Chapter 808: Chapter 807: Sorry, I Shouldn’t Have Lied to You
The little girl pouted. "No, I can’t. I have to help Mommy keep an eye on Daddy."
"Okay. Then you can live with Daddy from now on." Damian Sinclair lifted her into the child seat in the back, fastening her seat belt.
"That won’t work either." The little girl shook her head. "Mommy will cry if she’s all alone."
Damian’s hand paused. He asked, "When you were overseas, did Mommy often cry by herself?"
"Not really, Mommy was super busy." The little girl started counting on her fingers. "Mommy has classes, and she has to work. She’s busy busy every day, sometimes she only comes home in the middle of the night. But sometimes I see Mommy hiding somewhere by herself, wiping away tears. Daddy, you can’t tell Mommy, okay?"
She’s so stubborn—holding herself together in front of the kids, and only occasionally hiding away to cry. She must have reached her limit before she’d need to let it all out like that.
Whenever Damian pictured her crying, his heart ached in waves.
Damian rubbed the little girl’s head and said, "It’s because I didn’t take care of her."
The little girl shook her head. "Mommy can be fine without anyone taking care of her, but people still have to feel sorry for Mommy."
"Mm. Daddy promises you, nothing like that will ever happen again." Damian nodded, then suddenly gave a brief smile. He poked the little girl’s cheek. "Sometimes I really think you might actually be my daughter."
"How come?" The little girl blinked her big eyes.
"Because your mommy, aside from me, doesn’t look like she has any other man in her life. I checked, and I haven’t found her being close to any man." Damian poked her soft pink cheek again. "But your age doesn’t match up. If you were four, almost five, then you really could be my biological daughter."
The little girl widened her eyes at him at his words, suddenly staring roundly at him.
Damian asked, "What’s wrong?"
The little girl shook her head. "Just think Daddy looks too handsome. Daddy, kiss kiss."
Damian laughed and leaned his face toward her. The little girl cupped his cheeks and gave him a big, noisy kiss.
"Sit tight, we’re going home." Damian also kissed her on the forehead before going to the driver’s seat.
The little girl immediately took out her tiny phone from her little bag, wanting to call Mommy, but Mommy was definitely still mad at her right now.
Feeling a bit down, she sniffled. Should she call Little Uncle instead? But if she talks on the phone, Daddy will probably hear, right?
Mommy said she can’t tell anyone her real age; that’s a promise she’s not allowed to break.
But Daddy just said she might really be Daddy’s daughter.
The little girl forced herself to hold back the huge curiosity in her heart and went home with Damian Sinclair.
Meanwhile, Bella Acker and the others took a taxi back. As soon as they got home, she locked herself in her room and flung herself onto the bed.
Her mind was a mess right now, tears sliding down along the bridge of her nose onto the bedding.
Five years. She had thought everything had finally changed, but she never expected that after making such a big circle, she’d end up right back at the same dead knot.
Does she dare to like Damian Sinclair the way she did before? Is she really going to endure that kind of soul-deadening emptiness one more time?
She admitted it—she’d grown timid and afraid. That feeling of being completely unmoored, like her heart was being carved out raw and bleeding—she didn’t dare try it again. Because even after five whole years, she still hasn’t managed to forget that kind of pain.
Every time she walked a foreign street and saw a back that looked like his, she would subconsciously follow for a long, long way. By the time she snapped out of it, she’d already be in tears, crying like rain, her heart twisting with pain.
