Twin Treasures: The CEO Wife's 99-Day of Revelations
Chapter 1859: The Old King Seems Angry
Bertie was stunned for a few seconds at the question, "What did you say?"
"..." Facing the old king’s gaze, the general dared not repeat what he had just said.
Bertie stared at him for a full minute, "I really didn’t expect you to ask such a question."
This response made General Vance’s heart shiver, his mind a bit chaotic, momentarily unsure of what to say.
The old king seemed angry.
But for his daughter, for his only daughter, he would try his best.
"King Louis is like a light in Nina’s life, the only one who can pull her out of the darkness of depression. Please, for the sake of my lifelong loyalty to you, please approve this marriage!"
As soon as the words fell, General Vance bent his knees and knelt before him.
"No." Bertie didn’t even think about it, rejecting it outright with a serious tone—
"Feelings shouldn’t be treated as transactions! You’ve devoted yourself to the royal family, and the royal family has given you the compensation you deserve—your title, your salary, and your family’s worry-free livelihood for the rest of their lives!"
"You saved my life once, and when I wanted to reward you at the time, you declined, yet you can still ask for something now. But wanting Winnie to marry Louis, I’m the first to disagree!"
"..." General Vance did not expect the old king to speak so firmly, leaving no room for discussion.
Bertie also realized his tone was a bit harsh. He put down the tea cup and stood up. As a father, he could understand General Vance’s feelings.
Thus, he changed his tone and spoke again, "Feelings, they must be mutual love, not charity, and certainly not pity."
The old king halted his steps and looked down at him, "So regarding Winnie’s matter, I’m helpless too. Please stand up!"
Finding no hope with the old king, General Vance didn’t want to waste time.
He slowly stood up, looking dejected.
But to hold onto this one light for his precious daughter, he decided to personally seek out King Louis for a talk.
"I understand." General Vance saluted sadly, "I’ll be leaving now." He turned and walked away after speaking.
Bertie watched his departing figure and sighed, never expecting him to seek his son.
At this time, Trevor and Janelle were taking wedding photos, choosing the front yard of a historically romantic castle, surrounded by serene greenery, and their makeup and attire were very forest-themed.
Janelle, wearing a light green wedding dress with a wreath of woven fresh flowers on her head, exuded a fresh and artistic vibe, with a lovely, sweet charm.
Trevor also opted for less formal attire, leaning more towards a casual style.
This made the photos feel warmer.
Ian Shelby and Jocelyn came over to admire, the photography team specially served the Lorelei royal family, and their skill was absolutely top-notch.
So the photos turned out exceptionally well.
At this moment, General Vance had arrived at King Louis’ palace entrance. The servants told him the king was out and didn’t know when he’d return, so he decided to wait there.
About an hour later, Louis returned alone.
General Vance spotted him immediately and quickly gathered his thoughts, organizing his words in his mind, having just hit a wall, and couldn’t let this only hope slip away.
"General Vance?" Louis, seeing him, couldn’t help but feel a bit strange, as it was evident General Vance was waiting for him.
"Hello, Your Majesty." The middle-aged man saluted him, "I’ve been waiting for you for an hour, may I have ten minutes of your time? I have something important to discuss with you."
