Chapter 534: The Absence Grows More Severe

He had to admit, he was jealous as hell.

Christopher Sterling’s influence over Rose Shaw was even stronger than he’d imagined.

Even his name, Christopher Sterling—just the name alone—could sway Rose Shaw’s emotions!

"I’m not going to look for him. I haven’t stooped that low," Rose Shaw said, then lowered her head and ate.

Her words soothed Keith Coleman’s emotions.

"There’s no doubt Melody will win Rookie King. I’ll handle the rest, so you can focus on the studio. After all, I’m still more familiar with the situation here in the country than you are."

"Okay," Keith Coleman said with a smile and a nod.

...

Christopher Sterling sat in his office. He had skipped a meeting that was already on his schedule.

Rose Shaw wasn’t coming back.

His heart felt even emptier.

The void inside him grew larger and larger, and nothing could fill it.

He sat in his office until six in the evening before finally getting up to leave.

He didn’t go home. He went straight to the hospital.

Elijah Sterling was still in the hospital. He went to see his son every day, but he always chose a different time than Lana Sheffield.

A smile touched Christopher Sterling’s eyes as he watched the sleeping child through the glass window.

The baby had changed a lot since birth, having grown a bit bigger.

A nurse came out and updated Christopher Sterling on the baby’s condition.

"Mr. Sterling, the baby now weighs over seven and a half pounds. The doctor said today that he can be discharged tomorrow."

"Thank you for taking such good care of him all this time."

"It was our pleasure."

Just as Christopher Sterling was about to turn, Lana Sheffield walked down the corridor and stopped just three steps away from him.

She hadn’t rested well since giving birth. For one, she was worried about her child in the hospital, and for another, she was preoccupied with Christopher and Rose Shaw.

She had a keen sense of Christopher Sterling’s feelings for Rose Shaw.

Ten years!

He and Rose Shaw had been together for ten years!

And her? They had only been together for such a short time. How could she possibly compare to Rose Shaw?

That was why he had completely ignored her right after she’d given birth, when she was at her most vulnerable.

"The Sheffield Family has already prepared for the full moon celebration. You don’t have to worry about it," Lana Sheffield said coldly.

"I know."

"Christopher Sterling, don’t you have a single word of explanation? I’m your wife, your legal wife! How could you go so long without seeing me? Our child was just born!"

"The baby can be discharged tomorrow. I’ll come pick you both up and take you home."

"No! I’m not going back! Not until you give me a proper explanation. I won’t go back with you and the baby!"

Christopher Sterling glanced at Lana Sheffield and said flatly, "Suit yourself."

Watching Christopher Sterling’s retreating back, Lana Sheffield couldn’t help but cry.

"Christopher Sterling! Do you love me or not? Who is it you truly love—me, or Rose Shaw?!"

Lana Sheffield received no answer.

Christopher Sterling was already gone.

Lana Sheffield was so furious that a sharp pain shot through her chest. Her vision went dark, and she nearly fainted.

A nearby nurse quickly steadied her, but Lana Sheffield pushed the nurse away. She stared through the glass at her son lying in his little bed as tears streamed silently down her face.

She had waited at the hospital all this time today just to see Christopher Sterling.

But now that she had, this was the result.

He didn’t offer a single word of explanation. He said nothing at all.

’Was she the one who was wrong?’

’What did she do wrong?!’

’Rose Shaw was the one who forced her hand!’

Christopher Sterling only saw that Rose Shaw had attempted suicide; he didn’t see the way Rose Shaw had tormented her.
