Chapter 51: Chapter 50: The Snow Stopped

Chen Momo decided to continue scavenging major locations to fill up her dimension before the shelter base was built. According to her observations on the map, there were several schools and corporate offices nearby, in addition to a few large supermarkets.

Since the supermarkets held the most supplies, she targeted them first. She stuffed everything into her dimension—from daily groceries like cooking oil and rice to biscuits and noodles. It was as if she had directly uprooted and moved entire supermarkets into her dimension!

Schools were also treasure troves of resources. Chen Momo stored away textbooks and desks, knowing that once the apocalypse passed, humanity would need to rebuild and learn. Books for passing down knowledge would always be essential.

Nutritious student meals—bread, milk, and the like—were stacked in boxes all over the schools. Chen Momo collected them all. In the apocalypse, these were highly sought-after goods!

After clearing out several schools, Chen Momo visited a few nearby large companies. There, she gathered a massive amount of office supplies and employee welfare snacks.

Over the next few days, Chen Momo hoarded all the scarce supplies in the vicinity into her dimension. Her stockpiles were now countless times larger than before the apocalypse began!

As Chen Momo sorted the supplies in her dimension into distinct zones, she wondered what else was missing. Suddenly, a flash of inspiration hit her. That’s right, vehicles!

Although cars were useless during the blizzard, they would undoubtedly be essential once the snowstorms passed. Vehicles were an absolute necessity!

She immediately thought of several underground parking garages nearby. The villa she currently occupied had one, but the blizzard had completely buried the entrance, and she hadn’t been able to locate it yet. The underground garage in this luxury villa district was definitely filled with high-end cars. Finding the entrance would be akin to striking gold!

Consequently, Chen Momo assigned Xu Xiaoka the task of finding the entrance to their villa district’s garage. Meanwhile, she took her son to the underground parking lots of nearby office buildings and shopping malls to collect vehicles.

These underground garages were the easiest to find; one simply had to walk down the stairs to the basement level. Whether it was a Wuling Hongguang, a Jeep, a Hongqi, or a Buick... Initially, Chen Momo absorbed every vehicle she saw into her dimension, regardless of its make, model, or condition, just to accumulate as many as possible. Very quickly, her dimension was packed with cars.

However, after clearing out a few parking lots, she realized this wasn’t the best strategy. Space in her dimension was ultimately finite. Some of the cars were practically ready for the scrapyard. Even if she collected them, they would be useless in the apocalypse—poor quality meant a higher risk of accidents.

Thus, Chen Momo devised a new plan: she would only collect high-performance vehicles!

Whenever they entered an underground parking lot, she had Chen Xiaobao scout ahead and mark the good cars—those capable of functioning normally in the harsh apocalyptic environment. Once he found a suitable vehicle, he would slap a highly visible green sticker on it. Chen Momo would then follow behind, solely responsible for storing them away.

Fortunately, her son was quite the car enthusiast. Even though the little guy usually only played with toy cars, he possessed an abundance of knowledge about real-world vehicles. The mother-and-son duo divided the labor perfectly: Chen Xiaobao hunted for target vehicles, while Chen Momo absorbed them and organized their parking zones inside her dimension. Working together, they amassed a significant fleet.

Chen Momo carved out a specific sector in her dimension to serve as a "parking zone." Any car she collected went straight there. She then subdivided the vehicles into four zones—A, B, C, and D—based on their condition, performance, and durability. Zone A housed the top-tier vehicles, Zone B held the second-best, Zone C the third, and Zone D contained the lowest quality.

Once they had cleared out all the nearby underground parking lots, Chen Momo drove Chen Xiaobao back. The mother and son returned to the villa in high spirits, only to see Xu Xiaoka running over excitedly. She grabbed Chen Momo’s arm. "Sister Momo, I have great news! I found the entrance to the villa district’s underground parking garage!"

"Really?" Chen Momo asked, pleasantly surprised.

Xu Xiaoka nodded fervently. "It’s true! Sister Momo, come with me!"

Chen Momo followed Xu Xiaoka to the parking garage. As she had expected, row upon row of luxury cars sat perfectly parked—well over two hundred of them!

Xu Xiaoka chattered away. "I was totally shocked when I saw this! I’ve only ever seen this many luxury cars on TV. Seeing them with my own eyes in real life is pretty mind-blowing! What do the people who drive these luxury cars even do for a living? When will I ever get to drive one?"

Chen Momo listened to Xu Xiaoka’s rambling while trying to maintain her own composure. Truthfully, she was just as thrilled to see hundreds of luxury vehicles all at once. After all, these were high-end cars worth millions each. Usually, just seeing one on the street was exciting enough. How could anyone stay calm when faced with over two hundred of them at the same time?

Chen Momo shot her son a wink. Chen Xiaobao immediately understood the assignment and knew it was time to play along with his mommy’s act.

"Sister Xiao Ka, Xiao Bao’s tummy is hungry. I want to go back and eat. Will Sister Xiao Ka go back to the villa with me?" Chen Xiaobao looked up at Xu Xiaoka with a pitiful, innocent, and handsome little face.

"Okay. I’ll go back with you to get some food, alright?" Xu Xiaoka said dotingly.

With that, the two of them held hands and headed back to the villa for a snack.

The moment Xu Xiaoka and Chen Xiaobao left, Chen Momo activated her frantic collecting mode. Over two hundred luxury cars vanished into her dimension, all neatly parked in Zone A! Thanks to this haul, her inventory of top-tier vehicles was significantly bolstered!

Day sixty of the apocalypse.

Early in the morning, Chen Momo stood by the window in her silk pajamas, stretching lazily. Looking outside, she suddenly realized the snow had stopped. Calculating the time, she recalled that the blizzard had ceased around this exact time in her previous apocalyptic life.

She immediately took out her radio and turned it on. Sure enough, the mysterious channel was already broadcasting plans for the construction of a shelter base in Han City.

Gu Rongjin’s long-lost, pleasant voice crackled over the airwaves.

"As the director of the Han City shelter base, I will take full responsibility for its construction. I hope everyone will work together to make the Han City base the crown jewel of the top ten shelter bases. This project is meant to save disaster victims; we cannot cut corners or produce shoddy, tofu-dreg construction like greedy developers. Therefore, I will strictly monitor the entire building process from start to finish."
