Chapter 553 - 303: Inner Side and Outer Side
The Golden Mage, however, simply stood with his hands behind his back, his smile still holding a wisdom reminiscent of a wise one from Ancient Greece.
"Mr. Constantine, there’s no need to be surprised or afraid. The Old Blood of the Constantine Clan is hardly a secret to me... In fact, aside from the secret that you’ve contracted two Professional Laws, I also know that the Master of Dreams has chosen you to be a Dream Seeker."
Baron, who had just breathed a sigh of relief, felt his heart leap into his throat once more.
"You’ve been to Dreamland, haven’t you?" The Golden Mage’s sudden question felt like a bombshell in Baron’s mind.
’Dreamland? The London Tower Master knows about that, too?’
Baron’s pupils dilated. His Golden Eye nearly flared to life, but he suppressed the reflexive reaction.
’The old man sitting before me is arguably the pinnacle of combat power in the entire Inner Side. Me going up against him would be like a hissing kitten facing a pack of bulldogs.’
Unable to discern the Golden Mage’s true intentions, he steadied his emotions and asked with forced composure, "What Dreamland?"
Newton said, perfectly unperturbed, "The Prole Continent."
Although he had braced himself the moment the Golden Mage uttered the word "Dreamland," Baron had to admit that hearing the name actually come from the London Tower Master’s lips still left him with a complicated mix of feelings.
’Wait a minute... The Golden Mage also calls Prole "Dreamland." Logically, isn’t it the Shepherdess’s dream? Baron recalled the Starry-Eyed Monster had also called Prole "Dreamland." Could it be that Prole is actually a world created by the Dream Master? But... that doesn’t quite add up.’
"Since you’re not denying it, I’ll take that as a confirmation."
"But don’t worry, I won’t tell this secret to anyone else," Newton chuckled. "I’m only telling you all this to show you that even though I know a great deal about you, I have no intention of harming you."
"After all, no Wizard from the London Tower has ever joined a siege against a Lawbreaker Dragon Knight," the Golden Mage added teasingly.
Baron didn’t understand the Golden Mage’s ultimate goal, so he could only respond with silence.
The Legendary Grand Mage of the Inner Side didn’t seem nearly as profound and unfathomable as the rumors suggested. He was more like one of those old men from Baron’s past life who would lie on a park bench, staring into space. He muttered to himself through Baron’s silence before finally revealing his true purpose:
"Mr. Constantine, I’d like to make a request. It’s not quite a transaction, and you are free to refuse. I won’t use any of this to threaten you..."
Baron looked up, but the Golden Mage was no longer there. Instinct made him look behind, where he saw the mage pushing open a door to leave. He followed him and asked, "What kind of request?"
Stepping through the doorway revealed a cozy room with a warm fireplace, a sofa, and a lounge chair. From the view out the window, it was clear he was now at the very top of the London Tower.
Traitor’s Cliff was hundreds of miles from the London Tower, yet the Golden Mage could travel between the two locations with ease just by drawing a door. ’He really is Doraemon,’ Baron thought, resuming his long-neglected habit of sarcastic internal commentary.
The Golden Mage settled into the lounge chair and patted the sofa beside him, gesturing for Baron to sit.
"Let’s not be hasty, Mr. Constantine. Before we get to that, I should first explain to you why I’m making this request..."
"I imagine you must be wondering about the connection between Prole, the Inner Side, and the Outer Side. For instance, why do legends of the Ancient Gods and Old Gods circulate in both Prole and the Inner Side?"
Baron sat down and shook his head. "I’m not curious."
He really wasn’t.
After everything he had been through, he was mentally exhausted. He firmly believed that the more you know, the more you get entangled in, and it was best to avoid stirring up trouble.
"You are curious," Newton said, clapping his hands. "Bring a cup of black tea for our esteemed Mr. Constantine. The weather in London City is so cold... reminds me of students who just can’t grasp calculus. One needs a cup of tea to warm the hands."
’I’d rather have a cappuccino, if I’m being honest,’ Baron thought, making a lame joke from his past life.
Baron’s gaze flickered. He heard whispers from the hallway outside the door—they sounded like girls’ voices.
"The professor is calling for tea. Who’s going to take it in?" a girl asked.
"Is that him? The legendary Dragon Knight who killed Elder Pence on Traitor’s Cliff? He’s so handsome..."
"He didn’t just kill Elder Pence. They say he also got the former Knight Commander of the Griffin Knight Order, Roy Hestia... And that a dozen top-tier Law Enforcers surrounded him and couldn’t lay a finger on him."
"A dozen? Wasn’t it more than fifty, according to the news?"
"More than fifty? The paper I read said the Dragon Knight single-handedly fought several hundred Black Iron and Bronze Law Enforcers, killed the Silver-ranked Elder Pence while being besieged by two other Silver Knights, and shocked the Golden Tier president of the Demon Hunter Association."
"Which paper was that? It’s different from what I read... Let me see..."
"Here, this one. The Westminster Times... It’s the most impartial paper on the Inner Side. You know those Taboo Item Thieves and gold-grubbers wouldn’t go out of their way to praise a Lawbreaker, right?"
After reading the paper, the girls gasped. Even the Westminster Times—a paper that prided itself on being the most impartial on the Inner Side and had even dared to criticize the Britain Royal Family and the London Tower Master—had recorded the events this way. It seemed the story about the young man holding off hundreds of Law Enforcers by himself was true.
To be so young and yet accomplish such a feat at Traitor’s Cliff, right in front of so many elite Law Enforcers... The way the girls looked at the young man in the living room changed completely.
"But the Mercury Thames said he’s also a ruthless killer. It claims that back in Berthelili, he once cornered countless Law Enforcers and pushed them to the brink of death."
