Chapter 759: Chapter 758: Oh My Precious Darling (Part 1)
"It’s really fine, my studio will handle it." Bella took the keys from the table and put her mask back on.
The old man looked at her, "Young Acker, do you celebrities always cover your faces like this when you go out? It’s fine in winter, but in summer, won’t it cause a rash?"
"Not every time, it’s just that today’s situation is quite particular, not convenient for me to show my face in public."
"Am I making things difficult for you by calling? Oh my, if I had known, I wouldn’t have called you today."
"Not at all." Bella glanced back at the old man and sighed, "But next time, if you want me to have a meal with you, just say so. Don’t pretend to be sick. I really thought you had a bad fall today and worried for quite a while."
"Okay, okay, I won’t do that next time." The old man nodded quickly to assure her.
Bella turned back to close the door and helped the old man downstairs.
The farmer’s market was not far from the neighborhood; it was the busiest time for buying groceries. Bella helped the old man squeeze through the rows of stalls and finally reached the chicken vendor.
The vendor lady greeted brightly, "Hello, beautiful, what would you like?"
"Get me half a free-range chicken."
The vendor lady took a chicken down and asked, "Sure, do you want the neck or the head side?"
Bella turned and asked, "Old man, do you prefer the chicken neck or chicken head?"
"Chicken head."
"Alright, the head side for us, please. Don’t cut the chicken." Bella said while handing over the money.
The vendor lady chopped it with a few quick strokes, packaged it, and handed it over while complimenting, "Old man, is this your granddaughter? So filial!"
"No, she’s my granddaughter-in-law."
"Oh, that’s even better."
"Isn’t it?" The old man was particularly proud.
Bella looked at the old man helplessly as he pulled her aside to whisper, "I’m just bluffing a little; the vendor doesn’t know us anyway."
"You shouldn’t say that anymore. What if one day your grandson really brings his wife here, and people ask me, how awkward would that be?" Bella sighed.
"Alright, alright," the old man agreed verbally, but was thinking, it’s going to be you anyway when he brings his wife back, no worries.
The two squeezed among the bustling crowd of elderly grocery shoppers, bought some beef and veggies, and before leaving the market, Sharon Cheney’s call came in.
"Hello, godmother, have you arrived?" Bella answered the call while guiding the old man out of the market.
Sharon’s voice came through the phone, "Yes, we’re at the entrance of the neighborhood you mentioned. Tell us the building, unit, and floor, we can go up ourselves, no need for you to come out and meet us."
"No problem, I’m buying groceries here, just wait for me, I’ll be there in two minutes."
After hanging up, the old man eagerly asked, "Young Acker, has Talia arrived?"
"Yes, she’s at the entrance, let’s head back."
"Wait, I need to buy a gift for Talia." The old man looked around. There were many cheap goods sold on surrounding stalls, and some children’s toys nearby looked inexpensive and of poor quality.
For his dear great-granddaughter’s first gift, should it be so shabby?
If he had known he would meet his dear great-granddaughter today, he would have prepared ten or eight gifts for her at least. Or maybe just write a check? But that feels too tacky and might reveal his identity.
The old man was worried sick.
