Ian Shelby packed up the equipment, a smile on his lips, glanced at everyone and instructed, "After discharge, you still need to rest more. Try not to overuse your brain. I’ll provide some additional guidelines then."

After speaking, he carried the equipment and walked away.

Old Mills didn’t even have the chance to say ’Thank you, Dr. Shelby.’ He had already left and even closed the door behind him.

Carlotta Sterling was also a bit in a daze.

Earlier, Ian came in without mentioning the results of the DNA test to the couple. He began the examination as soon as he entered, leaving them unsure whether to ask directly or not.

Old Mills noticed the form in Trevor and Janelle’s hands and softly asked, "What’s going on?"

Trevor thought for a moment and handed the test results to him.

Carlotta’s gaze was fixed on her daughter’s face. Janelle met her eyes and walked over with the test results, handing them to her.

Carlotta hesitated to reach out; she steadied her nerves and slowly extended her hand to take the document, her gaze falling directly on the last line.

She suppressed a slight trembling in her heart, her eyes reflecting a hint of despair, mingled with a tinge of sadness.

Janelle is Dr. Shelby’s biological sister...

Silence enveloped the ward; quiet enough to hear a pin drop, as if everyone held their breath, and even breathing seemed painful.

Janelle Mills could sense her parents’ complicated emotions, and she was momentarily at a loss for words.

After considering for a while, she stated calmly, "I won’t leave you. You will always be my mom and dad. My love for you will never diminish."

She was capable of doing this.

Carlotta holding the identification report looked at her daughter after hearing these words but wasn’t moved, as such a large truth lay before her, and there was always the possibility of losing her daughter.

Carlotta feared the Lorelei royal family, and Dr. Shelby’s calmness earlier was indeed puzzling.

"Come on, come on, don’t be so serious." Janelle smiled as she bent down to hug Carlotta, then turned to hug Old Mills, "I won’t leave you! Really!"

Ian Shelby never came in again during the rest of the time.

He visited different wards, caring for and attending to the patients. Dressed in his white coat, he was graceful, handsome, professional, and sunny.

Around four in the afternoon, he finally had some free time and, upon entering his office, took out his phone to message Jocelyn: What are you doing?

Receiving these four words, Jocelyn Morgan couldn’t help but smile, as the underlying implication of those words was— I miss you.

[Just finished writing the novel, about to go downstairs for a bit] she typed and sent her reply.

Ian didn’t respond immediately, interrupted by a phone call, so she added another message: Is the hospital busy today?

Soon, he replied: Not too bad, finished now. How about a meal together this afternoon? I’ll come to pick you up.

Jocelyn was thrilled at the prospect of seeing him again and readily agreed.

After wrapping up the chat, she deliberately took a shower, chose a new white, waist-hugging dress that accentuated her figure, applied light makeup in front of the mirror, prepared her bag, and waited happily for Dr. Shelby to appear.

She knew he was outstanding, and she was striving to become outstanding too, having recently accepted a new script and was attempting to work as a screenwriter.

She would not depend on him; she would be independent and strive to be remarkable.

By evening, just as Ian picked up Jocelyn, a taxi pulled outside the Morgan family’s residence, and Bertie, formally dressed, stepped out holding two gift bags, gazing at the villa bathed in the setting sun.
