Chapter 266: We Got A Quest

We decided to help them with their request to look for their missing friends, more because we wanted to look for more survivors to gather them in one place in case we needed to evacuate them.

Also because we won’t be the ones clearing this rift since we had the agreement with Malaysia and Indonesia to let them handle the next two rifts that appear within our lands so Siti or Diana might end up coming here to handle this.

Normally, they would only send their Guardians but I have a feeling they would just use this as an excuse to come see me or something...

I suppose I should also find the chance to go visit them if I could at least, since that would let me teleport there once I do.

Although... I worry that it might lead to them demanding I visit them more often which I honestly don’t really think it might be a completely good thing...

Right now, I’m getting messages from them in the group chat where they will just talk about the most random things like what they ate for breakfast, lunch and dinner, what their Guardians were doing, what they were doing, and even what kind of toy they were using to satisfy themselves.

They really have no filter... Though I guess I’m partly responsible for reacting to them which I believe encouraged their behaviour as well...

Putting that aside, I could tell that those five people we met did not think we would actually survive out there as they escorted us out.

They did give us some basic information about that group of survivors and mentioned that they believe they should be holed up in a building that they had fortified but they could not tell me what exact building they were supposed to be in.

Guess we’ll have to do some searching once we get there.

Along the way, I decided to ask, "What’s with the bloodstains and the hole in the door?"

"None of your business," The guy with the scanner gun immediately shot back, still pointing that weapon at our backs as he marched us all the way to the garage.

Dan turned to raise an eyebrow at him, "You not really friendly ah?"

"Why the hell would you assume that I want to be friends with you? You’re already lucky that I didn’t kill you the moment I saw you!"

This guy really has no idea how close he is to dying...

I can sense Olivia tightening her fists and I’m pretty sure the moment that guy tries to do anything that she thinks meant he was going to pull the trigger on me... She would immediately turn around and delete his face with her fist.

He walked us up to the garage door that had a giant hole in it and watched us climb through it before slowly backing away.

I figured we shouldn’t stick around since he might go and check the other door and figured out we kicked the door in and start more trouble with us so we just continued up the ramp to see where this part led to.

We eventually reached what looked like a false ceiling with a large hole that looked like something heavy had dropped through it, prompting us to climb through that hole to get back to the surface.

I quickly realised that this was near the broken gate we had first come across but the surrounding area was now overgrown with plants.

A fence seemed to have been set up to cover this place but there was a part of the fence where it looked like it had been kicked down for someone to bust through.

I’m going to hazard a guess that this place used to be accepting of survivors at the start of the Anomaly invasion and they might have even gone out on scavenger runs with the vehicles to get supplies for the hideout.

But after the Anomalies took over the place, they realise that they could not go outside anymore and set up a fence around this area to block them out, hoping they would not investigate the hidden garage entrance by fencing it up.

Then either an Anomaly or some other survivors who decided to be raiders came along and broke into their hideout, which probably led to a short skirmish that might have killed one or maybe a few of their own.

That then led to them deciding to close off the place and became wary of anything and anyone coming from the outside.

They most likely wanted to shut off the radio as well but the guy who was tasked to do it didn’t want to put himself at risk by climbing out to the surface and just pretended that he shut it off.

Honestly, under normal circumstances, that guy would probably be flayed alive for taking such a risk where he left a literal marker up to get people to find their hideout.

But I guess in this case, it kind of worked out for them since we were basically their salvation to get off this world.

As we stepped outside, one of those monkey wolf hybrid Anomalies was standing just outside the fence, the creature partially hidden by the tall grass.

It turned the moment it saw me but did not manage to do anything before Maylene had rushed forward to slice a knife through its throat before returning to my side.

That was not enough to kill it but it certainly made it pause and scratch at its throat as though it was confused on why it was bleeding from there.

Dan then rushed through the gap in the fence and brought his mace down, smashing it on top of the creature’s head and knocking it to the ground.

He then raised his foot and stomped down hard, splattering its head into meat paste.

"Ugh... Was that really necessary?" I asked, looking at how the blood and bits of Anomaly flesh were now stuck to the bottom of his armoured boot.

He lifted it up to look at it and grimaced, showing me that he definitely did not think of that before he smashed the Anomaly with his foot.

"Yuck... I’m going to need to wash this off before I get back..."

I made a mental note to hose him down later before we moved back to the road again.

Obviously the plan wasn’t to walk all the way there but for me to fly there and create the teleportation door for them once I’m there. But we figured that having them stand in the middle of a small clearing while being surrounded by tall grass might not be a good idea.

Thus, we decided to head to the main road first where we at least have space for them to check for potential threats around and see them coming before they pounce on them.

Incidentally, we did not meet any of the wolf monkey hybrids which we had come across in the tall grass earlier, though I have a feeling they were just hiding and watching us from a distance and not really gone.

I left my Guardians waiting in the centre of the main road, only to have Maylene tug on my arm and giving me a pleading look.

I decided not to make a big fuss and reached out my hand, allowing her to pull herself up before climbing on top of me to sit on my shoulders with her legs clamping the sides of my face again.

With her secured on my shoulders, I flew up into the air, flying in the direction of the town that I had seen earlier on my hunt for the survivors.

From above, I could see that the streets of the town were rife with Anomalies as they lumbered around while looking listless.

"There’s a lot of them..." Maylene pointed out while leaning herself on top of my head. "Are we going to try sneaking in?"

"Unfortunately... It seems like they operate on some kind of horde mentality where they would swarm a target if allowed to send out a signal to the others around them. With so many of them in close proximity to each other... I think it would be safer for us to clear out the Anomalies inside the town first before we proceed with the search."

"Oooohh~ A fight then~ With just the five of us?"

"I suppose so. Let me bring the rest in..."

I landed on the main road a short distance away from the entrance of the town and summoned the teleportation door in front of me, letting Dan and the others step through it to rejoin me.

Dan took one look in the direction of the town and groaned when he saw the Anomalies standing at the entrance.

"We gonna fight a horde aren’t we?" He asked.

"Yeah. Let’s clear them out," I nodded, letting my purple smoke flow out from me and summoning my floating arms.

Time to do some cleaning up.
