Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Chance Encounter

The young nurse looked up.

"Wow..."

"So handsome..."

Looking at the handsome face frowning in worry, her attitude toward serving him noticeably improved.

She explained, "There’s nothing wrong with the report. A few days ago, Director Zhao of the department said she wanted to use your medical examination report as a reference, so she borrowed it. She also instructed us nurses to tell you to just go find her when you arrive."

"Phew..." Su Yunzhou patted his chest. Fortunately, it was a false alarm. "Which office is Director Zhao in?"

"Just a moment." The young nurse made a phone call.

A moment later.

"Director Zhao is in Room 303. You can go straight there."

"Thank you!"

After politely thanking her, Su Yunzhou walked toward the elevator.

Room 303. Andrology Department.

Looking at this name, anxiety crept onto Su Yunzhou’s face once again. He wondered, "Why would my medical report be used as a reference in the Andrology Department? There shouldn’t be any problems! Although I chickened out at the end last night, going at it several times a night is still pretty impressive, right?!"

Whenever a man had to deal with this particular department, their internal sensitivity would multiply exponentially.

Su Yunzhou adjusted his mindset and knocked gently.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

"Please come in!"

The voice sounded familiar. After pushing the door open, he realized he actually knew her.

"Director Zhao, it’s you!?"

Sitting by the desk was the medical examination doctor he had met once... no, the doctor who knew him inside and out—Director Zhao. She wore a faint smile and was flipping through a medical report. Seeing Su Yunzhou, she pushed up her glasses.

"Have a seat!"

After sitting down, Su Yunzhou said, "Director Zhao, I’m here to get my medical records."

Director Zhao nodded and asked in return, "Why didn’t you accept my WeChat friend request?"

"Huh?" Su Yunzhou paused. "Did that happen?"

Director Zhao picked up her phone and pulled up her QR code. Her display name was Stepping on Snow in Search of Plum Blossoms.

"Ah." Su Yunzhou was startled. So "Stepping on Snow in Search of Plum Blossoms" was Director Zhao. He then glanced at the name tag on her white coat—Zhao Xuemei. "Sorry! I rarely add strangers, and I did ask who you were, but you didn’t reply, so..."

Director Zhao looked a bit confused. She tapped on her phone for a while before a look of realization dawned on her face. "I’m not very good at using this. Because of the secret filming incident last time, I wanted to add you on WeChat to thank you."

Su Yunzhou waved a hand. "It’s nothing. A creep like that deserves to be punished by the law."

Hearing this, a smile touched Zhao Xuemei’s lips. "The police contacted me a few days ago. They said that guy is a repeat offender. They found a lot of secretly taken photos and obscene videos on his phone’s cloud drive and computer, which he even sold for profit. Now, they’ve already..."

After hearing her out, Su Yunzhou clapped his hands in satisfaction. They chatted for a bit before Director Zhao spoke again.

"There’s no problem with your medical report. You’re in great health. I was originally planning to treat you to a meal to show my gratitude, but I couldn’t get you on WeChat. My niece happens to be here today as well, so why not seize the moment? How about we have a casual lunch together?"

Su Yunzhou was still thinking of how to decline.

CREAK.

The door was pushed open.

"Aunt Xuemei, let’s go!" Jiang Shiyue walked in. Seeing someone there, she assumed it was a patient and instinctively went to step back out, but let out a gasp of surprise when she clearly saw the person’s face. "Ah! You... why are you here?"

Su Yunzhou looked at Jiang Shiyue standing before him. She was wearing a black knit top paired with a matching pleated skirt that revealed legs straight out of a manga, along with white sneakers. Her hair was as wild and unruly as ever. He scratched the back of his head and said, "How come it’s you?"

Director Zhao Xuemei looked at the two of them speaking in unison. "What? You two know each other?"

Su Yunzhou smiled awkwardly.

Jiang Shiyue curled her lips. "You could say that."

Zhao Xuemei revealed a kind smile and thought to herself, "This is destiny. I was just saying I’d play matchmaker for them, but the Matchmaker has already tied the knot."

If Su Yunzhou could hear her inner thoughts, he would definitely tell her that the one pulling the strings wasn’t the Matchmaker, but Tong.

Zhao Xuemei pointed at Su Yunzhou and introduced him. "Yueyue, this is the brave young man I told you about last time. I’ve invited him to join us for lunch."

Jiang Shiyue recalled her aunt mentioning this incident a few days ago, even saying that although the young man was a bit impulsive, he was young and handsome. She just hadn’t expected the idiot who spent money to smash a phone to be Su Yunzhou.

She thought for a moment, figuring that this meal should fall within the scope of their agreement, and immediately nodded in consent.

"Let’s go! We’ll go eat at the ’Alleyway Pork Intestines’ place across from the hospital." After saying that, she asked, "You don’t happen to be avoiding this type of food, do you?"

Su Yunzhou shook his head to indicate there was no problem.

The three of them left the hospital together. They walked out the main entrance, crossed an intersection, and turned into a small alley.

The alley was full of life and hustle and bustle, mostly filled with eateries, along with a few shops selling fruit and sundries. At the very end was a wig shop. Alleyway Pork Intestines was located right in the middle. Business was booming, with quite a few diners sitting at the entrance waiting for a table.

The owner was a middle-aged man wearing a white apron. He had many wrinkles on his face, and when he smiled, he looked like a crumpled wild chrysanthemum.

Su Yunzhou initially thought they would have to wait a while. However, upon seeing Zhao Xuemei, the owner appeared extremely happy and said that if they didn’t mind, they could eat in the staff dining area outside the back kitchen.

"Dr. Zhao, is it just the three of you? Are you ordering from the menu, or should I put some dishes together for you?"

Zhao Xuemei nodded. "You can just put some dishes together for us, but let me make it clear—if you refuse to charge me, I won’t eat here."

The owner gave a helpless smile. "I’ll give you a discount, just a discount."

Noticing Su Yunzhou’s slightly puzzled expression, Jiang Shiyue explained in a low voice, "In the past, the owner’s child fell ill. The situation was very bad. They were running to the hospital every few days and spent a lot of money.

"Seeing how pitiful they were, Aunt Xuemei helped them out a lot, both openly and secretly. When it was finally time for the surgery, she even mobilized the department and the hospital to donate money..."

Hearing this, Su Yunzhou could almost picture those scenes in his mind. Coupled with how she had disregarded her own safety to catch the creep filming people last time, a sense of genuine admiration for Zhao Xuemei welled up from the bottom of his heart.

Nowadays, doctors with such kind hearts and excellent skills were truly a rarity.

Times were progressing, and medical technology and environments were improving as well, but when it came to the cost of medical treatment... that was a matter of perspective. A major illness dragging down an entire family was a common occurrence. In a hospital, the bottom line of human nature would constantly be lowered over money. Many seemingly unbelievable things would become logical, albeit unfeeling, when looked at from a different angle.

Some people would say that earning more money was enough to afford medical treatment. But in this world, where would you find that many wealthy families? Furthermore, there were many strange diseases that couldn’t be cured no matter how much money one had.

Thinking of this, Su Yunzhou couldn’t help but feel glad for the child who had met Dr. Zhao. He immediately asked, "How is the child doing now?"
