“Get back here! And pick up that pillow!”

Evan Fairchild shut the door, acting as if he hadn’t heard his mother’s roar at all.

Downstairs, Noelle Grant had gone to the kitchen to help. Zoe Quinn was chatting with Megan Langdon, who immediately stood up when she saw Evan Fairchild come down, looking at him with a hint of restraint.

Evan Fairchild headed straight for the door, apparently not even planning to say hello.

“Evan, we’re about to eat. Aren’t you staying for dinner?”

“No, that’s alright. I’m going back to Jansburg tomorrow.”

“Going back so soon? Mom and Dad still haven’t fully recovered.”

“They’re well enough to yell and hit people,” Evan Fairchild said, then walked out.

Zoe Quinn glanced at Megan Langdon. ‘Looks like this Miss Langdon still hasn’t caught Evan’s eye.’

‘I’m really curious if he and the old lady will actually be able to fulfill their one-day pact.’

“Zoe, the food’s ready. Ask Miss Langdon to join us for dinner,” Noelle Grant called out to the two in the living room.

…

After the gala, many celebrities had already left this morning, but Lois Hughes hadn’t.

She still had her parents’ instructions on her mind.

She absolutely had to visit Mr. and Mrs. Fairchild.

If she could just manage to see Mr. and Mrs. Fairchild this time, her parents would gain a lot of face when she returned home.

She’d heard that Evan Fairchild had been staying with his parents, and that his attendance at the Golden Orchid Award gala was just a side trip.

Maybe she’d even run into Evan Fairchild when she went to visit them.

She dressed up meticulously before dialing the unfamiliar number.

“Who is this?” Noelle Grant asked, puzzled by the unfamiliar number.

“I… I’m Lois Hughes.” Lois Hughes sounded a little nervous. “Noelle, do you remember me?”

“Lois Hughes?” Noelle Grant knew they had distant relatives in the Hughes Family, but she had no memory of a Lois Hughes. ‘She called me “Noelle,” so she must be one of the Hughes’s children.’

“Is there something I can help you with?”

“I happen to be in Argent, and I heard Mr. and Mrs. Fairchild are unwell, so I was hoping to visit them. My parents also had me bring some local specialties for you to try.”

“They are resting and shouldn’t be disturbed. I appreciate the thought, but I’ve been too busy taking care of them to meet with anyone. Perhaps when they’re feeling better.”

Lois Hughes hadn’t expected to be rejected so decisively.

Before she could even try to press the issue, the line went dead.

A wave of humiliation washed over her.

“Who does she think she is?! How dare Noelle Grant look down on me! The Grant Family is nothing special. She only got anywhere because she married Evan’s brother and latched onto the Fairchilds!”

“A pheasant flies onto a branch and suddenly thinks it’s a phoenix!”

After muttering a few more curses, Lois Hughes felt a little better.

…

Melody Monroe had assumed Evan Fairchild was just talking, but she never expected him to actually return to Jansburg with her!

On the same flight, in adjacent seats.

The tabloids had been full of rumors about the two of them recently, but he didn’t seem to care in the slightest.

“You haven’t said a word to me in fifteen minutes.” Evan Fairchild glanced at his watch. “Almost sixteen now.”

Melody Monroe looked up at him but remained silent.

‘There were so many people on the plane. When they boarded together, the flight attendants and some of the passengers had recognized them.’

“They’re just rumors! Does it matter who they’re about? Is it so terrible if they’re about me?”

“Keep your voice down,” Melody Monroe whispered to him.

Evan Fairchild looked at her and chuckled.
