The Town

I lead the way towards the entrance of the town, cracking my neck in preparation for the inevitable fight ahead.

My Guardians flanked my sides, all of them prepared to face down the horde of Anomalies that we would inevitably face.

At first, Olivia had been against the idea of us facing the entire town’s worth of Anomalies by ourselves.

Actually... She’s more against the fact that I was here without support and on the front lines because she would rather I just stand at the back and let them fight the Anomalies by themselves while I just provided support.

But well... I managed to convince her that I wanted to let loose as well so she reluctantly agreed.

The Anomalies that were standing on the road leading into the town turned and saw us, which was interesting as both mixes of the hybrids were standing together.

I would feel weird looking at a wolf with a monkey’s body and a monkey with a wolf’s body but... I’ve seen weirder things at this point so I just took it in stride.

The Anomalies let out a roar and that roar echoed through the town when the other Anomalies also joined in the chorus, just like what happened back inside the city before we were swarmed.

Once they had called the rest of the horde, the Anomalies at the front started charging towards us, the smaller wolf monkey hybrids leading the charge as they sprinted towards us on all fours.

Olivia took the first move as she took a step forward to lower herself into a stance, her right fist encased with electricity that was bathing her in an electric blue glow.

She let out a yell before punching forward, shooting a giant stream of lightning that enveloped half the width of the road and completely disintegrating the Anomalies that had been unfortunate enough to be in the lightning’s path.

The rest of the Anomalies don’t seem too bothered by the sudden deaths of their comrades and continue to charge towards us while screeching and growling like the animals that they mutated from.

Liliac was next as she stepped forward and threw out her hands in front of her, her power surging forward.

At first, it looked like nothing happened as the Anomalies continued their rush towards us, unbothered by the lightning blast from earlier.

That charged when the floor rumbled and vines burst out from the ground, breaking through the asphalt of the road to wrap themselves around the Anomalies that had been unfortunate enough to be near them.

The immobilised Anomalies let out roars of rage as they found themselves completely restrained though that did not stop them from trying to break free as they strained against the vines to snap them.

However, we only needed them to be restrained for that moment since Maylene took the next step and tossed a stone in their direction.

The stone then rapidly expanded in size until it was a giant boulder the size of a small building and it rolled into them, crushing the restrained Anomalies under its weight.

The boulder continued rolling for a good distance before it suddenly shattered with an earth shaking boom, the entire rock exploding into pieces and throwing up a small cloud of dust.

As the dust cloud settled, it revealed one of the big monkey wolf Anomalies was standing there with its fist punched out in front of it, clearly being the reason why the rock had shattered.

It let out a roar of challenge and leapt off the ground, jumping high up into the air and clearing the distance between us in a single leap.

It pulled back its fist, clearly intent on smashing it down on top of us.

All of us took one step back aside from Dan who had a fearless grin on his face as he moved himself directly at the point of impact of the Anomaly’s fall, his shield already raised and prepared to intercept.

The Anomaly came crashing down on top of Dan, its fist smashing into his shield and shaking the ground violently from the impact.

Dan’s knees bent slightly to absorb the impact and spiderweb cracks formed on the ground at his feet from the weight of the impact.

Dan smirked at the Anomaly, as though taunting it to show that it was not strong enough to break past his guard.

The Anomaly growled and snapped its jaws at him, pushing its fist harder against the shield in an attempt to break past his guard.

It was so focused on Dan that it didn’t even notice my floating arm shooting towards him in the shape of a gauntleted fist, smashing against its side and sending it flying away.

We watched as the Anomaly crashed into the ground with a resounding thud, its limbs already broken from the punch itself.

The rest of the Anomalies were not idle as they had already used that time to close the distance between us.

That means it’s time for our melee too.

We charged towards the Anomalies, Maylene peeling away from us with her enhanced speed as she darted through their ranks.

She definitely did some training during her spare time at the tower because I realised she was handling them with a pair of knives that she was wielding to slice open the throats of several of those Anomalies.

They did not even have time to realise that she was there before their throats were split open and they were clutching at their wounds in confusion as they bled out.

If Maylene was alone, she might not be able to move that freely since the Anomalies’ attention would be on her but when she has support like us backing her up... She’s actually a really formidable opponent.

Olivia reached the crowd of Anomalies next, delivering a quick one-two punch to the Anomaly in front of her to send it flying away like it was filled with feathers.

She continued that combo for the next few Anomalies that tried to rush her, beating them aside like they were just nothing more than punching bags rushing towards her.

Her punches and elbow strikes look so refined and quick that it felt like she was merely walking forward casually and Anomalies just got flung away from her automatically.

Dan was less refined where he was simply charging through the Anomalies like a tank and bashing them aside or smashing them over him for Liliac to crush with her plants.

As for me...

Well... I was simply walking down the middle of the road like I was taking a stroll.

An Anomaly jumped at me and got punched out of the air with my floating fist.

Another of those wolf monkey hybrids tried to rush at me, thinking its smaller form would prevent me from taking notice before leaping at me.

I reached out my hand and grabbed it by its throat, stopping it at an arm’s length away from me before using it to smash the face of one of those monkey wolf hybrids, disintegrating both its body and the bigger Anomaly’s face into a cloud of red mist.

Another monkey wolf hybrid lunged at me, only for my other floating arm to smash down from above and crush it into the ground into meat paste without slowing me down.

Three rushed at me at the same time, only to have me grab the two flanking me with my real arms to smash them against the third one that had tried to come at me from the middle.

While they were dazed, I let electricity flow through my arms and electrocuted the two Anomalies until their heads popped before I dropped them by my sides.

The third one was still shaking its head to recover so I stepped up and placed my hand on its chest, drawing all the body heat I could from it and transfer it to my other palm where I shot out a gout of flames to burn the next pair of Anomalies.

It then dropped onto the ground, its body frozen up before parts of its body broke off from the severe lack of heat as its organs completely shut down.

More tried to rush at me so I decided to try out summoning my clone, making him appear beside me in... Well... All my naked glory.

That didn’t matter to the Anomalies of course as I charged up lightning in both my arms, my clone also copying me which was not difficult to do since we were both facing the same direction and doing the same thing.

I then punched my fists forward, letting loose four streams of lightning that blew away an entire crowd of Anomalies and turning them into dust before I unsummoned my clone.

Hmm... If I could actually start controlling my clone effectively, I wonder just how much more I could do.

But for now... I guess I should just be satisfied with this as I continued my slow walk into the town alongside my Guardians.
