Chapter 1243: Chapter 535: The Legacy of Dwarfs and Elves (Part 2)
I’ve known Teresa for over a decade. Now, the female sorcerer has fully matured and begun to stand on her own. In fact, neither Teresa nor Veronica are the kind of independent women who particularly need men’s support. They can handle their own affairs; for example, Veronica has achieved self-sufficiency after establishing the Wizard Tower with Laine’s help, and Laine has no longer been involved in the affairs of the Wizard Tower.
In this aspect, Teresa is slightly less capable than Veronica. Unlike Veronica, the female sorcerer does not understand "using influence" or, rather, she is less willing to handle things using her status as Laine’s lady-in-waiting, as Veronica does.
Laine, however, quite appreciates this about Teresa. Clearly, the female sorcerer intends to establish a branch on her own from scratch, and as an Ice Element sorcerer choosing to come to Brittania, she has made great sacrifices.
The sorcerer placed a thick book on the table. "This is the original Gailan’s Book."
Teresa then took out an equally thick old book and placed it on the table. "This is our Gailan’s Book. After comparing the two books myself, it turns out that more than eighty percent of the content is different."
Laine picked up the book and flipped through it, smiling wryly.
The origins of medicine in the Empire and the Old World countries are often believed to come from the work of High Elf scholars and medical master Gailan. A few years before Charlemagne established the Empire, the illiterate people of the Empire decided to fully inherit the numerous works left by the Elves, including a comprehensive medical encyclopedia recording herb locations and effects—Gailan’s Book, the most frequently cited source in the medical field.
However, two thousand years have passed, and all original manuscripts have been lost. No one knows the content of the first edition, nor whether countless copiers truly understood the author’s intent. Most of the content in the human-transmitted Gailan’s Book has been subjected to large-scale alterations, both benevolent and malicious. The version of Gailan’s Book circulating among humans is hardly recognizable anymore, yet humans still treat it as medical doctrine and do not permit questioning.
"According to Gailan’s theory, this is how we should treat it."
—Medical community’s "indisputable" statement
With the help of Laine and Tygris, Teresa managed to obtain the original Gailan’s Book from the Hos White Tower of the High Elf Safuri Kingdom. Moreover, Tygris also sent many research findings in medicine and magic accumulated by the High Elves over two thousand years. The female sorcerer hoped to relearn knowledge in this area and correct many issues.
"This is excellent, it will be a significant contribution to the history of medicine." Laine kept nodding, smiling. "I’ll have a word with the Merciful Goddess Church and ask them to cooperate with you... Lady Aurora should have taken a copy back to the Jialan Council?"
"Yes, Mother promised that she would not use High Elf materials for profit, but these valuable books will greatly help the council establish its medical system." Teresa said somewhat embarrassedly, "I forgot to tell you, I..."
"It’s okay." Laine shook his head, taking the female sorcerer’s hand. "Since it’s Tygris’s sharing, you and Veronica naturally have the authority to manage them. I can’t possibly manage every little detail, Teresa. I hope you can be like Aurora."
Unexpectedly, after Laine said this, Teresa’s eyebrows raised. "Are you saying I’m not as good as my mother? Or do you mean you appreciate my mother more than me?"
"I didn’t mean that, please don’t misunderstand." Laine chuckled and quickly said, "What I mean is that I have high hopes for your future, dear Teresa."
"Hmph~" The female sorcerer softly snorted, considering the matter brushed aside. She thought for a moment, then quietly held Laine’s hand in return. "Do you have time tonight? I’ve made quite a few interesting discoveries in Gailan’s Book, would you come over and listen to me talk about them?"
"Laine has to discuss military matters with me tonight, so he probably can’t come to you, Lady Teresa." Before Laine could respond, the sound of high heels clacked on the wooden floor, approaching. Lake God Witch Mogiana appeared. Today Mogiana wore an ivory cheese-soft, delicate oblique slit long dress, exuding an antique charm. In private with Laine, Mogiana’s aura became more serene and graceful. Her emerald eyes first focused on the hands held by Laine and Teresa, then scrutinized the female sorcerer’s attire.
Clearly, this woman had deliberately dressed up to see Laine! Of course, Mogiana knew that Teresa didn’t like wearing skirts or stockings, and only dressed this way when with Laine.
"Oh? Your Highness Mogiana, you’ve been ’discussing’ military matters with Laine for a week, haven’t you?" The female sorcerer mocked in a displeased tone. "Every time I come to find Laine, you always need to discuss military matters with him. A week’s time and you haven’t concluded anything yet?"
"The situation in war is inherently ever-changing." Mogiana sat directly beside Laine, her tone cold. "I have to continually simulate battle scenarios with Laine. This isn’t your area of expertise, is it, Lady Teresa? Besides, didn’t I let Laine stay over at your place the night before last?"
"That’s not the time allocation we agreed on!" The female sorcerer was unhappy.
"This is wartime; there’s no such thing as allocated time, everything serves victory! To reclaim Musillon, to fight for the Lady!" Mogiana countered, pointing out that this was wartime, not the time allocation agreed upon at the Thanksgiving feast.
