"As the person in charge of the Han City shelter base, I will take full responsibility for its construction. I hope everyone will work together to make the Han City shelter base the top among the ten major shelter bases. The shelter base project is meant to save the disaster-stricken public. We cannot cut corners and create shoddy construction projects like those corrupt developers. Therefore, during the construction process, I will strictly monitor the base from beginning to end."

Chen Momo ate fried chicken and sipped beer while listening to Gu Rongjin’s methodical planning on the radio.

According to the memories of her past life, the shelter base would be completed in about a month. For the remaining month, the three of them just needed to eat well, drink well, and sleep well in the villa, waiting to move in once the base was finished!

"Mommy, the snow stopped!"

The little monster of the house had also woken up. He ran over, PATTER PATTER, gripping the window railing with his chubby little hands and poking his small head out to look around.

Xu Xiaoka walked over as well. Seeing that the snow had stopped outside, she was pleasantly surprised. "The snow really stopped!"

Chen Xiaobao suggested, "Sister Xiao Ka, let’s go outside and play in the snow!"

Xu Xiaoka asked, "Momo, I heard that when the weather gets really cold, people’s ears can freeze off. Is that true?"

Wanting to scare Xu Xiaoka a little, Chen Momo deliberately said, "If it’s too cold, it’s definitely possible. The blood vessels in the ears are exposed, making them easily damaged by the severe cold."

Startled by this, Xu Xiaoka quickly covered her ears with her hands and ran back to her room to grab an extra pair of earmuffs. Once the two of them were fully bundled up, they went outside together to have a snowball fight.

Chen Momo stood by the window, watching Xu Xiaoka and Chen Xiaobao have their snowball fight without stopping them. It had been snowing heavily for so many days that people were going crazy from being cooped up, especially the little rascal of the house. Although Chen Xiaobao was very well-behaved—never crying or making a fuss—Chen Momo knew her son definitely wanted to go outside and play. Since the snow had stopped, she might as well let him have some fun!

"I’m freezing to death!"

"My ears are about to freeze off!"

"Let’s hold on a little longer and find a place to stay!"

In the distance, several tall, burly men were walking toward the villa area. They immediately spotted Chen Xiaobao and Xu Xiaoka playing in the snow.

"Looks like someone’s here!" a tall and muscular man named Sun Hu shouted, pointing in their direction.

"Great! This is the villa area! Let’s just smash a door open and stay in one of these houses!" The speaker was Gao Xiang.

The newcomers consisted of three large, imposing men heading directly toward the luxury homes. Seeing strangers approaching, Xu Xiaoka hurriedly grabbed Chen Xiaobao’s hand and pulled him back inside, informing Chen Momo that three strange men had entered the area.

Chen Momo said calmly, "Make sure our door is locked. Let’s see what these three want to do."

Sun Hu pointed to the villa right next to Chen Momo’s. "Let’s pry this door open and stay here!"

Gao Xiang and Liu Fei immediately agreed to Sun Hu’s proposal.

Gao Xiang cursed excitedly, "I never even dared to dream that I, Gao Xiang, would get to live in a luxury villa in this lifetime!"

Liu Fei chuckled. "It’s all thanks to the blizzard! We really owe this snowstorm a big thank you!"

After speaking, the men burst into malicious laughter.

Chen Momo pressed her ear against her front door and listened to the commotion outside. She thought that these men were probably just looking for a place to stay too. However, the deadbolts on these villas were not that easy to pry open. These guys were going to hit a brick wall.

Sure enough, after a CLANG CLATTER of noise from the door next door, Sun Hu cursed, "Son of a bitch, it’s no use! This lock won’t budge at all!"

Gao Xiang said, "Let me try!"

He took the lock-picking tools and attacked the door with another BANG CLASH of metal, but ultimately, he failed too.

As the men stood outside shivering in the biting cold, Liu Fei cast malicious eyes on Chen Momo’s villa. "Brothers, I saw that the people next door are just two women and a kid. How about we go to their house?"

Gao Xiang immediately agreed, "Yeah! We can just stay next door!"

Sun Hu grinned wickedly, and the three of them walked over toward Chen Momo’s home.

Looking through the peephole and seeing the three men approaching, Chen Momo warned Xu Xiaoka and Chen Xiaobao, "These three are bad men. No matter what they say in a moment, do not open the door. Understood?"

Chen Xiaobao and Xu Xiaoka nodded immediately. "Understood!"

After double-checking that the villa’s deadbolts were securely locked, Chen Momo sat cross-legged on the sofa, leisurely snacking on sunflower seeds while firing up a game on her iPad.

From outside the door came a KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

"Miss, we’re lost. Could you open the door and let us in to warm up?" Sun Hu called out, feigning extreme politeness.

Chen Momo answered through the door, "Wait a moment. I’ll open the door for you in a bit."

Despite her words, she didn’t stop playing her game; as soon as one match ended, she started another. On the table beside her, various weapons—a large sledgehammer, a fruit knife, a Swiss Army knife, and pepper spray—were already laid out neatly in a row.

Sun Hu, actually believing that Chen Momo would let them in, turned to the other two men and said, "Hear that? Women are so easy to fool. She’s coming to open the door for us in a second!"

The three of them excitedly rubbed their hands together and stood by the door waiting.

However, ten minutes passed. The three men were almost frozen numb, yet there was still no sign of Chen Momo opening the door.

Suppressing his rising anger, Sun Hu asked tentatively, "Miss, when exactly are you going to open the door for us?"

Chen Momo replied, "Just wait a moment. Something came up in the house." With that, she started yet another match on her iPad.

Sun Hu, Liu Fei, and Gao Xiang ended up standing at the door for another ten minutes. In such severe, freezing weather, standing outside for twenty minutes was tantamount to torture. Liu Fei and Gao Xiang were so cold they were on the verge of passing out.

Seeing that Chen Momo was still not coming to the door, Sun Hu finally realized what was happening. "Damn it, we’ve been tricked!"

He turned around, snatched the hammer from Liu Fei’s hand, raised his arm in a fury, and swung it hard at the door of Chen Momo’s villa.

However, Sun Hu was shocked to realize that after standing in the extreme cold for twenty minutes, his arms completely refused to obey him. When he swung the hammer, he missed the door entirely and smashed it right onto his own foot.

The intense pain instantly made Sun Hu bare his teeth and howl in agony. His feet had been freezing in the ice and snow for twenty minutes and had already lost almost all feeling. Now, having been smashed by a heavy hammer, his foot was probably crippled for good!
