Chapter 716: Rule Of The Steppe

  • Next Chapter

What made the Qin dynasty is the system.

But what made the system work?

People.

When people are treated worse than animals, then who would mourn such dynasty other than those uneducated people

They did not live in those times and only see the glory of the ruling class. When the ruling class prosper, it did not mean the county prospers and the common people prosper.

A dynasty that is thought to be so powerful, but it ended in only two generations.

How swift the rise, how swift the fall!

There is many foundation that appear strong but it is a fa?ade. When one rushes thing too much, then what one would be left with is just a foundation full of holes.

But it would be fast and if Aeryon lived long enough, he might have time to patch it up and if his descent amine to keep the kingdom for a long time, there is a great chance that it could last.

But there would be rebellion and each rebellion sap the power of the people and the thing about such position is that once you take such a position, it is hard to take any other position

The other method is slower. It would take compromise. A lot of talking. A lot of discussion. Boring stuff.

Not the stuff that would be written about with gusto or sang about in the fireplace, where the king would punish those who defy his words with powerful measure, winning the awe and fear of the subjects.

Not the kind of hot blooded story.

But it would create a more lasting foundation. The cons is simply time. It would take time and it would take patience.

However, the fruit of such method is sweet.

Now, it is clear that the identity that the tribes have built and the separation of the tribes is about to come to an end.

The two most powerful tribe in the southern great tribes would have a showdown sooner or later.

And the tribes that are not in this league have to think of a way to make sure that when the dust settles, and the victorious army rides toward their tribe, that they would not be a fish in the chopping block.

They at least wanted to protect some usefulness and some strength so that when the victor of that conflict came to their land, they would look at them and their warriors and accorded them the respect of a warrior and a chief.

A weak chief facing a world shaking conqueror would have no face and no leverage to use. So, gather strength and only then they could command respect.

Isn’t what happen in the west a sign?

How did Aeryon treat the Chagai tribe compare to how he treats the other tribes that he had subdued and conquered?

The Chagai tribe surrendered but they surrender with strength. The Khan himself lower himself and sent all supplies to honour the funeral of the Chief Chadha.

He gave respect and just like the stories of the old, the son of Chagai then surrender. It become a beautiful story among the warriors.

The warriors is spared of war and peace and unification is just around the corner.

The chief of course knows that it is not as beautiful as the common people thought.

The chief would scoff when they listen to stories of how the Chagai new chief was overwhelmed with emotion when the Khan respect his father so much that he then have the desire to surrender.

There must be some kind of agreement between the new chief of Chagai and the Khan for the Chagai tribe to surrender

And even when he surrender, the chief of Chagai unlike the other chief before, is allowed to command his men and his tribe and they were not incorporated to the Khan army.

Most of those tribes that fought against the Khan before were all integrated into the Khan unified army

But not the three tribes. Then what is the difference between Chagai tribe and the other tribe that the Khan had conquered before?

Strength

The Chagai, the Ultar and the Nergui tribe demonstrate strength and power.

And if Aeryon is insistent of fighting these three tribes to death, then Aeryon could get bogged down in a quagmire in the west.

If Chagai tribe really made up their minds, they could force the Khan to pay a great price in attacking the west.

Even if somehow the Khan wins, he would lose many of his forces and there is all kinds of complications that could happen.

Just because you conquer a tribe did not mean you could command their loyalty

Warriors of the Steppe could abandon their lord. It is not as strict as the Yan dynasty or the Western Zhou dynasty.

But there is also prerequisite for this. If the lord is incapable and the lord treats the warriors like a ragged cloth, then a warrior could simply leave such a person.

The new chief of Chagai is not such a person and there is no reason for the warriors that is loyal to the tribe and loyal to that chief would desert and Abdon such person.

And who would like a traitor. Those who abandon their chief is scorned by the tribes and look down upon

Only a few of those who betray their chief could gain immortal fame.

Loyalty has a place in the Steppe. It is just not stupid loyalty.

Look at Utgard. Garron had died and if those warriors under him had defected to the son and leave the tribe and join others, no one would call it a betrayal

But these survivors went to the Brolgadhr and seek the Khan to punish the killer of Utgard.

How loyal were these warriors were! The lord is death, but loyalty is not extinguished!

Greta leaders are revered and the warriors of the Steppe could distinguish those who wanted to use them and those who sincere with them

Hence, why the Steppe people never truly serve the Yan people with loyalty.

The Steppe warrior’s motto is very simple. If you want to use them, then they would also use them.

There is a reason why when the Steppe warriors fight against the enemies of these Yan lords, they run when the circumstances is against them

The Yan lords did not view them as the same race, did not want to treat them sincerely and when they failed their life is cheap in the eyes of those Yan people

Hence, why should one dedicate their life and death to such lords?

Since you want to use them, these Steppe people would also use them. Those who are treated sincerely will treat those people sincerely.

Yes, there is exception. There are ungrateful people. But most warriors of the Steppe are rarely like this.

To the people of the Steppe, it is fine to break oath with the people of Yan. After all, this is the same kind of people who massacre their tribes and kill their children and families and still is

But to do that in the Steppe, they would face condemnation from every tribe.

The only other way to restore a reputation and not be hunted by every tribe is to leave the region and enter another region of the Steppe, effectively exiling themselves away.

What this has got to do between the Yindir and IIdar tribe?

The fighting between Yindir and Ildar...it is a farce.

Before Yindir send his army and his warriors, the conclusion has already been written

No one knows this but when Yindir sent army to lldar, the Ildar chief did something that did not make sense

He send a messenger

Well, if that is the only thing he did, it would not be considered nonsense. After all, even with enemies on the gates, there is messengers

War is after all designed to get something that could not be gained through negotiation.

It is a simplistic way of viewing war but most wise leader went to war to gain something.

If it does not gain anything, even if they win the war, then that is just hurting oneself.

Whether it be peace, whether it be money, or whether it be for the safety of the people they governed or for the rulers to consolidate their rule, war must be waged as a last measure even if it’s for benefit

Because in a war, most people does not benefit. It only benefit a certain group of people and it would never benefit the people that has to die for the war

There is so many revolution that happened but in the end, the redistribution stopped and the common people get shafted again and again.

A wise ruler would always choose war as the last measure. Those who are used to using war would then be destroyed by it.

It is like that saying "It is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail."

It is precisely because of this, unless there is such irreconcilable feud, most rulers would still maintain some kind of communication between the two sides.

Total war is rarely a thing unless the tribe involved had no other way

Sending messenger to the other tribe even in times of war is not considered weird

In fact in the Steppe, envoys is not killed.

For whatever reason, envoy must not be killed.
