Chapter 548 - 300: War of Gold!

  • Next Chapter

All the Law Enforcers looked on in horror.

This elderly Knight was actually Golden Knight Bode of the Templar Order.

All the Old Blood Elders exchanged glances, their expressions turning grave.

Even a leader from the Templar Order was here to snatch him? It seemed this Dragon Knight, Baron Constantin, was even more important than they had imagined.

And without a doubt, now that Golden Knight Bode had entered the fray, these Old Blood Elders had lost their qualifications and opportunity to compete for the Dragon Knight.

Because from the moment the second Golden Tier Law Enforcer took the field, this battle for the Dragon Knight had suddenly become a war of Gold Tiers!

And it wasn’t just the Golden Knight from the Templar Order. Everyone watched as a golden Cross suddenly materialized above the blood moon in the sky, and from it came a vast, oracle-like voice:

"Dragon Knight Baron Constantin, enter my Holy Hall, and I will grant you Gold."

The voice echoed throughout Traitor’s Cliff, ringing in everyone’s ears like the tolling of church bells.

Then, some of the Law Enforcers reacted, exclaiming in shock:

"A Holy Knight! That’s a Holy Knight from the Holy Cross Association!"

A Golden Tier Faith Knight of the Holy Cross Association was respectfully addressed as a Holy Knight.

And this Holy Knight was clearly upholding the consistent Honesty of the Knightly Virtues. He offered no excuses like the other high-ranking Law Enforcers from the Old Blood Clans, such as "maintaining the Order of the Inner Side" or "preventing the Dragon Knight from attacking other members of the Old Race." He simply repeated:

"Baron Constantin, enter my Holy Hall, and I will grant you Gold."

A Holy Knight who commanded one-third of the Knight Law was guaranteeing that Baron Constantin would become a Gold Tier... Never mind the shock of the Old Race Law Enforcers; even the Old Blood Elders’ eyes widened unconsciously, their breathing growing slightly ragged.

Gold Tier... This symbolized the absolute apex of a Professional Law!

In the Age of Law, a God was called a God precisely because He had mastered a complete Golden Law.

And a Golden Tier Law Enforcer who possessed one-third of it could, by rights, be considered one-third of a God.

If this promise had come from another Law Enforcement Organization (specifically, one with zero credibility on the Inner Side, like Westminster Bank), everyone might have dismissed it as a mere recruitment tactic and laughed it off.

But now, the one who spoke was a Holy Knight of the Holy Cross Association! And as everyone knew, because of the Eight Virtues, Faith Knights always spoke the honest truth.

Since he said he would grant Baron Constantin Gold Tier, then no matter the process, the Dragon Knight would one day become a bona fide Gold Tier!

At this, the way everyone looked at Baron Constantin changed once again. If before they were fantasizing about how to take the Dragon Knight away and what value he could bring to their respective clans...

...then now, after the elusive, faith-based Holy Cross Association had entered the fray for him, and after a Holy Knight had personally declared he could make Baron Constantin a Golden Tier Law Enforcer...

The once-Lawbreaker Dragon Knight had, in a single leap, become an unreachable figure whom they would need to curry favor with in the future.

To go from a wanted fugitive to a revered Dragon Knight in an instant—this was the reality of the Inner Side!

The most typical example was the Pound Siblings, lingering outside the circle of Law Enforcers.

After Abraham and Golden Bode entered the field, people had already started approaching them one after another. And after the Holy Knight promised to make Baron Constantin a Gold Tier, Wizard Hilde, who had previously been at odds with the two, "coincidentally" brought the gaggle of spoiled brats who used to follow him around to apologize.

After Hilde left, Pound snorted coldly. "A pack of fair-weather curs."

Windsor, however, just smiled helplessly.

’My brother didn’t even realize he just accepted their apology so readily.’

Her gaze fell upon the Dragon Knight, the focus of everyone’s attention. The man had already extinguished his flames and was now silently watching the sky. The fierce wind whipped his hair about, but his dazzling Golden Eyes still burned like ignited embers.

And all of this was because of Baron Constantin. The Lawbreaker her brother once believed to be the murderer of their cousin, Soron.

"Baron Constantin..." Windsor repeated the name under her breath, her voice soft as if her tongue were tracing soft gauze. "If only there were no Yelena... how wonderful that would be."

On the field, Abraham stared at the Cross above the blood moon and muttered, "This guy makes such a grand entrance every time. Is he really upholding the Eight Knightly Virtues?"

"Besides, shouldn’t the Holy Cross Association just stick to being Cultists? To think they’d want a piece of the Dragon Knight pie, too... What kind of bullshit faith is that?"

"Gold Tier, my ass! Pah! You could offer me that one-third of the Knight Law and I still wouldn’t take it."

Although the Old Cowboy was a Golden Demon Hunter, he had always been a straightforward character who said whatever was on his mind, without any of the airs of a Gold Tier.

That’s why he couldn’t stand Faith Knights from the Holy Cross Association, who were always going on about the Eight Virtues and how one must not betray their faith—this had nothing to do with the war he fought against a Holy Knight in his youth.

Abraham shouted toward the blood moon, "Lord Holy Knight, if you want to snatch Baron Constantin too, then come on down from that moon and let’s talk this out in the open!"

The Holy Knight ignored the Old Cowboy, merely repeating his earlier words.

Golden Knight Bode, on the other hand, addressed the Cross above the blood moon:

"Your Excellency, Holy Knight, Baron Constantin is already a Contract Knight. His Professional system is not compatible with that of the Holy Hall... If you are thinking of having the Dragon Knight abandon his current Profession to start over, I’m afraid he might not be willing."

It was common knowledge on the Inner Side that a member of the Old Race who had a successful Spiritual Sense awakening could at most form a contract with a single Professional Law.

"Only the Templar Order is the best place to train a Contract Knight, not to mention that the Constantine Clan once belonged to the Templar Knight Clan."

Knight Bode nodded at the ever-expressionless Dragon Knight and said:

"Although Baron Constantin was once exiled from the Constantine Family, the blood of a Knight Clan still flows in his veins. He naturally belongs to our Order."

"Why not mention the name Fran Constantin... I thought Bode Hall Master would use the fact that Baron Constantin’s father was once the leader of your Dragon Heart Knight Order to make your case," the Holy Knight replied faintly.

Golden Knight Bode just smiled. "Because I believe if Baron Constantin joins the Order, his future accomplishments will be no less than his father’s."

Since the Holy Knight had laid his cards on the table, the Golden Knight no longer needed to hide behind slogans about upholding Order.

"You only value his current achievements," the Holy Knight said faintly. "I value his future accomplishments."

"Future accomplishments?" Abraham sneered. "Does the Holy Knight fancy himself a Golden Mage?"

The Holy Knight’s voice, as cold as a glacier and filled with divinity, continued to drift through the air:

"I do not have the ability to see the future, but I can extrapolate based on everything that has happened in the past."

No one noticed, but the expression on Golden Knight Bode’s face wavered slightly.

But Abraham said, "If you have something to say, say it clearly to our faces! Stop being so cryptic all the time. Anyone who didn’t know better would think you’re one of those Gypsy Witches!"

The Golden Cross above the blood moon shrank in everyone’s eyes until it formed the silhouette of a person within their line of sight.

It was a delicate-looking young man, dressed in a moon-white robe like that of an Ancient Greek Wise One. His pale gold hair fell to his waist, and his eyes, the same shade of pale gold, were adorned with emerald green crosses.

He descended from the sky along invisible steps, his slow movements appearing impossibly elegant, reminding one of an Angel descending from Heaven to chant the gospel for all living beings.

And strangely, with each step he took, his appearance grew younger.

By the time he arrived in front of Baron Constantin, he looked like a young boy of no more than seven or eight. But the boy met everyone’s gaze as an equal. He floated in the air, his bare feet never once touching the ground—perhaps this symbolized an Angel’s purity from the dust of the world.
