Rose Shaw’s attitude made her position clear.

She wasn’t going to persuade Melody Monroe to stay. Instead, she was on Melody’s side.

"Rose Shaw, don’t forget who you are. You’re the CEO of this company. When it comes to Melody Monroe, I expect you to listen to me and do whatever it takes to make her stay."

"Since that’s still your position, President Sterling, then you’ll have to find someone else to be CEO. As Melody Monroe’s manager, I’ll be leaving the company with her."

Christopher Sterling never expected Rose Shaw to speak to him like that!

Rose Shaw had always followed his every word, never once contradicting him like this!

"You’re saying you want to leave Stellaris?"

"Yes." Rose Shaw nodded.

"I thought you were the one person in this world who would never leave me."

Rose Shaw froze, looking up at Christopher Sterling. She couldn’t quite grasp the meaning behind his words. She dared not even guess what he truly meant.

But she could tell there wasn’t the slightest hint of romance in his tone.

’To her, Christopher Sterling was the man she loved most. He was the one who had supported her, helping her through one nightmare-plagued night after another. He gave her the courage to live on.’

’To Christopher Sterling, however, she was just a woman he had happened to save. A loyal subordinate, utterly devoted, who would never betray him.’

She had never imagined that one day, she would speak to him like this.

’If he had married a woman worthy of him instead of Lana Sheffield, she would have quietly wished him well, dutifully remained at the company, and continued to support him with what little power she had.’

"Who is Melody Monroe’s benefactor?" Christopher Sterling asked.

"I don’t know." Rose Shaw shook her head.

"You must know. You just won’t tell me."

"President Sterling, I had no idea you were interested in such gossip." Rose Shaw also felt that Christopher Sterling was acting very strange today.

He even felt like a stranger.

"Does it have anything to do with the Rockwell Family?" Christopher Sterling ignored Rose Shaw’s question and asked another.

"No comment." Rose Shaw was a woman of principle.

Christopher Sterling knew very well how principled Rose Shaw was. At least, before today, he’d thought he knew her very well. Now, he was discovering that Rose Shaw’s principles didn’t just apply to others; they applied to him as well.

"President Sterling, does your marriage to Lana Sheffield have anything to do with the Rockwell Family? Do you have some kind of feud with them?" Rose Shaw couldn’t help but ask.

’Even though she’d been with Christopher Sterling for so many years, so much about him was still a complete mystery.’

"Handle Melody Monroe’s situation as you see fit," Christopher Sterling said suddenly, finally conceding.

"Thank you, President Sterling." Rose Shaw turned and walked out.

Watching Rose Shaw’s retreating back, Christopher Sterling removed his glasses. The emotion in his eyes was terrifyingly deep.

’More than just the Rockwell Family!’

The emotion was fleeting, gone in an instant.

Rose Shaw walked out of Christopher Sterling’s office and took a deep breath.

The conversation she just had with Christopher Sterling left her feeling deeply unsettled.

Outsiders only knew that Christopher Sterling was a self-made man, that he had gotten to where he was today all on his own.

But Rose Shaw vividly remembered the scene from a night several years ago when she had picked Christopher Sterling up from a ship.

He had a gunshot wound and multiple fractures, and he recuperated for several months.

He would often disappear suddenly, and no one knew where he went. Sometimes he’d be gone for a few days, sometimes for over ten days, and the longest he was ever gone was more than a month.
