Transmigrated as the Villain Boss's Precious Darling
Chapter 757: Paying Respects to Crazy Master
Mrs. Green frowned. Her daughter had suffered for ten years, yet she hadn’t seemed to learn a thing. ’In any case, I have to convince her to drop this idea of divorce. At her age, why is she still fussing over love and romance? Does she really think she could marry someone better than Ethan Hawthorne?’
’If such a perfect man really existed, I’d drag her to file for divorce and then get her remarried without a second thought.’
A few more days passed, and Mrs. Green was thriving in Millstone Peak. She was far more sociable than Rosalind, and within days, she had hit it off with Raina and the other old women. They were already calling each other "sister" and getting along splendidly.
Moreover, Mrs. Green was no longer worried about her daughter’s living situation. For the past few days, they had been feasting on fish and meat daily. Back home, she might buy a pound of meat at most, but her grandson, Adrian, would bring back several pounds at a time. He would cook a huge pot of meat, and they would finish it all in one sitting. Her culinary skills were being put to good use here. Tang Xiaonan and her brother often came over to get a free meal. That boy, Jim Thorne, in particular, had a massive appetite. They never had to worry about leftovers. Even the last drops of soup were sopped up with the crispy rice from the bottom of the pot and eaten clean.
At first, Mrs. Green had been worried about their food supply, but her fears were put to rest when she saw the large sacks of rice in the house. It seemed her daughter’s life had truly improved. She wanted for nothing when it came to food and drink. The house itself was a little shabby, but it was kept neat and tidy, and once you got used to it, it felt quite pleasant.
’But a divorce is still out of the question.’ Mrs. Green’s opinion on the matter remained firm and unswayed.
The happy days passed quickly. In the blink of an eye, Mrs. Green had been in Millstone Peak for about ten days. She had planned on returning home, but Rosalind couldn’t bear to see her go, and Tang Xiaonan showered her with sweet words to convince her to stay. Truth be told, Tang Xiaonan couldn’t part with the delicious braised pork—Mrs. Green’s was the best she had ever tasted. Coaxed and pleaded with by the two of them, Mrs. Green, who hadn’t been very eager to leave anyway, decided to stay for a few more days.
That day, Adrian Hawthorne wheeled out his bicycle, getting ready to go into the city. He had to bring Tang Xiaonan with him. The last time they spoke on the phone, Old Man Feng had said he would be arriving in Vessaria today, and Adrian was taking Little Fatty Tang to see him.
"Why didn’t you tell me sooner? I wanted to bring a gift for Uncle!"
The moment Tang Xiaonan heard Old Man Feng was coming, she got angry and thumped Adrian a few times. If he had told her last night, she could have prepared a gift. What was she supposed to get ready in such a rush?
"I’ve already prepared everything. You just need to show up."
"That’s not the same! Your gift is from you, and my gift is from me. I’m going home to catch a chicken."
Tang Xiaonan sprinted home. She was planning to catch a chicken, grab a couple of pieces of cured pork and some dried fish, as well as some preserved duck, dried loach, and other things. Jim Thorne wasn’t at school; he was studying with Old Master Tate and was at home doing his lessons. As soon as he heard what was happening, he wanted to come along too.
"Grab that fat one. I’ll get it."
Jim Thorne hopped into the chicken coop and deftly caught the fattest speckled hen. He tied it up with a rope, tossed it into a burlap sack, then rounded up the cured pork and dried fish before heading into the city with them. Along the way, they ran into Clayton Xavier, who was walking at a leisurely pace with a large bag on his back.
"Where are you off to?" Adrian called out.
Clayton Xavier turned to see them and said with a smile, "I’m heading into the city to visit an elder."
"Hop on."
Jim Thorne stopped his bike, and Clayton Xavier hopped on the back. Clayton earned enough to afford a bicycle himself, but he didn’t want to buy one. He was afraid of attracting jealous eyes and thought it was better to keep a low profile.
What a coincidence—the elder Clayton Xavier was going to visit lived right near a particular house Adrian Hawthorne owned. Old Man Feng and his party had already arrived; Winston Lowell had picked them up from the station. With them were a frail-looking woman and a girl of about ten, who appeared to be mother and daughter.
