Chapter 277: Chapter 154: Two 4+4 Hidden Dragons and Phoenix Chicks
"Dean Liu, there’s something I need to talk to you about..."
Director Zhang quickly explained the situation to the person on the other end of the line.
Seeing Director Zhang’s expression grow darker and darker, Chen Mo guessed he was probably getting an earful from the person on the phone.
"This Tong Xiaohua is Director Tong’s daughter, and this Xiao Yajing is Vice Director Xiao’s daughter. They’re both from that medical school’s 4+4 program..."
The person on the other end was likely asking about their backgrounds, so Director Zhang gave a brief introduction.
Upon hearing this, Tong Xiaohua’s face filled with resentment and anger.
She knew Xiao Yajing. She was also in her 4+4 program, and her skills were even worse than her own.
She had only ordered the wrong tests, but Xiao Yajing had managed to diagnose a gynecological disease out of thin air.
Her own mistake hadn’t been that serious, but Xiao Yajing’s report was the final nail in the coffin.
Hearing Director Zhang’s words, a thoughtful look also flashed across Chen Mo’s eyes.
He seemed to have heard of that medical school’s 4+4 program before.
The so-called 4+4 program consisted of a four-year non-medical undergraduate degree, plus four years of medical education, which directly awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree.
In other words, they became Doctors of Medicine after studying medicine for only four years.
The standard path to a Doctor of Medicine, however, is a 5+3+3 track.
A five-year medical undergraduate degree, plus a three-year master’s, and then a three-year doctorate.
Assuming one graduates smoothly from each stage, it takes at least eleven years of medical study to become a Doctor of Medicine.
Even someone with no medical background could see the difference between eleven years and four.
The resulting gap in skill level was easy to imagine.
However, getting into a 4+4 program meant they came from a powerful family. It wasn’t something an ordinary person could get into.
The fact that two people of their skill level could work at Yuan Sheng Medical Center was further proof that their families were indeed quite powerful.
"Yes, yes, Dean..."
After nodding and saying a few more words, Director Zhang hung up the phone.
"Mr. Chen, why don’t we go to the dean’s office to discuss this in detail? Our dean would like to personally discuss the compensation plan with you."
Director Zhang explained the situation to Chen Mo: the dean wanted to negotiate the compensation plan with him in person.
"Alright."
Chen Mo didn’t waste any time and nodded.
Then, Chen Mo and Director Zhang left the consultation room together.
"Mom, Dad, I’m going to settle the bill. I’ll be right back."
Chen Mo made up an excuse for his parents.
’He couldn’t just say he was going to collect his payoff, could he?’
’Besides, he really was going to settle the bill. Having the other party settle it for him was still settling the bill, after all.’
Hearing this, his parents didn’t think much of it.
They just went back to looking up the various indicators from the check-up report on their phones, using Baidu to diagnose the illnesses.
But the more they looked, the more worried they became. The report only indicated minor issues.
But as they kept searching, all of those minor issues turned into major diseases.
Soon, Director Zhang led Chen Mo to the dean’s office.
The dean was a bald man in his fifties.
He had started out as a surgeon before moving into a management position and eventually becoming the dean of this high-end medical center.
"Dean Liu, this is Mr. Chen."
"Mr. Chen, this is our Dean Liu."
Director Zhang made the simple introductions.
"Mr. Chen, please have a seat. This was an internal failing on our part that led to such a basic medical error. I apologize."
Dean Liu forced a smile and offered Chen Mo an apology first.
’He was actually furious. He could tolerate people shoving their nepotism hires into the medical center.’
’In order to retain top doctors, he knew some of them would get their own children jobs here, and he had always turned a blind eye.’
’As long as they didn’t perform surgery, having them handle physical exams, check-ups, and lab tests was fine.’
’But he never imagined this pair of "Hidden Dragon and Phoenix Chick" could even fill out a test order incorrectly, diagnosing a man with a gynecological disease.’
’It was absolutely outrageous.’
’This hospital wasn’t his. He was just the hired dean.’
’If anything went wrong, the shareholders behind the scenes would definitely fire him first.’
’That’s why this matter with Chen Mo had to be handled properly. Otherwise, the hospital would be in huge trouble, and his own job would be on the line.’
"There’s no need for any more apologies. This isn’t something that can be resolved with a simple ’sorry’."
Chen Mo’s expression was neutral. He was tired of hearing apologies.
"Mr. Chen is right. It’s unrealistic to think a mere apology could resolve this, so I’ll skip the pleasantries."
"How about this, Mr. Chen? Our hospital will compensate you with 10 million yuan. You give us the report, and we’ll consider this matter closed. How about it?"
Dean Liu hadn’t gotten from the operating table to the dean’s office without ability and decisiveness.
The people who came to their medical center were all wealthy, and Director Zhang had told him that Chen Mo had used a deluxe check-up package card.
Their medical center didn’t sell those kinds of cards; they were only given out as gifts.
The recipients were all high-net-worth individuals in Modu and even the entire East China Region, given in the hopes that they would bring their families for check-ups and become clients of the center.
’Which of these people didn’t have a net worth starting in the hundreds of millions?’
’When something like this happened, if you wanted to buy their silence, you couldn’t just offer some paltry one or two million, or even three or four million. That would be a joke.’
’If you offered 2 million to shut them up, they’d think you were insulting them.’
’Diagnosing a male family member with a gynecological disease was already infuriating enough.’
’And now you’re going to pull out 2 million to insult them all over again?’
’Did you really think they were that good-tempered?’
’For all you know, they could casually toss out 3 million—chump change to them—and buy you a top spot on the trending charts for ten days straight.’
’By then, there’d be no use crying.’
’Anyway, the money wasn’t coming out of his pocket, but he would be the one to take the fall if things went south.’
’It was basically using the medical center’s money to clean up a mess that happened on his watch.’
’What was wrong with that?’
’Besides, in the medical industry, especially at a high-end private medical center...’
’What was 10 million?’
’The medical center was loaded. As long as its reputation was protected, making that money back would be all too easy.’
