Chapter 796: Chapter 795: Favoritism Breaks the Heart (Part 2)
Aunt Rhodes was taken aback by Bella Acker’s words. She was silent for a moment before saying, "Bella, I didn’t expect it to be like this."
Bella looked at her and said, "Aunt Rhodes, if you came today to apologize on behalf of Shirley Caldwell, there’s really no need. For your sake, as long as she doesn’t bother me anymore, I’ll pretend she doesn’t exist."
She had already made it clear to this extent, essentially indicating that she didn’t want any ties with Aunt Rhodes either.
Aunt Rhodes understood, a look of sadness and disappointment crossing her face. She lowered her head, squeezing the bag she was holding, and said, "I don’t love my current husband. In fact, after regaining my memory, I despise him greatly. But we already have three children together, and for their sake, I can’t divorce him to give them a complete family. I have failed you and your father. I never thought I’d see you again in my lifetime. I know you hold resentment towards me in your heart. I don’t dare to say I’ll love you well in the future because I know I’ve lost the right to do so. I just want to do everything I can to make it up to you. But I never expected..."
As she spoke, tears began to fall from Aunt Rhodes’ eyes.
Truly, her heart was the most burdened.
She lost her dearest husband and was deceived by his good friend for twenty years, eventually marrying him and having three children. What pained her most was that during those twenty years of amnesia, she had feelings for her current husband.
The two of them seemed to live lovingly for twenty years, but when her memory returned, it was like waking from a dream, realizing that all the happiness she thought she had was nothing but an illusion.
Every night now, she dreams of her ex-husband questioning why she betrayed their love, always waking up crying and unable to sleep again.
But all these burdens in her heart, she couldn’t find someone to confide in and could only keep them locked inside her heart.
Now, with two daughters at odds because of her, she’s caught in the middle, and no matter whom she sides with, it’s wrong.
Seeing Aunt Rhodes cry so sorrowfully, Bella Acker sighed and softly said, "Don’t be sad. What Shirley Caldwell did is on her, and I won’t hold it against you."
Aunt Rhodes paused, then asked cautiously, "Bella, then in the future... can I still bring Bonnie to see you?"
"Yes." Bella saw her crying, her makeup smudged, and although she couldn’t help feeling a bit soft-hearted because she was still her mother, "But when you and Bonnie come over, don’t let The Crawford Family know. I don’t want The Crawford Family to think I’m after their power and money."
"I won’t, I won’t. I’ll definitely be careful in the future." Aunt Rhodes immediately nodded, "And even the house I bought for you previously was with my earnings, having nothing to do with The Caldwell Family."
"But The Crawford Family won’t see it that way," Bella said. "Shirley Caldwell thinks I want to acknowledge you because I’m after The Caldwell Family’s money. Although I disdain such thoughts, I don’t want to be maligned either."
"I understand. I’ll be careful in the future." Aunt Rhodes said, "Bella, the company I run, I’m thinking..."
"Aunt Rhodes, I would be happy to have you and Bonnie come over for a meal at my place, but if there’s anything else, I think it’s best not to stay in touch."
Before Bella’s voice had completely faded, Damian Sinclair walked over, wrapping an arm protectively around her shoulder and said in a protective manner, "Mrs. Caldwell, Bella has me. Do you think she needs to care about your company or The Caldwell Family’s money?"
