"So, anything new?" Rize asked as he prepared two cups of tea for them before he gave one to Venera. The girl sipped at the cup for a moment before she looked at Rize.
"I need you to come with me for a while." She said.
"Where?" Rize asked.
"Ever since my father declared war yesterday, our military has been active. They’re preparing for a very long and arduous expedition. I want to go check the situation there."
"Hm? Is your father fine with that?" Rize asked. Even though the military was technically a separate entity with its own leader, nobody really does whatever they want without the king’s order. He was the king for a reason, after all.
"Yeah, he wouldn’t care. I am simply going there to check the situation and the scale of... This operation." Venera said as she sipped from the cup again. "Are you coming?"
"Of course, I will go wherever you go," Rize said as he smiled. "Just like your shadow."
"My shadow is taller than me?" She asked.
"Magical," Rize said as he made a funny gesture with his hands, making Venera laugh. The two laughed for a bit before Rize stood up.
"Well, let me wear some clothes then before we leave." He said.
"Ok, I will be waiting for you outside." She said as she walked out.
Rize then changed his clothes into his work attire, which was basically just casual clothes and a spot where he could put his sword and other necessities. Looking at himself in the mirror, he nodded with satisfaction before he walked out.
"Are you ready?" Venera asked.
"Yeah, what do you think? Is this an appropriate attire for wherever we’re going?"
Rize had jeans, a half-sleeved shirt, and his sword on his back. He looked quite stylish, and it was only accentuated by his ridiculous looks.
Venera nodded her head. "You look good. Don’t worry about formalities. We’re just there for a visit anyway."
With that, the two left the palace and found the car waiting for them outside. It turned out that Venera had already arranged for the visit a while ago, so the military base was prepared to receive them.
The car drove into the city and headed toward a building that stood out no matter where you are in the city. A gigantic skyscraper that pierced the sky and towered over everything else. Its glass exterior reflected the light of the sun, making it appear even more dazzling and majestic.
That building, lying in the heart of the city, was the Main base of operations for the Sagardian Military forces. That includes the Royal Knights, the normal troops, and all the weapons of mass destruction that the empire produces on a daily basis.
"Woah..." Rize whistled with an impressed look on his face. The entire building was surrounded by large walls that protected it from the outside world.
They had to go through a security check to get in, and when they did, they found two people waiting for them outside. One was a middle-aged woman with the Royal Knights outfit on her and several sigils plastered on her chest, indicating her contributions, and the other was a slightly younger man with a military outfit.
As they walked out of the car, the two approached them before they bowed.
"Your Highness."
"Good evening, Hinako," Venera said. "Levian."
Acknowledging the two, she ordered them to lift their heads.
"When we heard that you’re coming to visit, we didn’t believe our ears. It is a great honor to have you here." The woman said with a respectful smile.
"Of course," Venera said. "Rize, this is Hinako, the chief in command of the Royal Knights, and that is Levian, the Head General of the common troops."
Rize nodded his head at them, and they nodded. At this point, everyone within the Royal Family’s entourage knew of Rize and his role, and they all knew his face, so he didn’t need any introduction.
’I know of the woman named Hinako. She isn’t a particularly strong awakened, but the fact she’s the chief in command is impressive. I remember it was said that she’s a military genius which got her that position.’
However, of course, she could only control the Royal Knights that work with her. The Generals were a completely separate entity that moved on their own and had their own mini-armies that they had full control over.
As for Levian, he seemed to be an awakened too, but ironically, he was the leader of the unawakened soldiers.
Rize, however, had never heard of him, so he made a point to remember his face just in case.
"Well, let’s go in."
The group walked through the sliding doors and found themselves in a whole new world. The reception area was huge, with workers going in and out in organized chaos. Rize looked up and could see how far the ceiling stretched. There was no roof over their heads.
"Welcome to ’Blue Moon’," Hinako said.
’Blue Moon is the name of this military base, if I remember correctly.’ Rize thought to himself.
"Would you like something to drink, Your Highness?"
"No, thanks. I’ve just had some tea." Venera replied.
’Made by yours truly.’
"Understood. Would you like to check our current progress, Your Highness?"
"Yeah, can we start with the technical team?" Venera asked.
"Absolutely, follow me."
Then, the woman led them to the elevator and tapped on the 75th floor. As the elevator started going up, they all had a view of the entire building along with stretches of the city outside.
"How is the situation, Hinako?" Venera asked.
"Well, we have been made aware of this potential operation days before the announcement, and we started our necessary preparations since then. It has only accelerated since yesterday. Our technical team has already mapped the entire Mountain region, and we are in the process of figuring out the optimal paths for supplies and for the invasion."
As she finished speaking, they found themselves on one of the higher floors and arguably one of the busiest. It was completely open, stretching for hundreds of meters in each direction. Countless people were working there on computers or talking around tables that had large maps on them.
There were many figures that showed the tactical aspects of this operation. It was incredibly loud.
"The progress is slow, but we are getting there," Hinako said.
As the group walked around the place, every single soldier or worker would stop and bow in respect. They had been made aware that the princess was visiting, so no one was shocked. However, they all had looks of admiration and awe seeing her from so close. It was like seeing a divine being walk past you.
"How long do you think it will take for the plans to be set up?" Venera asked.
"We need a few weeks, at least. The terrain there is particularly tough to navigate, and this is different from our previous operations there, whether it’s the scale or the goal."
’The earlier operations were like a few hundred soldiers at most. Now, it is potentially in the tens of thousands, so the human loss would be terrifying if they made a big mistake.’
In other words, the technical team had a very important task in their hands. Figure out how to bring the army to their destination safely.
