"Can I see the map, Hinako?" Venera asked as she looked around her, watching the technical team draw all kinds of lines across the vast wilderness of the north. A small sneak peek told her that this was definitely not your usual operation, even by the empire’s standards. It was for a reason that the far north of the empire wasn’t as inhabited as the rest of the empire.

It was extremely hostile, and not just because of the terrain. There were countless terrifying beasts that took that area as their home. Some are even said to be Tier 4 beasts that would tear entire armies into shreds not to mention the weather that could drop down to horrifying degrees at night or reach temperatures that could boil water.

All in all, the mountains of Sagardia were not a place where your average human could survive, and yet the Zatharis lived there, and they didn’t simply live; they thrived there.

"Of course, Your Highness." Hinako signaled for a group of workers to leave the table for a bit as they approached it. The map was huge, and there was a light under the table that made it shine.

It had impressive details of the terrain of that region, including all the peaks, their height, and notable areas.

"The region where the Zatharis live is still not fully confirmed, but we are working on scanning the area," Hinako said as she drew a circle on the map in a particular spot. "This is where we suspect their settlement is."

"I see..." Venera said. Judging from how nestled the spot is, she could tell that the Zatharis truly didn’t want anything to do with the rest of the empire, and that made her feel even more annoyed about this entire operation. However, she didn’t voice it and instead asked a different question.

"How long is the trip?"

"From here to that area? Around a week or so... That is..."

"That is?"

"That is using our Sonic cruisers," Hinako said.

’Sonic cruisers? Aren’t those extremely fast aircrafts?’ Rize frowned. ’If I remember correctly, they’re giant cargo planes that could somehow move at the speed of sound.’

Even though they were extremely fast, it would still take a week for them to reach their destination. That told Rize how utterly vast the empire is and, more importantly, how astronomically bigger this world is compared to Earth.

"Our initial idea is to take this route. It has been the same route that granted us access to the cave system alongside the middle area of the mountain range, which has a big opening."

"But?" Venera asked.

"But..." Hinako pursed her lips. "This path will almost certainly be ambushed by the enemy, and it will become quickly inaccessible. Our biggest problem is supply routes. If we can’t find sustainable supply routes, we won’t be able to push the operation forward."

’Establishing supply routes through a mountain... This is the military equivalent of suicide.’ Rize thought to himself. Even though he was no military expert, he knew that supply routes should always be safe, and most importantly, simple to navigate since the trucks and other cargo vehicles that will bring supplies will need to traverse them.

"And what’s the solution for that?" Venera asked.

"The solution is... A bit unconventional." Hinako said as she started drawing lines. "We plan to build fortified walls around each path and create what we would call ’A maze route’."

"A maze route, huh?" Venera asked.

"What’s a maze route?" Rize asked as he nudged Venera, whispering in her ear.

"They’re going to basically build tunnels through the mountain, and these tunnels will branch in all directions, creating many decoy areas and making the main route safe and unpredictable.

"That’s..." Rize frowned. ’Shouldn’t be possible for any normal military but... This is the Sagardians we are talking about. Their weakest awakened is several times stronger than your average soldier. That task was somewhat doable, albeit risky.’

"We still need to figure out how we will go about doing it, but that’s the initial idea," Hinako said.

"I see," Venera replied. "You’re probably more aware than anyone else how reckless this is, right, Hinako?"

"..." Hinako pursed her lips before she sighed. "I could never lie to you, Your Highness. We are facing difficulties. The assessment team keeps reporting to us how... complicated this operation will be. But we must do everything we can to protect our interests."

Venera saw the determined look on Hinako’s face, and she didn’t move at all before she sighed. "Fine. Can I see the training grounds now?"

"Of course."

Rize looked at Venera’s face, and he could tell that she wasn’t enjoying this at all, and he understood that. All these people were working tirelessly to make an impossible mission somehow possible, purely out of belief that the king is never wrong.

’Pitiful fools.’ He thought flatly as he followed after Venera. The group then took the elevator down.

Reaching the first floor, it kept moving as it went underground. Layers and layers of concrete that seemed to be at least a dozen meters long covered their vision for a bit. Eventually, a whole new world appeared before their eyes.

A massive underground chamber that stretched hundreds of meters in every direction. Countless soldiers were down there, training in groups. Some were jogging, others were in the gun range training their weapons, and the rest were practicing their gifts and swordsmanship.

"Wow..." Rize could only mutter in awe at the sight. ’This is the training ground? It’s ridiculous...’

The place felt so technologically advanced that it made the upper floors, which are already very futuristic, look like they were from the past.

As the elevator door opened, the group walked into the training grounds.

"We have already called for several troops from particular areas in the empire to be prepared for the operation. So far, we have around 40% of the troops needed for the operation available, with more coming in the next few weeks."

"I see..." Venera replied as she watched the soldiers training left and right.

"Everyone’s morale is high, and they’re determined to give their best for our nation. Even though things are complicated up there, these men are our hope." Hinako said. "We believe in them, and their ability to make the impossible... Well, possible."

"..."

’It is true that the human spirit cannot be measured with numbers and yet it still does miracles, but...’ Rize frowned. ’This is going to be so messy.’
