Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Money Can Make the Devil Push the Grindstone

Miaomiao’s words were actually quite calculated. Following normal logic, a man should express care or be moved at this moment. After all, a delicate girl like her had accompanied him on such a "thrilling" activity.

However, as a pay-to-win rookie who completely ignored the rules of the game, Su Yunzhou was like a wild novice blindly pummeling a seasoned veteran.

He nodded nonchalantly.

"I can tell!

"You’re a coward... and you’re..."

Su Yunzhou didn’t finish the second half of his sentence. After all, it was a bit hurtful.

Miaomiao choked on his words, suddenly at a loss for what to say. The ambiguous atmosphere in the cabinet vanished instantly, leaving only a lingering sense of awkward confusion in the air. Seeing Su Yunzhou’s indifferent expression, Miaomiao couldn’t help but grind her back teeth.

She wondered, "Why are the tricks that always worked flawlessly in the past completely useless on him?

"I’ve been so proactive!

"What else do you want from me? What do you want?"

After her internal rant, Miaomiao adjusted her mindset and cheered herself on.

She thought, "Operation: Secure Mr. Su.

"It must succeed."

The two waited for another moment. Su Yunzhou tentatively tried to pull his arm away, only for the frightened little bunny to hug him even tighter.

It was just like life. Since he was powerless to change it, he might as well face it with a smile.

After the footsteps outside faded away, the two of them emerged from the metal cabinet. Su Yunzhou peeked out the door. Once he confirmed it was perfectly safe, he led a strangely conflicted Miaomiao into another hospital room.

This ward was largely the same as the previous one. They searched it thoroughly but still came up empty-handed. There were no key items to be found.

As the escape room’s scenario passed the halfway mark, the Bloody Doctor began to roam the hallway more frequently. He had clearly grown agitated, swinging his bone saw wildly and constantly emitting ear-piercing noises.

Since this was a sound-driven NPC, they just had to follow standard game logic. Su Yunzhou found a half-empty plastic IV bottle in the room. He shot Miaomiao a subtle look that said, "Get ready to run." Taking aim, he hurled the bottle toward the opposite end of the corridor.

THUD.

As expected, the Bloody Doctor staggered toward the source of the noise. Seizing the opportunity, Su Yunzhou and Miaomiao darted into a ward further down the hall.

Glancing around, they found only an empty hospital bed in this room, flanked by an oxygen tank and scattered first-aid equipment.

"This is the emergency resuscitation room!"

Miaomiao followed closely behind Su Yunzhou, her large, doe-like eyes scanning the area. She suddenly noticed that everything in the room was broken—except for a perfectly intact pillow.

"Yunzhou, there’s something weird about that pillow."

Su Yunzhou instantly caught onto her train of thought. He took a few steps forward, picked up the pillow, and gave it a gentle shake. His eyes lit up.

"There’s something inside."

It didn’t take much effort to tear the pillow open. Inside, they found a pale blue medical folder—undoubtedly the key item needed to clear the stage. But before they could examine it closely, loud bells suddenly blared throughout the entire ward.

RIIING!

This was immediately followed by a chorus of monstrous roars.

ROAAAR!

AROOO!

The two swiftly rushed to the door. Outside, they saw that two monstrous female nurses had joined the Bloody Doctor.

The nurses’ faces were a mangled, bloody mess, looking absolutely terrifying. Extending their pitch-black fingernails, they lunged toward them with menacing claws.

"Run!"

Su Yunzhou let out a bizarre yell, grabbing Miaomiao as they sprinted toward the final room.

Miaomiao barely managed to keep up. She thought, "Money really does buy ’special care’ in this place."

The duo burst into the room and quickly locked the door. They discovered a shaft leading upward, but the iron ladder inside was so narrow that only one person could climb it at a time.

This design was clearly intentional.

Miaomiao instantly immersed herself in her role. "Yunzhou, you go first! I’m too slow..."

At the same time, the door rattled violently from the outside.

BANG BANG!

The three monsters had clearly arrived.

"You go up first. I’ll buy us some time," Su Yunzhou said calmly.

As he spoke, he pushed Miaomiao toward the iron ladder.

Miaomiao’s eyes brimmed with indescribable gratitude. Her large, doe-like eyes stared affectionately—or rather, lustfully—at the broad back of the man who strode to the door to cover her escape.

Gritting her teeth, she stepped onto the iron rungs, swaying her plump, curved hips as she struggled up the narrow shaft.

This scene of a beautiful woman fleeing for her life would undoubtedly be a major selling point if it were in a low-budget web movie.

However, after climbing to the top and looking back down, she was entirely dumbfounded, standing there like a stunned Masami. It took her a long while to snap out of it. Her lips twitched slightly.

She thought, "This actually works?

"This is the absolute pinnacle of absurdity..."

Down below, the three terrifying NPCs who had just been lunging at them like bloodthirsty beasts were now standing obediently by the door. Wearing fawning smiles, they were enthusiastically taking commemorative photos with Su Yunzhou.

Miaomiao felt like she had climbed that ladder for absolutely nothing. She silently slid back down and asked, wearing a baffled expression, "Yunzhou! How did you do that?"

Su Yunzhou chuckled. "Money talks, even to ghosts."

He had remembered a joke he’d seen online and decided to give it a try. To his surprise, it actually worked.

He thought, "As expected, money can solve 99% of all problems!"

He had offered them three hundred yuan each just to take a group photo. Since the three NPCs worked in the service industry, how could they possibly refuse such a reasonable request from a paying customer?

After snapping a photo with each of them, Su Yunzhou addressed the three "ghosts" again.

"Alright, let’s resume. You guys step back a bit and then slowly come at us."

"You got it, bro!"

"Bro, we’ll do it in slow motion."

"Have fun, you two."

Miaomiao’s expression froze. What did he mean by "resume"?

The three monster NPCs sensibly retreated a long distance down the hall.

Seeing Miaomiao spacing out, Su Yunzhou reminded her, "What are you standing there for? Run!"

Miaomiao looked somewhat exasperated. "So, I have to climb it again?"

"Yes!" Su Yunzhou nodded. "Climb it again."

This time, the "web movie leading lady" delivered a rather lackluster performance. Her climbing motions weren’t nearly as elegant as before.

Still, Su Yunzhou watched very attentively. After all, opportunities to appreciate the view from this angle were rare.

Once she reached the top, Su Yunzhou didn’t hesitate. He swiftly climbed up after her, shouting toward the hallway as he went.

"That’s about right!

"You ’ghosts’ can come over now to build up the atmosphere!"

AROOO! ROAAAR!

Several bizarre shrieks immediately echoed from outside. Right on cue, the whirring of the bone saw, heavy footsteps, and the sickening screech of claws scraping against the walls erupted all at once.

The terrifying atmosphere was instantly restored.

Watching the obedient "ghosts" do their jobs, Miaomiao felt a wave of sheer helplessness. At the same time, she was incredibly dissatisfied with the "special care" the JK-uniformed girl had promised her. She decided she was definitely getting her money back!

A short while later, after watching the two VIP guests depart, the three NPCs finally stopped their pursuit.

The Bloody Doctor, whose voice sounded quite young, said happily, "It’s been a long time since we met such a generous customer."

One of the nurse girls chimed in, "I know, right! That guy is both rich and handsome."

The other nurse hesitated. "I recall the third boss telling us to scare the living daylights out of them! Is it really okay for us to do this?"

The Bloody Doctor pointed at the security camera on the wall. "You forgot? This thing hasn’t been fixed yet. Besides, if you don’t say anything and I don’t say anything, who’s going to know?"

The two nurse girls shared a knowing look and mimed zipping their lips shut. The three of them exchanged smiles.

Everything was understood without another word.
