Ugly, Fat, and Vicious? My Five Beast Husbands Are Obsessed Anyway
Chapter 221: Killing Three Birds with One Stone
Chapter 221 -223: Killing Three Birds with One Stone
Hei Feng walked closer for a look. Seeing the Salt Well was bottomless, he said hesitantly, “The salt has dissolved into the well. How are we going to get it out?”
Su Nuannuan saw the earthen pit and guessed Su Luoluo must have poured the saltwater in there. ‘But how did she get the water out?’
But even though she didn’t know how Luoluo had managed it, she wasn’t without her own methods.
She glanced at the pottery jar she had brought. “Find a vine, tie it to the jar, and scoop the water out.”
“That’s a great idea.” After hearing this, Hei Feng immediately put the members of the Black Pig Tribe to work.
Su Nuannuan looked at the “ruins” Su Luoluo had left behind, then pointed at the earthen pit. “Pour the water we scoop up in here.”
‘Since Su Luoluo has already done all the work, why shouldn’t I just use it?’
‘Su Luoluo would never have imagined that something she worked so hard to create would end up being used by me!’
A wave of smug satisfaction washed over Su Nuannuan at the thought.
The pottery jar was much heavier to pull up after being tossed into the Salt Well.
It took several Black Pig Beastmen working together to barely manage to pull it up.
After a few tries, however, the pottery jar cracked, leaking a good amount of water.
Seeing this, Hei Mao muttered in a low voice, “If we were using the Wolf Clan’s pottery, it definitely wouldn’t crack. Theirs is so exquisitely made.”
Hearing this, Su Nuannuan shot him a fierce glare.
When Hei Mao realized Su Nuannuan was unhappy, he immediately fell silent.
Watching the water leak out, Su Nuannuan couldn’t help but knit her brows. “What, haven’t you eaten? If you’re not strong enough, get more men on it.”
‘It’s only a few wells, and with so many people in the tribe, how could they possibly lack the strength?’
Hearing her words, the tribesmen immediately added a few more Beastmen to the task.
Slowly, the earthen pit filled with a considerable amount of water.
A Black Pig Beastman discovered that after the water drained from the earthen pit, the remaining salt was too heavy to lift once packed into a Beast Skin Bag. He asked Su Nuannuan, “Leader’s Wife, this salt is too heavy. What should we do now?”
‘Didn’t Su Luoluo just pack her salt in Beast Skin Bags after the water drained away?’
Su Nuannuan frowned at the sight of the cumbersome salt.
‘I didn’t expect handling this salt would be so troublesome.’
Seeing they couldn’t possibly carry it all, she had no choice but to refine the salt on the spot.
But that would expose their location.
‘Actually, this could work,’ Su Nuannuan thought.
‘It’s a perfect opportunity. I’ve been wanting to get rid of the Wolf Clan anyway.’
‘Killing three birds with one stone. Perfect.’
With that in mind, she said to the members of the Black Pig Tribe, “Go gather some firewood. Set up the pottery jars. We’ll purify the salt right here before we leave.”
Hei Feng was stunned to hear Su Nuannuan wanted to purify the salt on-site. “Nuannuan, didn’t you say you were worried about being discovered? That we should purify the salt back at the tribe?”
Su Nuannuan smiled and whispered in Hei Feng’s ear, “This way, the Salt Well will be ours. Hei Feng, with all this salt, we’ll be able to trade for so much more with other tribes.”
Hei Feng’s face lit up with approval. “Nuannuan, that’s a brilliant plan! We can just sit back and watch them fight it out.”
Su Nuannuan had watched Su Luoluo purify salt with crystal clarity, memorizing her entire method. It didn’t take long for her to extract the salt crystals.
When Hei Feng saw that Su Nuannuan had actually purified the salt, he couldn’t help but sweep her into a hug and exclaim, “Nuannuan, you’re a genius! This salt is even finer and whiter than the salt purified in the city-states!”
It wasn’t just Hei Feng who was delighted by the salt Su Nuannuan had purified; the members of the Black Pig Tribe also looked at her with renewed worship.
“The Leader’s Wife is incredible! We won’t lack for salt anymore!”
“The Leader’s Wife is amazing!”
“The Leader’s Wife is amazing!”
The cheers of the Black Pig Tribe sent another wave of smugness through Su Nuannuan.
‘This was the life she, Su Nuannuan, was meant to live.’
After a full day of work, the Black Pig Tribe returned to their own territory, their bags laden with salt.
Meanwhile, in the Wolf Clan Tribe, Su Zhao had collapsed into sleep the moment he returned.
This left Hong Shuang with no way to pry for information.
Su Luoluo and her Beastmen had also had a busy day and returned to their rooms to sleep.
Su Luoluo had Mo Xuan deliver the salt directly to the Ring-tailed Lemurs. When they received it, they were once again filled with awe. ‘Ever since we accepted Su Luoluo as our leader, our lives have been getting better and better. The Priest really has a good eye. It’s just a shame he’s not in the tribe right now, off helping the leader with something.’
Su Zhao gave the Wolf Clan’s share of the salt to Su Yang.
Remembering what Su Luoluo had said, Su Yang didn’t distribute the salt. Instead, he placed it in the storeroom and hid it away.
Even though the tribe was now eating separately, he decided it was best to have the females come and collect it themselves.
‘If Hong Shuang really is a problem, it’s best to be on guard against her.’
Having acquired the salt and exhausted from the day’s labor, the tribe was unusually quiet.
It wasn’t until the afternoon that Su Yang realized something was wrong.
The Wolf Beastman who had gone to patrol the Salt Well Cave still hadn’t returned. Su Yang hurriedly sent a few more to investigate. When they came back, they were carrying a body. This sudden turn of events put him on high alert.
He sent for Su Luoluo.
Su Luoluo was shocked to see someone who had been with them just that morning was now dead. “Father, what happened?”
Su Yang shook his head, his expression grave. “I don’t know either. Yi De said they found traces of a fire inside the cave. It looks like someone discovered the Salt Well.”
Su Luoluo’s brow furrowed at his words. “I’m going to take a look.”
With that, she called for Luan Ting to join her. When her other Beastmen saw Su Luoluo and Luan Ting leaving the tribe, they followed as well.
Su Luoluo first went to check Sheep Waist Valley. Finding nothing out of the ordinary, she then headed to the Salt Well Cave.
The inside of the Salt Well Cave was soaking wet, completely different from how they’d left it. ‘Considering how long we’ve been gone,’ she thought, ‘the ground should be bone dry by now, not damp like this.’ On top of that, there were traces of a fire.
Su Luoluo said with a frown, “It seems this group doesn’t just know how to collect salt—they know how to purify it, too.”
She crouched down and wiped at the ash on the ground. She recognized it instantly. “This is wood ash.”
‘In this entire Beast World, who else besides me knows how to use wood ash?’
‘Could a new transmigrator have arrived?’
‘No, wait… there is one other person.’
As Su Luoluo was lost in thought, a sudden fierce wind swept past. In the next instant, Xiao Ye yanked her aside and lunged into a fight with an attacker.
Hiding behind Xiao Ye, Su Luoluo could finally see clearly: over a hundred Jackal Beastmen were flooding into the Salt Well Cave.
Her other Beastmen quickly joined the fray.
The Fire Jackals had come in large numbers, including several at the Fifth Rank. Xiao Ye and his group were not having an easy fight, but they weren’t letting their opponents gain the upper hand either.
Luan Ting’s leopard paw scraped lightly against the ground as he fixed the jackal beast before him with a sharp gaze. “Feng Huo. Long time no see. So you’ve stooped to launching sneak attacks.”
“Don’t make it sound so ugly, Luan Ting,” Feng Huo retorted. “A prize like the Salt Well… didn’t you keep it a secret and occupy it for yourselves? We’re just here to take what’s rightfully ours.”
Xiao Ye’s purple eyes turned cold. “Enough talk. Bring it on!” he hissed, flicking his forked tongue as a murderous glint flashed in his eyes.
Feng Huo’s pupils contracted. In an instant, he transformed into a massive Fire Jackal and lunged at Xiao Ye.
Xiao Ye whipped his tail toward the Fire Jackal, coiling it around its neck.
The Fire Jackal Tribe had brought many fighters, and everyone else was occupied fending them off.
Protected behind Xiao Ye, Su Luoluo was uninjured. She watched the two sides clash with great interest.
Suddenly, a fiery-red bird swooped down from the sky, hurtling toward Su Luoluo.
“Watch out!”
Before Su Luoluo could even react, she was snatched up and carried away.
