Chapter 98: Leonard’s Power

  • Next Chapter

Shortly after Ray deleted Reizen’s slot in his necromancy, he also canceled Lancelot’s summon.

Lancelot farmed enough experience points through the outbreak of the monster that had been swarming during their conversation.

It had gotten to the point where Lancelot could barely kill a monster or two that had come out.

Since that was the case, it was better for him to cancel the summon early on.

Who knows if Leonard might suddenly lock the entire space again?

That was truly freaking scary, where he nearly lost control of Reizen.

’Okay, note to self, don’t underestimate Leonard. An Eighth Circle Mage was considered the pinnacle in this world, or for the current timeline it is.’ Ray knew there were more power levels in Lord of Magic.

But as of now, Leonard was considered the top boss, even if he was injured.

’Sigh, this event wasn’t worth the effort.’ He thought to himself. He felt like he had been played by the system or that the actual point was still incomprehensible.

Aside from the fact that Midnight Specters were involved and that they wanted a portal outbreak in the academy, he barely knew much.

Not to mention, the gain wasn’t exactly worth the effort he had placed.

Before the Abyssal Dominion Core could level up or evolve, he wouldn’t even be able to devour any other skills for the meantime.

Yes, that was right!

He failed to devour any of Reizen’s abilities, not that the latter had anything valuable to begin with.

Nevertheless, it was still a bummer to work so hard for nothing.

This was no different than being a slave employee who worked their butts off for their boss, only for the boss to reap all the money and credit while you get none.

"Whatever, as long as I didn’t get caught and the story would still progress as it is." He pursed his lips and began to walk his way toward the auditorium.

His role was done for this aspect. The rest could be handled by the Principal and the others.

Why should he dabble in such muddy water anymore?

...

Underground Portal

While Ray made up his mind, Leonard and the rest proceeded with the remaining corpse.

"Clark, do you recognize this student?" Leon pointed at the corpse and asked.

Since Clark was able to recognize Reizen, surely he would also have some clue about this student.

"Sorry, the face had been disfigured beyond recognition." Clark shook his head.

Although Reizen’s undead appearance was hideous, their face was rather intact to be discerned.

The other corpse, in the meantime, was tortured terribly, and the methods used were very brutal.

"Do a proper investigation later on their background," Leon commanded before his robes fluttered slightly.

There was wind coming in their direction despite being underground.

Only one explanation could be made here.

"Looks like the portal has an outbreak." He frowned.

"A portal outbreak?" Margaret was startled. The consequences of an outbreak were unimaginable. If they failed to contain the monsters, the whole campus would be overrun.

Of course, she wasn’t worried because the Principal was present.

"The rest of you stay outside and continue the ceremony. I’ll remain here to suppress the outbreak." Leon declared. His action shocked the others.

They didn’t anticipate being ordered to leave when they had all made their way here.

However, none dared to raise any objection when they understood the tone of the usage wasn’t a suggestion. Instead, it was a statement—one that couldn’t be challenged.

"We’ll leave the matters in your hands, Principal." Cowell was the first to agree. As someone who believed in the Principal’s prowess, he didn’t doubt his ability one bit to suppress a portal meant for academic purposes.

"Since Cowell said it like that, I’ll also leave." Clark chimed in. He was never fond of fighting; otherwise, he wouldn’t have chosen to become a professor.

"You two—" Margaret was flabbergasted until someone else also interrupted.

"My presence is no longer needed here. I shall return to the Young Master’s side." Belva bowed her head slightly and informed them.

"Ugh, I’ll follow you then." Margaret pursed her lips. "I’ll give him an earful for that slacking and lazy nature of his."

With that being said, everyone else left except for Leonard.

’I don’t know who’s behind this, but they better clean their necks.’ Leon clenched his fist. This blatant provocation when he sustained a heavy injury for the world’s order was extremely disgusting, to say the least.

Moreover, these new students were bound to be the new generation of protectors. To harm them was equivalent to snapping the world’s bloodline.

In the blink of an eye, Leonard arrived at the portal outbreak.

Despite the vast room, it was nearly filled to the brim with monsters.

’A battle had occurred. Who could it be?’ He narrowed his eyes and frowned deeply.

His first suspect was Raymond, but then that wouldn’t make any sense.

He had personally checked them last night and didn’t detect any foul stench aside from a confusing magic core.

While Leonard was slightly confused by the ordeal, the agitated monsters soon locked eyes on him.

Their eyes glowed crimson red as they screeched and growled furiously.

In the next second, they all charged ahead, threatening to slash Leonard into multiple pieces.

"Hah, did my presence grow that weak?" Leon clicked his tongue.

BOOOM!

He instantly unleashed his terrifying aura. The monsters were immediately suppressed and frightened by his new presence.

Their legs shook violently, with those in the front nearly fainting from the mana pressure alone.

"I would kill you all, but you’re all needed for the new students," Leon commented and pointed at the portal. "Return to the portal, and you may live for now. Otherwise, only death awaits!"

As soon as his statement was done, nearly all the monsters fled toward the portal and no longer chose to charge outside.

Needless to say, some monsters remained adamant and refused the threat.

They ignored the warning and continued their attack.

Alas, they didn’t even get close before their entire bodies were mutilated.

Blood scattered across, but none landed on Leonard’s as they were deflected by his passive barrier.
