Westminster Bank

Chapter 552 - 302: Court Judgement

The white-robed elder looked at Baron, his azure eyes brimming with wisdom. "Mr. Constantine, I require your assistance to seal the Mad Dragon. Are you willing?"

The Dragon Knight rose, took the Westminster Holding Ring a bailiff handed him, and slid it on. "Then what are we waiting for? Respected Isaac Newton, it is my honor to be of service."

A large portion of the audience shot to their feet, staring blankly at the white-robed elder.

Isaac Newton! The white-robed elder was none other than the legendary Wizard of the Inner Side, Isaac Newton!!!

In the Inner Side, you could get away with not knowing who the Queen of Britain or the current prime minister is. That might just mean you simply don’t care about politics.

But if you claimed not to know the London Tower Master, Golden Wizard Isaac Newton, then you had to be a spy sent by the Soviets.

But no one had ever expected this legendary Law Enforcer of the Inner Side—the Golden Wizard who had once single-handedly stood against the Dragon Race—to appear here. Not only that, but he had come looking for the Dragon Knight, Baron Constantin, and for a matter concerning the Mad Dragon sealed at Traitor’s Cliff.

"As are you, respected Dragon Knight. The lives of the people of the Inner Side now rest on your shoulders. And a good afternoon to you all."

The Golden Wizard gave a slight bow to the dumbstruck Law Enforcers in the audience. Then, he casually drew a door in the air, pushed it open, and said to Baron, "After you."

’The Law Enforcers in the audience must be staring wide-eyed at my back,’ Baron thought. ’What else could be in their eyes besides shock? Envy, perhaps?’

After all, the whole scene was absurdly similar to a high school drama. Imagine your classmates, buzzing with excitement over their college applications, looking on with smug satisfaction as you—the delinquent who got expelled for fighting—are packing your bags to leave in disgrace. Then, the door swings open, and a professor from Harvard stands in the doorway. He looks right at you and says, "Kid, I’m the one who had you expelled. You can forget about school. Your country has a mission for you."

Baron found it incredible that he could have such a lighthearted, self-mocking thought at a time like this.

He then stepped through the door and found himself standing with Golden Wizard Newton high in the air above Traitor’s Cliff.

They were truly high in the sky, an invisible floor beneath their feet. Looking down, Baron could see throngs of Wizards and Knights massed at the cliff’s edge.

The colossal stone blocks anchoring the great chains to the cliff’s edge were covered in cracks. They shuddered in time with the movements of the Mad Dragon’s immense shadow in the Abyss below, their surfaces flaking away like weathered lacquer.

As if sensing the shadows overhead, the people below looked up, their expressions complex.

"They’ve all come to see you, the famous Dragon Knight." The Golden Wizard smiled, closing the door behind them. "Speaking of which, this is our first formal meeting, is it not?"

’First formal meeting? Don’t tell me we’ve met before.’

Seemingly reading Baron’s mind, the Golden Wizard clasped his hands behind his back and ambled over to his side. Gazing into the white Abyss, a reminiscent look filled his eyes.

"You were very young. Your father, Fran Constantin, brought you to me with fifty kilograms of Gold, seeking to have me resurrect your mother."

’Fifty kilograms of Gold...’ Baron did a quick calculation. Back in 1987, that much Gold would have been worth tens of millions of British Pounds. You could probably buy a hundred villas in Central London and connect them to make one giant estate.

The Golden Wizard smiled. "That is why I feel you are well-suited for Westminster Bank. You are not a slave to your desires, but you are a devotee of Gold."

"Speaking of which, I almost became the Governor of Westminster Bank once. I believe Victoria was on the throne of Britain at the time? Ah, I forget the details."

He sounded like any old man from the countryside, boasting to a youngster. The difference was, Baron knew every word he said was true.

Because according to Governor Hoover, the elder before him was the first Law Enforcer in the recorded history of the Inner Old Race to have ever slain a God.

The very concepts of Order and Forgetfulness that the Inner Side possessed had been stripped from that fallen God by this very Golden Wizard.

Newton watched the great, struggling shadow of the Mad Dragon in the Abyss. "Mr. Constantine," he said, "this next part of the sealing might be a bit painful. I trust you can endure it."

Hearing this, Baron instantly focused his mind and controlled his breathing, indicating he was ready.

"Hold out your hand."

Baron extended his hand. The Golden Wizard used his Spiritual Power to painlessly slice open Baron’s index finger, drawing forth a single drop of blood and letting it fall into the Abyss.

"There."

The moment the Golden Wizard spoke, the cut on Baron’s finger finished healing. Simultaneously, the roars of the Mad Dragon from the Abyss ceased, as if someone had hit a mute button.

"That quickly?"

Baron was dumbfounded. ’I know the Golden Wizard is absurdly powerful,’ he thought, ’but isn’t this sealing process a little too... perfunctory?’

’If all it took was one drop of blood, then what about the other night? When he and Elder Pence fought that epic battle, he must have lost liters of it. Couldn’t that have been used to give the Mad Dragon a life sentence?’

Newton chuckled. "When I first laid this ward, I used the blood of the previous Lancelot Patriarch. At the time, the Golden Lion was the only power that could resist the Mad Dragon’s corruption, even for a short while."

"So, Tower Master, are you saying that a Pure-blood Ancient Dragon is basically the same as a Golden Lion?" Baron asked.

But Newton shook his head. "The Mad Dragon’s Madness originated from the Dragon Race itself. An ordinary Pure-blood Ancient Dragon could never resist its corruption."

"Is it because I threw Elder Pence’s body into the Abyss last night, then?"

The Golden Wizard shook his head again. With his hands clasped behind his back, he explained, "Reinforcing the seal requires the blood of the living. The dead carry the taint of Death, which would only accelerate the spread of Madness."

"Then why..." Baron couldn’t understand what else was so special about him.

"The blood of a Dragon Knight bonded to a Pure-blood Ancient Dragon cannot, in fact, resist the Mad Dragon’s corruption."

The Golden Wizard maintained his serene, sagely smile. "But I never said a Red Dragon Knight couldn’t. Especially not one who has been acknowledged by the Golden Dragon Spear... and who also enjoys the favor of Blood."

The color drained from Baron’s face. He instantly felt that something was missing from his body. Using his Spiritual Vision to look inward... he found it! The aura of the Master of Blood was gone!

He looked at Newton in alarm, but the Golden Wizard retained that look of perfect composure, as if he had insight into all the world’s affairs. He chuckled softly.

"The Mad Dragon is a being on the verge of surpassing the Tier of Gold, so naturally, it must be counterbalanced by something beyond Gold... That sliver of a God’s will inside you is now the perfect tool for suppression."

’The will of the Master of Blood was used to suppress the Mad Dragon...’ A muscle in Baron’s jaw twitched. He hadn’t expected the Golden Wizard’s methods to be so brutally straightforward, and so... unique.

’Still, this was for the best,’ he mused. ’I was worried that when I went to the dreamscape to see the Shepherdess, the Master of Blood would detect the Dream Master, or vice versa, and a fight would break out. Though, based on the Tiers of Law, the Ancient God, the Master of Blood—sealed since birth—would probably be no match for an Old God like the Master of Dreams.’

’Wait!’

Baron’s mind snapped to attention. ’If the Golden Wizard could detect the Master of Blood’s aura, doesn’t that mean he knows about my hidden second profession...?’

He looked toward the Golden Wizard, who seemed to read his thoughts. "Are you afraid of your identity as a Blood Faction Demon Hunter being exposed?"

Baron’s heart plummeted. ’The Golden Wizard really did see through my hidden second profession... No, wait! If he could tell that I’m bound to two different Professional Laws, then does that mean he also saw my biggest secret—my transmigration?’

Cold sweat broke out on Baron’s back. ’Transmigration is my most important secret. If the Golden Wizard gets any ideas...’

Baron struggled to keep a neutral expression, but inwardly, he was already starting to regret this meeting with the Golden Wizard.

The London Tower Master was truly as unfathomable as the legends claimed.

’I’m screwed.’
