The Viltrumite Across the Worlds
Chapter 314: Exiling Jovian
"Boom!"
Terrifying shock waves swept through the training arena as several muscular figures landed in front of Jovian.
"Hahaha!"
"We have an overwhelming advantage now. Were I in your position, I'd surrender immediately. Otherwise, I'm going to give every one of you a serious ass-kicking."
The muscular man with a lightning bolt emblazoned across his chest stood proudly before Jovian.
"To be honest, we used to be your fans!"
"But we aren't anymore, and we never will be again!"
Five other people stood behind the lightning-emblazoned man. Each bore the same lightning symbol on their chest, although their costumes were different colors.
There were six of them altogether.
"What's your name?"
Jovian looked at the muscular man curiously.
"My name is..."
The big idiot immediately became excited and prepared to tell Jovian his name.
"Hey! Remember, don't say that word casually!"
Just as he was about to speak, Batman climbed back to his feet and warned him.
"Oh! You were trying to trick me?"
Only then did the muscular fool realize what Jovian was doing. He glared furiously at him.
"Hahaha..."
Jovian chuckled at his reaction, then flew over to the red-clad fool with the lightning emblem on his chest.
"You look mentally defective."
Jovian smiled and gently patted him on the head.
Then he suddenly exerted his strength.
A blur flashed through the air. After taking a vicious slap from Jovian, the fool was sent crashing into the dust behind him.
"What?!"
The remaining five caped heroes froze. This was the first time they had ever seen Billy knocked away with a single blow.
"Children, this isn't a place you should have come to."
"But since you're already here, don't expect to leave."
Jovian smiled at the five stunned heroes.
"Attack!"
The five exchanged glances, frowned, and flew toward Jovian together.
"Childish."
Jovian remained completely still as the five descended upon him.
Just before they reached him, Mark and Nolan moved.
They instantly circled behind the five heroes. Each Viltrumite seized two of them by the throat, restraining four in total.
"Bzzzt!"
Only one girl remained. She raced toward Jovian, but he grabbed her by the head with one hand.
Fiery light burned in his eyes before shooting directly into hers.
"Aaaaah!"
Piercing screams erupted from the woman's mouth.
Less than five seconds later, she collapsed lifelessly to the floor.
"It's time to surrender your power."
Jovian gently rested one hand on the dead girl's head.
The next moment, the power inside her surged wildly into his body.
In an instant, her body completely vanished.
"The divine power of Mercury?"
Divine light flickered within Jovian's eyes. The improvement was negligible to him, but he was unwilling to leave such power inside anyone else.
"No!"
The other four roared when they saw what had happened. They glared furiously at Jovian. Had looks been capable of killing, he would have died ten thousand times over.
Unfortunately, they were not.
"Schlick!"
Three bodies were pierced through in rapid succession.
Only one beautiful woman remained, desperately struggling for freedom. Unfortunately, the difference between her strength and Nolan's was far too great. No matter how hard she fought, she could not escape his grasp.
"Hmph."
Mark casually tossed aside the two corpses in his hands. He rolled his shoulders and turned toward the others.
"Is that really all you can do?"
Mark began walking toward them one step at a time.
Batman's expression became grim.
He had originally believed the Shazam Family would be able to fight Jovian on relatively even terms. Instead, they had bitterly disappointed him. Jovian's side had destroyed them almost instantly.
The difference in power was incalculable.
"No!"
While Batman calmly considered his next move, a figure radiating magical power erupted from the sand.
It was Billy, whom Jovian had sent flying with a single slap.
Red light burned in Billy's eyes as he charged furiously toward Jovian.
"You can't do this!"
Billy appeared in front of Jovian in an instant, and terrifying bolts of lightning crashed down upon him.
"Hmph."
Jovian smiled contemptuously in the face of Billy's immense magical power. He appeared before Billy in an instant and seized him by the throat.
"So you're allowed to come after me, but I'm not allowed to kill you?"
"We never intended to kill anyone!"
Billy felt as though Jovian was strangling the life out of him, but he continued glaring defiantly.
"You may not have intended to kill anyone, but unfortunately, this is a battlefield."
"People always die on battlefields."
Jovian snapped Billy's neck.
"Run!"
Batman ultimately placed his final hope in Barry Allen.
At this point, Barry was the only chance they had left.
"All right!"
Barry gritted his teeth and prepared to draw upon the Speed Force again.
"Hummm!"
Just as Barry was about to accelerate to full speed, a dark light enveloped the entire world.
Time seemed to stop completely.
"Crack!"
When time began moving again, Barry stared down in shock at the hole through his abdomen. Bright red blood sprayed from his mouth as the light gradually faded from his eyes.
"What just happened?"
To everyone else, the world had seemed to skip a frame. By the time they realized what had happened, Jovian had already killed Barry.
"Dark Knight."
Jovian casually tossed Barry's corpse aside and walked over to Batman.
"You've disappointed me. Is this really all you're capable of?"
"If these are the only tricks you have, then I'm sorry to say that you've already lost."
Jovian grabbed Batman and lifted him from the ground.
He had always believed that someone as intelligent as Batman had to be capable of more than this. If this was truly everything Bruce had prepared, then the game would not be much fun.
"I lost?"
"No. I won."
Batman looked at Jovian and revealed a faint smile.
The next moment, Jovian's super-hearing detected countless police sirens, the thunder of helicopter rotors, and the rumbling advance of armored vehicles.
A massive force had completely surrounded Kent Tower.
"You really are a selfish bastard."
Jovian tossed Batman onto the ground.
"Do you realize how many people I'll have to kill because of this?"
Jovian looked at Batman in annoyance. He had not planned to begin a wholesale massacre, but now it seemed he might have no choice.
"Are you planning to make an enemy of the entire world?"
Batman froze before questioning him.
"You're mistaken, Bruce Wayne. I'm not trying to make an enemy of the world. The entire world is trying to make an enemy of me."
"You had better be prepared for war."
Jovian shook his head helplessly.
He had never opposed the world. He tolerated the world, which meant only the world could choose to oppose him.
Batman found himself unable to respond.
"God Among Men, you've gone too far!"
A seemingly transparent figure suddenly flew into Kent Tower and warned Jovian.
Jovian glanced at Martian Manhunter, then exhaled an endless torrent of flames.
"Aaaaah!"
Martian Manhunter screamed and immediately collapsed to the floor.
"If you're afraid of fire, don't come looking for trouble, idiot!"
Jovian walked out of Kent Tower.
"What are you planning to do, soldiers?"
Floating in midair, Jovian looked down at the hesitant troops surrounding the building.
No one answered at first.
"Mr. Jovian, the President sent us to arrest the criminals who unlawfully entered your building and caused this disturbance!"
Just as Jovian was considering whether to exterminate them all at once, a man who appeared to be the commanding officer stepped forward.
He saluted Jovian respectfully before quietly explaining their purpose.
"A wise decision."
Jovian smiled. He understood exactly what the officer's statement represented and moved aside to let the soldiers pass.
Before long, the troops had arrested everyone, including Batman.
"Bruce Wayne!"
"I look forward to our third game!"
"Let's hope you don't lose three times in a row."
Jovian spoke to Batman as the soldiers prepared to place him inside a vehicle.
Batman said nothing. He merely gave Jovian a cold look.
The vehicles then departed.
The helicopters and soldiers soon withdrew as well.
"You still plan to continue playing with him?"
Once everyone had left, Nolan questioned Jovian.
"It's only a game."
"I want to see what Bruce Wayne, the man who represents the physical and intellectual limits of humanity, can come up with."
Jovian had been steadily applying pressure to Bruce Wayne. He wanted to see what the Dark Knight would become after finally being pushed over the edge.
"Besides, if I want to continue growing stronger, I need to devour sufficiently powerful opponents."
"There's almost no one left in this world worthy of my attention."
"Cultivating someone into a powerful opponent and then devouring them could be quite entertaining."
Jovian stretched before turning and walking away.
The following morning, newspapers reported that Batman and several other superheroes had been arrested.
However, none of the newspapers mentioned Batman's secret identity.
As Jovian read the articles, he knew the third round could finally begin.
Elsewhere, Bruce Wayne was sitting inside a prison cell. The moment he saw the person standing outside, he understood what Jovian's words had meant.
Bruce sighed and walked out of his cell.
He was escorted into a concealed room, where the people waiting inside immediately caught his attention.
"Allow me to introduce myself again. My name is Mr. M, and I organized this operation!"
The speaker wore a paper bag over his head with the letter M printed across it.
Beside the self-proclaimed Mr. M sat Cyborg, whose body had been reassembled, a grim-faced Wonder Woman, Deathstroke, who had somehow survived his wounds, Lex Luthor, and a disheveled, bearded man.
Bruce looked at the gathered group without speaking.
He already had a general understanding of what was happening, so there was no need for further explanations.
"In any case, welcome to our organization, Mr. Wayne."
"We have only one objective, revenge against the god!"
Mr. M welcomed Bruce into the group without waiting for him to agree.
"Strictly speaking, Jovian isn't a god. He's merely an extraordinarily powerful alien."
"Technically, this woman has a far greater claim to divinity."
The unshaven man glanced around the room and corrected Mr. M's description, gesturing toward Wonder Woman.
"Whether he's actually a god or not doesn't matter. Right now, he seems more powerful than God and even more terrifying than the demons of Hell, Satan, or Lucifer!"
Mr. M shook his head.
He did not care what Jovian truly was. He only wanted to know whether anything in existence was still capable of defeating him.
Nothing else mattered as much.
"Whew."
"The devils of Hell are far more terrifying than any of you realize."
The disheveled man lit a cigarette. Smoke soon drifted throughout the room.
"Are you saying you possess the power to kill Jovian?"
Bruce looked at the bearded man.
"No. I don't."
John Constantine answered with complete certainty.
Bruce was momentarily speechless.
"But we don't actually need to kill him."
"What I mean is, we could simply banish him."
Constantine continued speaking while the others stared at him in confusion.
"Banish him where?"
"To some remote island?"
"Another planet?"
"Don't be ridiculous. No matter where we lure him, he can simply fly back, make his eyes glow red, and kill us one at a time!"
Someone responded dismissively.
"No, no, no."
"An island wouldn't work, and neither would another planet."
"What I'm proposing is something different."
"We could banish Jovian into another world. More precisely, another dimension."
"A dimension from which he can never return. What do you think?"
Constantine thought for a moment, then took out a sheet of paper and began drawing.
He sketched a magic circle and a small stick figure. The instant the figure touched the circle, Constantine completely blacked it out.
"Another dimension?"
"Could you explain that in more detail?"
Constantine's suggestion immediately captured everyone's interest.
"It's quite simple."
Seeing that everyone was now focused on him, Constantine began showing off his knowledge.
He launched into an explanation filled entirely with occult terminology.
The others listened in complete bewilderment, unable to understand a single word.
"I know none of you understood that!"
"But it doesn't matter. You only need to follow my instructions."
"Relax. No matter how powerful Jovian may be, he's still only an alien. When confronted with something like this, technology will be completely useless."
Constantine appeared extremely confident.
