Chapter 176: Chapter 178: Su Nuannuan’s Bad Luck

A few days ago, the Black Pig Tribe went hunting. After eating a wild fowl, members of the tribe began falling ill one after another. Some only coughed up a mouthful of fresh blood before dropping dead on the spot.

Seeing so many people die in succession, the Black Pig Tribe was thrown into a panic. They all ran to the Holy Fire to pray, begging the Heavenly God not to punish them.

To this end, Hei Feng organized a grand ceremony to pray and repent to the Heavenly God, promising that he would be even more devout.

The ceremony lasted for three days and three nights, yet the death toll in the tribe only continued to rise.

The men he sent to find the Witch Doctor had not returned, and the entire tribe descended into chaos.

Su Nuannuan looked at the utter chaos in the Black Pig Tribe with disdain. ’If Su Yang were in charge, he would have dealt with this ages ago.’

’I’m so unlucky. I’d only enjoyed a few days of peace, and now this happens.’

’Besides, what’s the use of praying to the Heavenly God whenever there’s trouble? The last time I begged so piously for his help, he didn’t lift a finger, did he?’

’Better to rely on yourself than on others.’

’Even though I don’t know how those people died, the way they’re collapsing one after another makes it obvious there’s something wrong with their bodies. This isn’t normal for Beastmen.’

That night, as Hei Feng’s reeking mouth moved to press against hers again, Su Nuannuan raised a hand to stop him.

’How can he possibly be in the mood for *that* at a time like this?’

’I have no idea how Hei Feng ever became the leader.’

Seeing Su Nuannuan stop him, a flicker of annoyance crossed Hei Feng’s face. "What is it? Not feeling well again?"

Ever since they’d become mates, Su Nuannuan was always getting sick. He couldn’t tell if she was faking it or not.

He could only mate with her once every three days, and Hei Feng felt that no Beastman in the tribe was more frustrated than him.

He had finally managed to wait three days, and now Su Nuannuan was actually stopping him.

Su Nuannuan heard the impatience in Hei Feng’s voice, but she truly couldn’t bear the stench from his mouth.

’After mating with him just once, I feel like my whole body starts to stink.’

’It’s as if his stench marinates right into me, from my mouth to my skin, and I can never wash it off.’

’I have to bathe for ages, basically scrubbing my skin raw before the smell finally goes away.’

Plus, she couldn’t get her face completely wet at the moment. She always bathed while Hei Feng was out, but because her baths took so long, he would sometimes return and catch her.

To avoid contact with Hei Feng as much as possible, she could only use physical weakness as an excuse to push him away.

Most Beastmen wouldn’t take kindly to their female pushing them away like this.

But Su Nuannuan was confident in her beauty; she was the most beautiful female in the tribe. Hei Feng wasn’t interested in anyone else, so he had no choice but to relent.

And Su Nuannuan’s gamble had paid off. Hei Feng knew she was in poor health, so even though he was resentful, he didn’t force her.

This time, however, Su Nuannuan didn’t nod. She fell silent for a moment, her expression growing grave. "Hei Feng, there’s something I’m not sure if I should tell you."

Seeing her unusual expression, Hei Feng nodded quickly. "If you have something to say, just say it."

"With so many people in the tribe dying, one after the other... why don’t we move somewhere else?" Su Nuannuan suggested, privately suspecting that the land the Black Pig Tribe was on was bad. Otherwise, why would people be dropping dead one after another?

"Move somewhere else?" Hei Feng asked, confused. "But this is a good place to live. Why the sudden need to relocate?"

’Good?’

’Eight people died today alone.’

Su Nuannuan suppressed the urge to roll her eyes and continued to persuade him in a patient, gentle tone. "Eight people died today. It looks like some kind of poison. If we move, maybe the deaths will stop."

Hei Feng was swayed by her words, but he was still reluctant. He had grown up on this land. After his Father died, he had inherited the position of leader. He had lived on this land for twenty whole years, and making the decision to suddenly leave was difficult.

"If we leave without any preparation, we won’t even know where to go. Besides, so many people have died, and I haven’t even held their funeral rites. It’s too hasty to leave now."

"Forget the dead. We leave tomorrow. As for where to go... the continent is vast. There’s bound to be a place for us somewhere."

"Nuannuan, how can you say that? Those who died were Black Pig Beastmen! They were like my own family!" Hei Feng said, stunned by her words.

Su Nuannuan sighed internally but kept her patient expression. "I know you’re reluctant, but several people died in a single day. Doesn’t that suggest there’s something wrong with the bodies? If you touch them now, you might catch this disease yourself. I’m thinking of everyone’s safety. What if we all get sick? The entire tribe will be wiped out. Sometimes, you have to sacrifice the few to save the many!"

’Su Yang often did that. When the floods came, he would always tell everyone not to carry too many things. That’s why the Wolf Clan Tribe rarely suffered losses during the floods.’

Su Nuannuan was now using the same logic to persuade Hei Feng.

"But we won’t have any food," Hei Feng said, still stubborn despite Su Nuannuan’s lengthy persuasion.

Seeing how stubborn he was, Su Nuannuan could only resort to an ultimatum. "If you don’t agree, then I’ll leave the Black Pig Tribe."

"Don’t! Fine, I get it," Hei Feng relented, hearing her threat to leave. "I’ll notify the tribe tomorrow."

Seeing that Hei Feng was still angry, Su Nuannuan closed her eyes, mustered all her courage, and kissed his cheek.

Su Nuannuan rarely showed any initiative. No matter how angry Hei Feng had been, seeing her move first made his anger dissipate. His eyes burning with desire, he immediately pulled her into an embrace and went to kiss her lips.

"Nuannuan, you’re so beautiful. Let me light a fire so I can see you!"

While enduring his foul breath, Su Nuannuan refused. "No, you know I’m shy. If you light a fire, I won’t be able to go through with it."

Hearing this, Hei Feng had no choice but to drop the idea.

Every time they mated, Su Nuannuan never allowed him to light a fire. She was remarkably innocent and shy.

「...」

As soon as Hei Feng announced their relocation, many of the tribesmen objected.

They felt that being asked to abandon their dead companions was a betrayal of their own kind.

This reaction was within Su Nuannuan’s expectations. She pointed to the bodies and said, "Those few were all near each other yesterday, which is why they were all infected. If we don’t leave, we might catch the sickness just like them. At that point, the entire Black Pig Tribe will be wiped out. I’m doing this for everyone’s good."

Hearing this, the tribespeople’s objections began to waver. Hei Feng then spoke up:

"If you all still see me as your leader, then listen to me. We’ll move out for now. Once the poison is gone, we will return to bury our fallen companions."

At this, the tribespeople had no choice but to agree.

And so, the group moved out of Fengqi Mountain, heading south.
