The two women refused almost in unison, but Wang Chenning wasn’t annoyed. He just chuckled softly.

He said no more and focused on driving.

As they neared the Li family’s old estate, Wang Chenning received a text from Wang Liqing saying they had returned and were awaiting his summons.

Wang Chenning texted back, "We’ll have a late-night snack together later. Rest in your room for now!"

"Brother Ning, you’re being way too low-key, aren’t you?" After the car stopped, Li Mingchao stared speechlessly at Wang Chenning’s ride. "This car is only worth three hundred-some thousand. Doesn’t that clash with your status?"

"Ford’s performance is pretty good, and this one’s a seven-seater. If I want to take a bunch of people out for fun in the future, it’ll do the job." Wang Chenning replied with a grin. "Sometimes, it’s fun to flex by being low-key. A few days ago, I was driving this car when I ran into a few idiots. They actually blocked my car and tried to start a fight. One of those idiots was even from the Bai family!"

"What?!" Li Mingchao’s eyes lit up. "Then what happened?"

Wang Chenning chuckled. "Of course, I taught them a proper lesson!"

Li Mingchao asked again, full of curiosity, "And Bai Qianxun didn’t have any reaction?"

"Logically, he should have responded to these two incidents, but he’s done nothing. You could even say his lack of response *is* his response—and a big one at that." Wang Chenning clapped Li Mingchao on the shoulder and said meaningfully, "He’s probably getting ready to make a big move!"

"I heard he’s already out of the hospital and back home," Li Mingchao said carefully. "Brother Ning, do you want to arrange a meeting with him?"

At Li Mingchao’s question, Wang Chenning’s face lit up in a grin. "How about this? Tomorrow evening, Li Fuzhen and Li Yanxian are arriving in Yandu—they’re the matriarch and the new-generation princess of Shanxing. You and I will go to the airport to pick them up, and you can ask Bai Qianxun if he’d be willing to join us for dinner."

"Okay!" Li Mingchao grew even more excited. "I’ll visit him tomorrow morning and ask if he’d like to join us for dinner."

Wang Chenning said nothing more.

Yang Xiaofei and Zhao Xiao’an stood beside them, arm in arm, but neither of the women interrupted with any questions.

Li Baoguo had already showered and changed into his pajamas.

Seeing Wang Chenning, he came forward with a hearty laugh. "Chenning, I’m so sorry to call you over this late."

Then, looking at Yang Xiaofei and Zhao Xiao’an in surprise, he added, "Xiaofei, Xiao’an, what brings you two here at this hour?"

"Wang Chenning promised to treat us to a late-night snack, so we tagged along!" Yang Xiaofei pointed at Wang Chenning. "This guy is always breaking his promises. We were afraid he’d bail on us, so we have to keep him on a tight leash!"

Zhao Xiao’an, on the other hand, said, "I heard Elder Li was feeling unwell, so I came with Chenning to pay a visit. We came in such a hurry that I didn’t have time to prepare a gift!"

"Thank you both for visiting in the middle of the night!" Li Baoguo laughed heartily. "Please, sit and have some tea!"

He then told Li Mingchao to brew some good tea for Yang Xiaofei and Zhao Xiao’an and to prepare some fruit for them as well.

After agreeing, Li Mingchao scurried off eagerly to get everything ready.

After Li Mingchao walked away, Wang Chenning told Li Baoguo about what the group had discussed earlier that evening.

Li Baoguo’s smile widened as he listened. "It’s wonderful that you young people are willing to work together. That’s a good thing, of course. Now that you’ve committed, make sure you do it right. If you run into any difficulties, just let me know. I can still handle most things."

Wang Chenning immediately expressed his gratitude. "Thank you, Elder Li!"

Afterward, Wang Chenning performed a treatment on Li Baoguo that lasted over forty minutes.

During the treatment, Li Baoguo asked about the conflict between Wang Chenning, Bai Qianxun, and Zhang Guoping. Wang Chenning didn’t go into detail, just offering a vague, two-sentence reply.

Li Baoguo then brought up the Wu family, saying they had never been on good terms with the Zhao family and that they should watch out for them causing trouble.

Wang Chenning thanked him again.

When the treatment ended, Li Baoguo fell into a deep sleep. After tidying up, Wang Chenning prepared to take his leave.

As he was leaving, Wang Chenning tossed Li Mingchao a small box containing pills.

He added one more line: "This will last you thirty days!"

Li Mingchao understood Wang Chenning’s meaning and immediately put the pills away safely.

On the way back, Wang Chenning told Yang Xiaofei and Zhao Xiao’an that he would be treating two other girls to a late-night snack shortly and asked if they wanted to join.

"Who else did you make plans with?" Yang Xiaofei retorted. "I’d love to see just who is worthy of being treated to a late-night snack by the Great Divine Physician Wang."

Zhao Xiao’an was also curious. "Who are you treating to a late-night snack?"

"A couple of chicks from Japan who share my surname."

Wang Chenning’s answer left both Yang Xiaofei and Zhao Xiao’an stunned.

Yang Xiaofei and Zhao Xiao’an didn’t know the full story behind Wang Chenning recruiting Wang Liqing and Wang Liyu.

However, they were tactful enough not to press the issue.

Wang Chenning didn’t take the women out to eat. Instead, on the way back, he stopped at a nearby barbecue stand, bought a heap of ingredients, and swiped the necessary seasonings.

"I’ll treat you all to a barbecue I’m making myself. Personally cooking you a late-night snack—that shows enough sincerity, doesn’t it?"

These two women had been shadowing him all evening, and Wang Chenning was curious to see what exactly they were up to.

One thing Wang Chenning was sure of: the two women were guarding against each other, each afraid that if she left, he would run off to do something romantic or scandalous with the other one.

’Looking at them now, they seem to be getting along quite harmoniously. As expected of classmates with a good relationship.’

’How great would it be if they could always get along this harmoniously in the future...?’

Wang Chenning led the two women to his apartment.

As the three of them were heading upstairs, they saw that Wang Chongjiu had already returned from his social engagements.

"Grandpa, I was starting to think you weren’t coming home again tonight!" Wang Chenning grinned, teasing Wang Chongjiu. "I was hoping to go see the city lights with you these past couple of nights, but you’ve been too busy."

"It’s not often I get to come to Yandu. I have to see a few old friends and ask them to look out for you!" Wang Chongjiu said cheerfully, his eyes moving from Wang Chenning to the two beautiful girls behind him, then to the barbecue ingredients in his grandson’s hands. "Preparing a late-night snack?"

"Two more friends are coming over. We can all eat together then!"

Wang Chongjiu didn’t object.

A short while later, Wang Liqing and Wang Liyu arrived as instructed.

They had assumed Wang Chenning would be alone in the apartment and were surprised to find other people there.

Wang Chenning didn’t introduce them by name. He simply told Zhao Xiao’an, Yang Xiaofei, and Wang Chongjiu that these two women were his personal retainers, recruited in Tokyo and sworn to die for him.

Wang Chongjiu was stunned but was discreet enough not to ask any questions then and there.

"I’m letting you meet them because I trust you. Besides, you’ll be interacting with them in the future, as they’ll be handling many of my affairs." After telling Wang Liqing and Wang Liyu to go prepare the ingredients, Wang Chenning turned to remind Yang Xiaofei and Zhao Xiao’an, "I expect you to keep this a secret. If word about them gets out to anyone else, I’ll have no choice but to hold you two responsible!"
