Treasure Hunting System: The Ocean Conquerer
Chapter 1321 - 522: Calamity of Flesh and Blood (Part 2)
On the deck of the steel ship stood an elderly figure wearing a military coat.
Though he was an old man, his energy and vigor made him seem lively. His hair was a blend of black and white, and his beard had some black strands mixed in.
A smoking pipe dangled from his mouth.
Smoke continuously billowed from his lips.
With eyes not typical of old age and full of intense emotion, he stared at the distant island.
"Bishop, we have failed. We’ve conducted ten rounds of bombardment, yet we still haven’t stopped the slow advance of the island. According to calculations, it’s even accelerating, and the pace will only get faster."
Upon hearing the report from behind, the old man nodded.
His gaze towards the distant Flesh Island became pensive.
"Have the people from the Secret Spellcasting Council arrived?"
Responding to the old man’s question, the person behind him nodded.
"We’ve already seen traces of their ships. They should arrive soon."
Hearing this, the old man nodded again.
Then the scholar from the Holy Machine Church behind him thought for a moment and said, "Our scout ships have also reported that the Compass Eye Treasure Hunting Team has arrived."
Upon hearing this, the old man couldn’t help but let out a heavy sigh.
He grabbed his smoking pipe, took a deep draw, and the white smoke he exhaled even obscured his face.
"Ah, such a disgrace." The old man shook his head helplessly.
Then turned around.
At this moment, not far from the group, Alka with the Sound of Dawn was quickly sailing towards them, and from afar, they had already seen the full view of the Flesh Island.
"How disgusting! Yuck!" Lucilia, sitting on Alka’s shoulder, couldn’t help but feel nauseous and retch at the sight.
She loathed scenes where twisted flesh gathered together, making her feel entirely uncomfortable.
She wished she could fly over and set this mass of flesh-like island ablaze.
Although they had previously seen this scene in Alka the Knight’s visual display, the actual site’s visual impact was far more real than any mirror image could be.
And certainly much more sickening.
More importantly, the images they had seen in the mirror dated back one or two months.
Though there hadn’t been much change, it seemed more swollen than before.
"What a loss it is for such a Landmark Island to turn into something like this?" Juanlu remarked, unable to contain himself.
They were aware that the flesh-like island originally was a Landmark Island.
Although not as notable as Southern Cross Island or similar landmark islands, nor as significant as Ascension Peak.
Its importance was at least better than Southern Cross Island, a border landmark island.
And now, it was destroyed and occupied by flesh monsters, so the loss was imaginable.
Especially during the Demon Invasion period.
"We can only wonder how this flesh distortion came to be; it’s hard not to suspect the demons," Jason commented from the side.
Indeed, in times like these, a Landmark Island captured by flesh eruptions turning into such a powerful creature, anyone would instinctively think it was the demons’ doing.
Especially when the shadow of the Overshadowing Mouth is lurking around, conveniently in places like the Tower of Trial.
If they hadn’t known that the Overshadowing Mouth was far away from here, they would have believed it had a hand in this place’s occurrence.
It’s a stereotype that any strange mishap gets attributed to the Overshadowing Mouth.
As they gradually approached the island, an Ironclad Ship arrived, guiding them forward.
Soon, their ship slowly anchored, stopping centrally among these fleets. Ahead should be the flagship of these fleets, a massive steel ship.
It was twice, even thrice the size of the Sound of Dawn.
The main thing was the surrounding arsenal on this steel ship, making it look like a floating armed fortress.
Then the ship slowly approached, and everyone boarded this steel flagship.
They saw a gray-bearded old man approaching.
Though he appeared elderly, his stride was vigorous and imposing, his demeanor full of presence, and his frame tall and robust.
If not for his truly elder-like appearance, it’d be hard to call him an old man.
"Master Alka? It’s a pleasure, I am Bishop Safleff from the Holy Machine Church here."
Alka nodded, shaking hands with the old man.
"Nice to meet you."
He then couldn’t resist pointing towards the flesh island, "If you don’t mind, could you explain the situation?"
Though he had anticipated it, Alka was utterly puzzled about the specifics, and it was evident some major chaos had occurred.
Otherwise, such a significant problem wouldn’t happen at a location with a Holy Machine Church chapel.
Upon hearing this, Bishop Safleff couldn’t help but sigh and nodded.
"Ah, it all comes down to our negligence."
Just as he prepared to give Alka’s group a brief account, a scholar dressed in Holy Machine Church robes approached.
"Bishop, the team from the Secret Spellcasting Council has arrived."
