Chapter 829: Chapter 828: Standing Up for the Granddaughter-in-Law (14)
Damian Sinclair watched from the side and said, "Talia cried a lot today."
"I know." Bella Acker’s face showed guilt and regret, "I shouldn’t have been so harsh on her."
"That’s not why she’s upset," Damian Sinclair said. "I asked her, and she said, ’Mommy is all by herself and it’s so sad.’ She’s worried about you."
Bella Acker’s hand paused as she was smoothing the little girl’s hair, momentarily at a loss for words.
Damian Sinclair took her hand, pulled her up from the bedside and said, "The old man has left new pajamas for you here. Come on, go take a shower first."
"Okay." Bella Acker gently withdrew her hand from his palm, turned around, and picked up the pajamas placed on the single stool.
"I’ll take you to the bathroom," Damian Sinclair said, and walked out of the bedroom first.
Bella Acker glanced back at the little girl sleeping soundly, then followed him out of the bedroom.
Damian Sinclair led her through the corridor, reached the door closest to the balcony on the right, opened it and went in, turned on the hot water, then stepped out and said, "Go ahead and wash up. I’ll go check out my room."
"Alright." Bella Acker entered, closed the bathroom door, took off her clothes and stepped into the hot water, but instead of washing, her gaze turned somewhat pensive.
It’s not like she didn’t notice Talia’s fondness for Damian Sinclair, nor was she unaware of the little girl’s intent to match her with Damian Sinclair.
Sometimes she wondered, perhaps the little girl matured early and became clever because she felt she only had her mom, so she wished to grow up quickly to take care of her?
Bella Acker was lost in a whirl of thoughts in the hot water before she finally washed and changed into thick coral fleece pajamas, exiting the bathroom, ready to return to her room, only to find Damian Sinclair standing on the balcony.
"President Sinclair, not resting yet?" Bella Acker draped the towel for drying her hair over her hand and walked forward.
Damian Sinclair turned to look at her and said, "All the rooms, except for the one you’re in, are locked."
Bella Acker was taken aback upon hearing this, completely surprised that the old man had such a plan.
"What will you do then? You can’t really sleep in the hallway, can you? Drive back?"
"The old man hasn’t calmed down, leaving now would just upset him more." Damian Sinclair shook his head, pushed open the sliding glass door to the balcony and said, "The snow’s getting heavy."
Bella Acker walked over, indeed seeing the heavy snow, even the tree branches had started to be covered with a thin layer of white. She couldn’t help but sigh, "It’s been years since I’ve seen snow."
"It doesn’t snow where you lived abroad?" Damian Sinclair turned his head to look at her.
"No, the temperature there is relatively high, not too cold in winter either." Bella Acker looked out the window, a small smile forming on her lips.
Damian Sinclair inclined his head and looked at her, "Tell me about your life overseas."
"Life overseas?" Bella Acker turned her head to look at him, initially reluctant to talk, but faced with the earnestness in his eyes, the refusal caught in her throat and couldn’t come out. After a long pause, she lowered her gaze and turned her head back, saying, "There’s honestly not much to say, it’s quite dull—just studying and working. If there’s anything amusing, it would’ve been the funny misunderstandings caused by the language barrier when I first arrived. But once communication became possible, life wasn’t much different from here, just the same routine every day, nothing special."
"How long did it take you to learn to communicate in English?"
"A year, I guess." Bella Acker chuckled softly, "After all, living in such a language environment, being exposed to it every day makes learning a lot easier."
