Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Do You Believe in Love at First Sight?
The Director’s Office.
It served as a safe room within the game. By the time Su Yunzhou and Miaomiao arrived, the other two groups were already waiting at the scene.
The young couple was currently bickering, likely having encountered a similarly designed moral-choice plotline. The guy was offering pitiful apologies, while the girl looked utterly indifferent—making for a rather comical sight.
Meanwhile, the hapless guy and the cartoon-like girl were discussing the upcoming plot. Seeing the two of them appear, the hapless guy asked carelessly, "Man, why did it take you guys so long?"
Su Yunzhou waved the medical records in his hand. "We ran into three NPCs, so it slowed us down a bit."
"Ah." The hapless guy wore a teasing smile. "Then you guys really have terrible luck."
After a brief chat, everyone brought out the props they had found and began solving the final puzzle.
The medical records, the doll, and a bloodstained diary.
The cartoon-like girl picked up the medical records and analyzed them. "This girl is named Qianqian, and she suffered from heart disease..."
The hapless guy scratched his head. "I found a diary, but only the first two pages are legible. It records the details of a little girl’s life in the hospital while waiting for a heart transplant..."
The guy from the young couple held up the doll and spread its palms open. "There’s nothing special about mine, except that the left and right palms have the names ’Qianqian’ and ’Qianqian’ written on them respectively."
At that moment, the cartoon-like girl seemed to transform into a little Detective Conan, her tone completely serious. "Wait! I’ve found the truth!"
"What?"
"What was the name mentioned in the phone recording we heard in the first stage?"
"Qianqian?"
The hapless guy’s brain started working. He thought for a moment and said, "But how can you tell the two ’Qianqian’s apart?"
"That’s not important. You need to think about it from a different angle," the cartoon-like girl said. She paused her words, seemingly giving everyone a chance to think. In reality, as an ordinary-looking, anime-loving medical student, her favorite moment when playing a murder mystery game was right now—using her intellect to crush these attractive but empty vases.
"So that’s it!" Su Yunzhou was the first to realize, a faint smile on his face.
The young couple was whispering to each other, their minds completely elsewhere.
Seeing everyone’s thoughtful expressions, Miaomiao also put on a look of sudden realization and offered a compliment. "Yunzhou, the design of this script is quite interesting."
"Yeah," Su Yunzhou nodded.
Seeing that it was about time, the cartoon-like girl felt a deep sense of satisfaction. "Let’s go! We’re going to clear the final stage," she said, her tone slightly excited.
"Charge!"
Only the hapless guy responded as everyone continued onward.
The third stage was set up like a turn-based game. The final boss was the perverted Director who sparked the wrath of both humans and gods. By using the clues and props they had gathered, the players could obtain various weapons to defeat him. This part of the game design was slightly childish, but it was still quite fun to play.
In the end, the perverted Director was vanquished by a single strike from the hapless guy wielding the Big Treasure Sword. Holding the weapon, he swung it back and forth majestically, feeling incredibly good about himself.
Miaomiao glanced at him and thought, "Sure enough, boys all love playing with ’swords’."
The storyline completely concluded.
The perverted Director was turned to dust. The soul of the daughter, Qianqian, was laid to rest, and in the final moments, the mother who had turned into a malevolent spirit forgave the Director’s uninformed daughter, Qianqian. The two girls, whose names sounded identical but whose destinies were worlds apart, achieved the ultimate reconciliation, bringing the story to a grand, happy ending.
Over three hours had passed without them realizing it.
Su Yunzhou and Miaomiao walked out of the murder mystery shop.
Outside, the sun and moon were already sharing the late afternoon sky. Miaomiao said in a sweet voice, "Yunzhou, I know a delicious Japanese barbecue place around here. Want to go try it?"
He was actually starting to feel a bit hungry, so Su Yunzhou nodded in agreement.
Clinging affectionately to Su Yunzhou, Miaomiao led him upstairs to a restaurant boasting a distinct Little Life style. The waitstaff were all dressed in kimonos and had an exceedingly respectful attitude, perfectly portraying a fraction of the servility ingrained in the bones of the Little Lives.
To be honest, aside from a faint fondness for a certain subset of Little Life "teachers" who had once given him hands-on virtual instruction, Su Yunzhou looked down on all other Little Lives from the bottom of his heart. Take the kimono in front of him, for instance. To put it bluntly, it was just a thin quilt and a pillow strapped to the back—something concocted by their monarch during turbulent times to encourage procreation. Yet nowadays, it was glorified beyond belief.
Utter nonsense!
Led by the waitress, the two entered a small tatami private room with a charcoal grill situated in the center. Taking a seat required taking off their shoes. Fortunately, neither of them had smelly feet, otherwise, they really wouldn’t have been able to stomach this meal.
Actually, Su Yunzhou was genuinely baffled by the whole "taking off shoes" thing. He really wanted to ask the waitress, "If you encountered a customer with foot odor comparable to a biochemical weapon, how would you handle it?" But on second thought, he let it go. After all, there was no need to ruin his own appetite.
Since Su Yunzhou had never eaten here before, he let Miaomiao order. She meticulously asked if he had any dietary restrictions before picking up the iPad. Going TAP TAP TAP on the screen, she ordered a table full of food.
"Yunzhou, do you want something to drink?"
Su Yunzhou shook his head decisively. "No, I drove here!"
"Uh..." Miaomiao felt a bit helpless. She really wanted to say that she could call a designated driver for him, but in the end, she just ordered two special fruit drinks instead.
Seeing how familiar she was with the place, Su Yunzhou casually asked about it. Miaomiao replied in her sweet, delicate voice that she had done promotional work for this restaurant before. The food was fantastic, though the prices were slightly high. Of course, in Yunzhou’s eyes, that was just pocket change.
Her words were quite interesting. They not only elevated Su Yunzhou’s status but also subtly hinted that she was willing to make an effort for him. Su Yunzhou chuckled, playing dumb despite understanding her perfectly. After spending a few hours together playing the murder mystery game, he knew exactly what her true intentions were. The only reason he was willing to play along was that he truly had nothing better to do, and secondly, he wanted to see just how far women these days would go. To put it bluntly, he was just spending money for amusement—and besides, he hadn’t even spent any money yet.
A short while later.
Plates of exceptionally exquisite food were brought to the table. At first, Su Yunzhou thought Miaomiao was being extravagant and wasteful, but looking at the portion sizes, he felt it might not even be enough to fill them up.
A waitress knelt in the private room, grilling some sort of premium A-grade Wagyu beef that was sliced as thin as cicada wings for them. Meanwhile, Miaomiao began introducing the food.
"Yunzhou, try this caviar. It’s their specialty here."
"Alright." Su Yunzhou nodded. To him, this kind of "high-end" ingredient was nowhere near as satisfying as a few solid pieces of meat.
With graceful movements, Miaomiao opened the chilled caviar. Using a mother-of-pearl spoon, she carefully scooped out a portion and placed it on the back of her hand, right over the web of her thumb. Seeing Su Yunzhou’s curious expression, she felt a flicker of confusion. She had learned this method from a pretentious second-generation heir she met previously; the body heat from the web of the hand was supposed to release the caviar’s aroma. She was deliberately eating it this way to prove she was a woman who had seen the world. But why was he looking at her with such a strange expression?
In the end, Miaomiao braced herself and elegantly licked the caviar off her hand. Her licking motion couldn’t help but remind Su Yunzhou of a certain female lead, renowned for her oral skills, from a video with Chinese subtitles.
After the waitress finished grilling the more difficult dishes, she respectfully took her leave.
Su Yunzhou focused on eating. But Miaomiao kept finding every opportunity to slide in little questions. They were all open-ended, forcing Su Yunzhou to constantly pause his chopsticks to answer.
At this moment, he suddenly felt a pang of nostalgia for his usual dining partner.
Somewhere along the conversation, Miaomiao pouted her pretty little lips and asked, "Yunzhou, do you believe in love at first sight?"
Su Yunzhou’s expression froze. It wasn’t because the question was hard to answer, but because he felt a smooth, playful bare foot gently brushing against the skin of his calf. He looked up at her.
Miaomiao’s beautiful face was dusted with a faint pink blush. Her gorgeous eyes were brimming with affection and a hint of provocation, like a pool of spring water that appeared calm on the surface but surged with hidden currents underneath. She pursed her lips again and blinked her large eyes, her voice soft and sweet.
"Yunzhou."
"Do you believe in love at first sight?"
