Too Late For Regrets: I Sold My Soul To The New Intern
Chapter 82: Hiss 1
Hiss.
It curled its long, golden body through the darkness in search of his beloved.
She remained frozen on the marble sink, fear saturating every corner of the room.
Corrine never tore her eyes away from the mirror. Her eyes were as wide as the moon, her heart pounding in slow, heavy beats against her chest.
She couldn’t have heard wrong, could she?
I didn’t just...imagine that...did I?
The reflection watched silently. His golden gaze shifted toward the creature advancing on his human before softening as it returned to her.
She looked terrified without even seeing what was coming for her.
But he would never hurt her.
Hell, they would rather hurt themselves if hurting her in any way was the last option left.
He wished he could tell her that, but it was already too late.
He was already coming for her in his true form. His true being and nature.
She wasn’t escaping this and it was the truth about him she would eventually have to face one way or the other.
He watched from the mirror as he moved close enough to stare down at her trembling form on the sink.
Its long, primordial body filled the entire bathroom. It could grow large enough to swallow buildings or shrink enough to slip through a keyhole.
It hissed slowly on her as it was just merely inches away from her. His double golden iris burned like fire as he stared at her for the first time.
The divine beast was pleased at what he saw.
This was the girl he had been meaning to protect and care for.
The one he saved and the sight of her cold lifeless body in a bag drove him insane to the point of joining hands with his enemies to bring her back to life.
The beast gaze softened at her lovely form.
She was precious.
She was divine.
She was his.
All mine.
It hissed again, the sound cutting through the darkness like the fiery gaseous hiss of a boiling magma.
He observed the human close enough to wonder why she wasn’t daring to look at him.
Could she be afraid?
The creature tried to read her mind and understand her rigidness. But none of its thoughts or assumptions could make him understand why she looked so shaken and scared.
He hated it.
His golden slits thinned more in displeasure. Its large head big enough to devour three people her size at once curved downwards again and hissed close enough to show that he was close. Close enough to make her body burn with heat, her skin erupting in goosebumps as fear had a paralyzing grip on her, a tear slid down her face.
Corrine let out a shaky breath, her eyes brightening in horror.
Whatever was behind her was definitely not a demon with goat horns and a long red whip for a tail.
It hissed and moved like a beast without limbs.
And what other reptile is well-known in the world that has no legs or limbs?
Corrine turned around slowly to face the king of nightmares.
The first woman after Eve to meet with the forbidden fruit face to face.
Corrine’s lips fell apart when what she had in mind for a snake was much bigger than she imagined.
Her head angled up slowly to meet with its terrifying slits and insidious gaze.
She gasped, moving back slowly as her lips trembled at what was before her.
Its double iris moved like the watchful gaze of an owl before pinning down on her with what resembled malicious intent.
The snake had an oppressive aura surrounding it. It made the darkness around her much more terrible than it should.
Its piercing gold eyes gleamed with something far more frightening than hatred in the dark...they promised danger and called for wisdom on how to escape it.
The snake seemed to have a sense of intelligence with the way it looked at her. Even his adoring gaze looked menacing and...evil.
Corrine gasped out again in fear, pushing back on the polished surface of the marbled sink enough that her hand hit one of the things arranged on it and it fell inside the sink after giving the tap a solid hit.
The snake’s eyes moved as water gushed out from all angels at the destroyed tap of the sink before slowly returning on her with a venomous look.
She was afraid...
Anais.
Afraid.
The head of the snake was crowned like the one of a king cobra. The crowns of his head were a shiny dark golden color. Its large head as dark as the bottomless pit and its eyes revealing all shades of nightmare down on her at once.
Corrin couldn’t think.
Hell, her entire nervous system was afraid to make a move against something that could kill her without leaving a trace of her existence.
The safest option for her was to try and remain calm—even if she had to act like one. Stay still and fearlessly before it and when the opportunity comes, she hoped, she would run and never look back.
But Corrine would cry out anytime the snake tried to come close enough to feel or even touch her.
The sound of her whimpering and her visible mental collapse would make the snake withdraw back into the dark with a low hiss until only his demonic eyes remained visible enough to just simply observe while keeping his distance.
Corrine felt those golden gazes move on her heatedly, watching her every move as it hid like a predator waiting for his prey to lose guard.
But Hell, would Corrine just sit there, waiting and looking pretty to be devoured by a fucking, literal snake that materialized out of nowhere and has a crazy obsession for just simply observing her until she was an easy meal.
Her eyes roamed about nervously, looking for anything to defend herself.
Love.
Angry.
Terrified.
Do something.
The reflection observing calmly in the mirror watched as his Anais grabbed the sharpest shard of the broken object in the sink as water made a mess of her face and trembling fingers.
Makes me...uncomfortable..seeing her this way.
Do something.
Ichor watched her with a different and much sinister predatory glare from the mirror.
His eyes watched her with a quiet hunger as his lips pressed tightly together when he saw that look on her face again.
Rejection.
His eyes flared with something that burned hotter than his unquenchable desires to claim her as his.
It was sharper than any of his obsession, madness or jealousy for her.
He was hurt as well and thought he would be able to receive her rejection and simply let her go.
Let her go...?
Do something before I do.
His monstrous side warned again, fuelling whatever that was growing within him.
As he watched her through the mirror....Corrine thought what she held in her hands wasn’t sharp enough to kill a fucking titan snake. She turned to the mirror, locking eyes briefly with the image that reverenced her with a burning insanity and in one quick breath...Anais broke the mirror quickly with her elbow.
The shards of the broken glass fell all around her and the sink with an irritating clanking sound. Many of the glass pooled in the sink and drowned in the water that rushed down the drain.
’’Ah,’’ Corrine cried out when she suffered a sharp cut on her finger as she tried to pick up a shard of the broken mirror in the sink. The water gushed, and poured all around her like rain but she remained calm, her hands trembling underneath the chaos as she held on tightly to her weapon of defense and turned to face the monster lurking in the shadows waiting to claim her at once.
