The Viltrumite Across the Worlds
Chapter 325: The Multiverse Labyrinth
For a time afterward, the entire world seemed to sink into peace.
Jovian withdrew behind the scenes, almost as though he had vanished from the world entirely.
He seemed to be waiting for something.
Simon and the others had tried searching for him, but found nothing. Jovian had arrived without warning, and he disappeared just as suddenly.
Before long, Simon became a hero. Countless people who had once lived underground emerged onto the surface because of him.
The world entered an age of peace, and towering buildings rose everywhere.
Time flew by. Empowered by Spiral Power, humanity's technology advanced at an astonishing rate. They transformed the once-parched planet into a green world and constructed futuristic cities far beyond anything modern civilization had ever achieved.
Time was a strange thing.
Once everyone had become completely immersed in happiness and prosperity, disaster finally arrived.
Just as the now-grown Simon and Nia, the girl he had fallen in love with at first sight, were preparing to marry, the final crisis appeared.
Nia changed.
She became so unfamiliar that Simon could barely recognize her.
Perhaps the only part of the Nia he knew that remained was her appearance.
At the same time, the stars in the sky revealed their true nature.
They were enormous Mugann.
They descended from the heavens and delivered an ultimatum to Earth.
Execute Simon.
Otherwise, Earth would be purged.
When the president of the Earth Federation finally decided to imprison Simon, believing that his decision was not wrong, the Mugann realized that the most dangerous person on Earth had disappeared.
Then they began the complete extermination of humanity.
Humanity's greatest crisis had arrived.
"See those things in the sky? Those are our real enemies. In the end, I was the one protecting this world."
At an abandoned mine, a muscular man wearing a cloak raised his head toward the countless enemies filling the sky like stars and spoke coldly.
"Which only proves that you're a failure. You lost once, and that single defeat robbed you of the will to keep fighting."
Jovian looked up at the sky.
He knew the Anti-Spiral's punishment had finally arrived.
"Hmph!"
"Say that again after you've actually faced that monster! Hopefully you don't piss yourself!"
"Nobody can preserve hope in their heart after confronting that kind of absolute despair!"
The cloaked man beside Jovian was naturally Lordgenome, the Spiral King.
He stared into the sky and laughed bitterly at himself.
"Then let's find out. This time, we'll beat the hell out of him."
Jovian turned and began walking toward the distant city.
"You really are a fool. I thought anyone capable of defeating me would at least be intelligent."
Lordgenome watched Jovian's retreating figure and spoke coldly.
"Either come with me, dig yourself a hole, or crawl back into your grave."
Jovian didn't even bother looking back at Lordgenome.
Ever since this bastard had been defeated by the Anti-Spiral countless years ago, he had forced all humanity underground and built himself an enormous tomb.
Yes.
The palace known as the Spiral King's royal residence had, in truth, been nothing more than the tomb Lordgenome had constructed for himself.
He had originally intended never to leave it for the rest of his life.
"Go back to that tomb? What kind of joke is that?"
"You think that after dragging a living corpse back from the brink of death, he'd want to go back to spending eternity the way he used to?"
"This time, I'll either live proudly or die for good!"
Lordgenome followed Jovian toward the distant city.
"What the hell is happening outside?!"
Inside the prison, Simon looked around in confusion.
He could hear explosions and screams echoing from outside.
He desperately wanted to leave and save everyone, yet he hesitated.
This world had hurt him deeply.
BOOM!
Just as Simon hesitated, a deafening explosion blasted through the wall of his cell.
Two figures walked through the opening, completely ignoring the surrounding guards.
"You two..."
Simon's pupils contracted violently when he saw them approaching.
He couldn't possibly have forgotten them.
One was Jovian.
The other was Lordgenome, the Spiral King, who should have been dead.
"I know you've got a lot of questions, but we don't have time to answer them."
"The ship bound for hell is about to depart. Want to take one last trip before you die?"
Jovian stood before Simon with his arms folded across his chest.
"Jovian, what reason do I have left..."
Simon lowered his head, his voice filled with despair.
Then he suddenly raised it and shouted.
"...not to go?!"
"Whether it's hell or heaven, whether our enemy is a god or a demon..."
"We're going to make damn sure they know who we are!"
Simon shattered his handcuffs and grabbed the Core Drill hanging from his neck.
The drill seemed to respond to Simon's emotions, shining brightly.
"Hmph."
Jovian smiled faintly as he watched Simon's spirit ignite once again.
At the same time, Lordgenome punched through the wall of the neighboring cell.
Inside was a Beastman with long white hair.
"You've finally awakened, great Spiral King!"
The white-haired Beastman was Viral.
He stared at his king with tears filling his eyes and laughed joyfully.
Viral had apparently always believed that the Spiral King could never truly be defeated, much less die.
The Spiral King had simply been tired.
He had only fallen asleep.
Now that invincible king had opened his eyes once again.
He was awake.
"Bastard! I never closed my eyes, and I certainly wasn't sleeping!"
"I was merely somewhat exhausted at the time, so I got off the ride and rested for a moment."
Lordgenome folded his arms and spoke coldly.
"Hahahaha!"
"Of course. My mistake!"
Viral laughed loudly and apologized to the Spiral King.
"We don't have time for reunions."
"Everyone, we're moving out."
Jovian tossed a cloak and sunglasses to Simon, threw a flag to Viral, and strode forward.
"Let's show them who we are!"
Everyone roared together.
Their Spiral Power surged.
On the surface...
"My fault... My fault... My fault... Is this all my fault?!"
Rossiu clutched his head tightly with both hands.
His eyes were filled with terror.
Everything happening before him was his fault.
He had once believed that surely there must be a place for humanity somewhere out in the universe.
Only when Rossiu finally looked beyond Earth did he realize the truth.
Earth was still humanity's final home.
If this world disappeared, humanity would have nothing left.
And because of his decisions, the last possession humanity had was now under relentless assault by an extraterrestrial civilization.
"Hey! Why do you look so miserable?!"
Just as Rossiu trembled helplessly, uncertain what to do, a face suddenly appeared on the screen beside him.
It was Simon.
"You..."
Rossiu stared at him in disbelief.
"Don't lose your nerve, Rossiu. You weren't wrong."
Despite the injustice he had suffered, Simon still forgave Rossiu for what he had done.
That only made Rossiu's heart ache even more.
"Simon, the enemy is too powerful. Our attacks don't work. Can humanity still be saved?!"
"Isn't that obvious? Just who the hell do you think we are?"
Simon smiled and shouted.
As his words rang out, Yoko, Kittan, Viral, Leeron, and the other members of Team Dai-Gurren arrived beside him.
Standing at the very front of them all were Jovian and the Spiral King, Lordgenome, both staring toward the sun.
"Everyone, it's time to fight!"
The instant Jovian spoke, enormous warships suddenly materialized out of thin air.
In the next moment, everyone who had been standing on the ground found themselves aboard the ships.
BOOM!
Brilliant multicolored cannon fire illuminated the world.
Every enemy remaining on the surface was annihilated in an instant.
The fleet rose into the sky and headed for space.
Inside the starship, the members of Team Dai-Gurren took their seats.
Only Viral remained standing, searching around for something.
"Who are you looking for?"
Jovian looked at Viral.
"Lordgenome, of course! Where did the Spiral King go?!"
Viral was confused.
There was no seat for Lordgenome anywhere inside the command deck.
"Him? He's in his special position."
Jovian sat down in the command chair.
Then he issued his order.
"Forward!"
"You worthless bastards, come at me! Just who the hell do you think I am?!"
As the fleet advanced through space, a tall man stood directly on the deck of the flagship, his entire body radiating seemingly endless Spiral Power.
It was as though he could breathe freely even in space.
Lordgenome effortlessly ignored the rule that sound couldn't travel through a vacuum.
His booming voice spread across space and shattered an entire group of nearby enemy warships.
"Devour!"
Jovian controlled the flagship and drew in every fragment of the destroyed enemy machines.
The wreckage was instantly absorbed and reinforced into the ship's hull.
As the vessel continued forward, it became larger and larger.
"Have you truly thought this through?!"
"Continuing onward means humanity's certain death!"
"It means you miserable Spiral beings will inevitably be crushed beneath us!"
Warning after warning echoed from the enemy warships, directed at Jovian and Lordgenome.
"Stop?"
"We haven't been able to stop since the moment we set out!"
"A man never stops moving forward!"
"Our ship is the ship that will pierce the universe! Before long, we'll be right in front of you!"
Simon shouted.
This ship was his drill.
This time, they really would pierce the heavens.
"This is getting exciting. You're looking forward to it too, aren't you?"
"Our last battle never truly finished. I'll admit that I lost back then, but this time I'm taking back everything I lost!"
Lordgenome stood proudly upon the deck, staring coldly into the darkness at the depths of space.
"Foolish! Utterly foolish!"
"You idiotic Spiral beings truly should have been exterminated!"
"You have no idea what you're doing!"
"One day, this universe will be destroyed because of you!"
"It seems allowing your kind to survive in the first place was my mistake!"
"From this day forward, I will exterminate every Spiral being I can find, no matter which world they inhabit!"
A voice roared through the endless void, carrying an overwhelmingly oppressive presence.
"So that's the bastard who defeated the great Spiral King all those years ago?!"
"A coward who won't even show his true face..."
Viral seemed to realize something and snarled viciously.
"The Spiral King fought a war against him before?!"
Simon froze, then turned toward Viral in surprise.
"Why do you think the Spiral King forced humanity underground?!"
"Do you really think he wanted to destroy humanity?! No! The Spiral King was protecting humanity! None of you understood anything!"
"Do you have any idea how much pressure Lordgenome carried on his shoulders?!"
"If he hadn't done what he did, humanity would have gone extinct!"
Viral told Simon the bitter, bloody history behind everything that had happened.
"That was a very long time ago. There's no need to talk about it anymore."
Lordgenome had apparently heard Viral.
His voice echoed throughout the ship.
"..."
Everyone aboard fell silent.
Only now did they realize that the enemy they had once fought could hardly be considered their true enemy.
There had only ever been one genuine enemy.
The one they were facing now.
"It's been so long since I've felt my blood burn like this..."
Lordgenome stood on the deck of the ship, savoring the sensation of cosmic radiation washing across his body.
It made him feel alive.
It made him feel that he could still fight.
"Everyone, listen carefully. The enemy loves using memories and happy possibilities as bait to attack the weakest parts of our hearts."
"If those weaknesses are broken, we'll become accomplices of the enemy."
"So if you see one of your comrades fall under his control, the only thing you can do is immediately knock them unconscious or kill them."
Lordgenome shared the experience he had gained from his previous defeat.
"There's no need."
"No one here is going to be fooled by such childish tricks."
"Keep moving forward, straight toward our final destination."
Jovian rejected Lordgenome's warning outright.
There was only one thing they needed to do.
Only one thing they could do.
Kill the Anti-Spiral.
"Heh..."
"Looks like I was talking too much."
Lordgenome smiled and said nothing further.
For reasons even he couldn't explain, he felt that everyone gathered here was strong.
Together, perhaps they really could defeat that thing.
"You really are unbelievably stubborn!"
"After coming this far, why do you still insist on reaching me?!"
"Why can't you understand how I feel?!"
"Don't you understand how much I love this universe?!"
After the dark being finished speaking, it brought its hands together.
A pitch-black universe suddenly appeared between them.
"You bastards can remain trapped in this universe forever!"
"No, more accurately, no intelligent life-form can ever escape my labyrinth!"
"Multiverse Labyrinth!"
The dark entity activated its power.
In an instant, Jovian and everyone else were dragged into the labyrinth.
"No intelligent being can ever emerge alive!"
"Remain trapped in these worlds and reincarnate endlessly!"
"Again and again!"
"Again and again and again!"
At last, the dark silhouette revealed its true appearance.
It was a pitch-black collective entity shaped roughly like a human.
Beyond that outline, there was almost nothing about it that could still be described as human.
This was the enemy they had come to defeat.
The Anti-Spiral.
