Chapter 556: Chapter 304: Reunion (2)
However, the Golden Wizard didn’t elaborate on Selena, instead resuming his previous conversation with Baron. The Golden Wizard said,
“Since Selena has told you everything, I won’t explain it all again.”
“As a deposit for the mission, I’ve had the Prole Court drop all charges against you. But to avoid attracting too much attention, I’d advise you not to go around acting as the Dragon Knight.”
“You’re quite the popular star in the Inner Side now, Mr. Constantine. Believe me, the number of young admirers chasing you won’t be much smaller than the Law Enforcement Organization was.”
The Golden Wizard said teasingly, “Alright, this old man’s rambling is officially over. Now it’s your turn, young man. You can ask me anything you want to know.”
“I will hold nothing back.”
Baron thought for a moment. He felt this Golden Wizard might be trustworthy. After all, considering the power he had displayed, Baron knew it would be child’s play for him to take him down.
‘Perhaps I should tell him everything I know about the Dragon Eater Association. At the very least, the Golden Wizard’s knowledge might help me find out just where the Association’s leader—the true mastermind—is hiding.’
From Elder Pence and Roy Hestia, he knew that all the Dragon Eater Association’s decisions were made by their hidden leader, Martin. Also, judging by the fact that he had once accidentally imitated the Association’s leader, he must have met the man somewhere before…
So he told Golden Wizard Newton everything he currently knew about the Dragon Eater Association, hoping to receive some enlightenment from the ancient Wise One.
The London Tower Master was slightly surprised to hear that the Dragon Eater Association’s true faith was not the Dragon God, but the Immortal Goddess.
The Golden Wizard said, “I see. No wonder when I scry the stars for the Dragon Eater Association’s Destiny, I can only see their birth and never glimpse their end.”
“The Immortal Goddess, Fla, commands Eternity. It is Eternity that stretches their single moment across the vastness of Time.”
“Mr. Constantine, you’ve presented me with quite a puzzle… But I’m afraid I don’t know much more about the Dragon Eater Association than you do.”
But the Dragon Knight didn’t look disappointed that his problem couldn’t be solved. Instead, his face showed pure shock—a shock that bordered on horror.
He said, “The Immortal Goddess’s name is… Fla?”
The Golden Wizard nodded.
Baron felt like his head was going to explode.
‘The Immortal Goddess is named Fla… The other soul in Freya’s body is also named Fla… Is this a coincidence, or is there a real connection?’
While Baron’s mind was racing, the Golden Wizard said, “Are you wondering why I, as the London Tower Master, would allow a heretical Lawbreaker organization like the Dragon Eater Association to wreak havoc in the Inner Side?”
Baron was stunned. ‘No, that’s not what I was thinking…’
“Because the Inner Side is about to collapse.” The Golden Wizard stated the most terrifying thing in the calmest tone. “The Order that sustains the Inner Side began to gradually crumble a century ago. This points to only one possibility: the Great Lord has begun to awaken.”
‘The Great Lord has begun to awaken…’ The sudden flood of information was becoming too much for Baron to handle.
“I’ve been using the Wizard Law to stabilize Order, so I haven’t been able to step away easily all these years.”
‘Using the Wizard Law to stabilize Order… Wait, Tower Master, are you really *just* a Golden Wizard?’
Baron nodded. “So is that why the output of Wizard Professional Lawbooks has been so low all these years?”
Every Professional Law has its own Lawbook. When an Old Race member’s Spiritual Sense awakens, signing a Lawbook is equivalent to successfully registering with that Professional Law.
According to Bagins, the formation of these Professional Lawbooks is the result of artificially intervening with the Law’s Star Dust.
And according to statistics from an official newspaper like the *Mercury Thames*, the total output of Wizard Professional Lawbooks in the last century doesn’t even equal a single year’s output of Demon Hunter’s Lawbooks. Perhaps this was the main reason.
Baron just didn’t understand why the Golden Wizard would choose to tell him all these secrets. First, the mysteries of the Inner Side, the Outer Side, and the Proles, and now his difficult predicament as the London Tower Master, shouldering the burden of the Inner Side… If Baron were actually a Lawbreaker, the Inner Side would be well and truly doomed.
Hearing Baron’s question, the Golden Wizard paused. “Oh, the reduction in Wizard’s Lawbooks isn’t for that reason. I just figured that if I sold fewer of them, I could charge a higher price…”
Baron: “…”
He could suddenly understand why the Golden Wizard said he almost became the governor of Westminster Bank.
‘First the Mad Dragon, and now the Great Lord… No wonder when I first arrived, I felt the Inner Side had the skin of the 20th century but the decaying soul of the Middle Ages.’
‘Although Jack and I always used to joke that the Inner Side should just hurry up and be done with, I never thought the reality was that it’s *actually* about to be done with.’
Baron asked the Golden Wizard, “Since the Great Lord is awakening, doesn’t that mean the Proles will…”
“As the tomb that seals the Great Lord, the collapse of the Prole world is inevitable,” the Golden Wizard said. “But at least we can protect our own world before it crumbles completely.”
‘We…’ Baron latched onto the word immediately.
But the Golden Wizard didn’t elaborate. He suddenly tapped his fingers on the armrest of his lounge chair and said abruptly,
“Mr. Constantine, I almost forgot something important. It’s a favor Governor Hoover once asked of me.”
“What is it?”
The Golden Wizard casually sketched a door into the air. He smiled at Baron. “You haven’t been home in a long time, have you?”
“Home?” The first thing that came to Baron’s mind was the house his family had built in his rural hometown, back in his past life.
But he knew he could never go back to that life.
Then, he thought of his small apartment in Birmingham, the one where he’d stashed one million pounds.
But now that he thought about it, with him being wanted and officially missing, the landlord had probably changed the locks… It was even possible some wandering Gypsies had moved in.
Finally, he thought of one last place. In his memories, this body’s original owner had deep ties to it. But for some reason, the thought of that place filled Baron with an unavoidable sense of dread.
The feeling seemed incredible to him.
He’d flown a Griffin Carriage from London to Birmingham. He’d infiltrated Buckingham Palace disguised as a bumbling thief. He’d escaped the clutches of Law Enforcement Organizations like the Holy Cross Association, the Inquisition, and the Templar Order… From the Proles to the Dracul Mountain Range, all the way to Traitor’s Cliff… what dangers hadn’t he faced? What trials hadn’t he endured?
And yet, somehow, the thought of the two people he might be about to see made Baron feel something he was reluctant to admit… a mix of hesitation and anticipation?
‘Was it the influence of the body’s original memories?’
‘Or had this long life on the run started to make him long for a place where he could finally rest, if only for a moment?’
‘Damn it! Zhou Yike, could you be any more sentimental and sappy!’ he berated himself, trying to ease his own anxiety.
The Golden Wizard saw Baron’s unease. The legendary London Tower Master of the Inner Side chuckled lightly.
“It’s time to go home. Your brother and sister miss you very much.”
‘Brother and sister…’ As an only child in his past life, the words struck Baron with a strange sense of novelty.
The Golden Wizard smiled, rose to his feet, and personally pushed the door open for Baron. Then, he gave Baron a push with his Spiritual Power, sending him through the doorway.
Baron felt like a robot whose batteries had died, moving forward stiffly.
It was like all those nights of overtime in his past life, pacing in front of his boss’s office while clutching a newly finished report. You take so many steps forward, yet not a single one is a step you actually want to take.
He stood in the world behind the door. It was a street lined with small apartment blocks, their walls covered in mustard-yellow ivy.
“The room number is 502, but I think you might need a bouquet of flowers.” The Golden Wizard’s words echoed leisurely in his ears.
A fresh bouquet of flowers appeared in Baron’s hands. It was a bundle of pale purple irises that shouldn’t have been in bloom at this time of year.
