The Viltrumite Across the Worlds
Chapter 312: The Prototype Justice League
"They've lost their minds! They've all lost their fucking minds!"
Countless high-ranking officials across the United States nearly suffered complete breakdowns after learning that not only had the entire Suicide Squad been wiped out, but their representative, Amanda Waller, had also been killed.
At that moment, they finally understood that they were less than worthless in Jovian's eyes.
If Jovian could kill Amanda, he could crush them just as easily.
Inside a pitch-black room, several high-ranking officials sat around a table. Every one of them wore a mask, and not even they knew one another's identities. That was the rule for entering this place. Their enemy was a god walking among men, and the slightest mistake could get every last one of them killed.
"That God Among Men is immune to bullets, missiles, and even nuclear weapons!"
"How are we supposed to kill something like that?!"
The officials in the room were utterly bewildered. They had originally placed their hopes in Amanda's metahuman program, using superhumans to fight superhumans. In reality, however, the difference between this world's superhumans could be just as vast as the differences between ordinary people, perhaps even greater.
"Everyone, perhaps we should approach this from a different angle."
The speaker wore a rabbit mask.
"First, we know that this god is immune to every weapon on Earth. Even the Kryptonite we believed could be used against him proved completely useless."
"I find that deeply regrettable, but those are the facts. We possess absolutely nothing capable of defeating him."
"So..."
The Rabbit's lips curled into a strange smile.
"So..."
The Fox began slowly edging backward.
"So what?!"
The people wearing elephant, tiger, and lion masks leaned closer.
"How about this?"
"We eliminate everyone who wants to kill the god."
"That would completely resolve the conflict between humanity and God!"
A strange light appeared in the Rabbit's eyes behind his mask.
"Fuck..."
The Tiger, Lion, and Elephant immediately tried to turn around after hearing the Rabbit's proposal, but it was already too late.
"Goodbye, my friends!"
The Rabbit pulled a machine gun from beneath the table and opened fire on the Rat, Lion, Elephant, and the other members.
"Ratatatatat!"
Gun smoke filled the air, and the meeting room fell silent.
"Now, let's put it to a vote!"
"Everyone in favor of adjourning this meeting, raise your hand!"
The Rabbit raised his hand high.
"Excellent! Mr. Rabbit has cast the deciding vote. In that case, this meeting is adjourned."
The Rabbit lowered his machine gun, stepped over the corpses, and pushed open the door. Before leaving, he thoughtfully tossed a grenade back into the room.
"Shit..."
The Fox, who had been playing dead, cursed when he saw the grenade rolling toward him.
"Boom!"
Flames engulfed the room, and everything inside became a thing of the past.
"Don't blame me."
"I saved humanity. I saved the world."
The Rabbit walked outside and discarded his mask.
He considered himself a hero. Humanity and Earth had come within an inch of facing the greatest crisis in history, and their opponent had been an invincible god living among mortals.
Flames raged as everything burned.
By the time the fire died, the animals' conspiracy to slay a god had been erased from existence.
Meanwhile, Jovian's secretary gently knocked on his office door before entering with a document.
"Mr. Jovian, this just arrived for you."
"Let me see..."
Jovian frowned slightly as he casually flipped through the file. It contained photographs of numerous government officials who had died gruesome deaths.
"Am I really that brutal?"
Jovian shook his head. He had not even begun purging them yet, but these people had already carried out the purge themselves.
That irritated him.
He therefore decided that, when he found the time, he would purge the people who had taken it upon themselves to purge the people he had intended to purge.
They had known about the conspiracy and failed to report it. That alone was a crime.
They wanted to wait and see which side won? Jovian had no time to let them sit on the fence. Those who refused to choose a side and those who chose the wrong side would all die.
"Mr. Jovian, a woman named Diana would like to see you."
Just as Jovian put away the file, his secretary knocked again and informed him of his visitor.
"Diana..."
"All right, send her in."
Jovian nodded gently.
Diana, the great Wonder Woman. Interesting.
He had not gone looking for her yet, but she had come to him of her own accord. He was curious to learn what she wanted.
A short while later, a woman with beautiful hair, a flawless face, and a stunning figure entered Jovian's office. She wore a form-fitting coat, and her long, shapely legs carried her gracefully across the room.
"What brings such a beautiful woman to my office?"
Jovian looked at her calmly, a faint smile on his face.
"Mr. Jovian."
"There are a few things I would like you to confirm."
Diana smiled and sat gracefully across from him. She opened the handbag she had brought with her and removed a USB drive.
"May I use your computer?"
"Of course."
Jovian turned the laptop on his desk around, inviting Diana to use it.
Still smiling, Diana approached Jovian and inserted the USB drive into the computer.
A series of images immediately appeared on the screen. They showed Jovian brutally slaughtering the Suicide Squad.
The final recording showed Harley Quinn intimately entangled with a man. The man's face never appeared, but his physique bore a strong resemblance to Jovian's.
"Mr. Jovian, is this you?"
Diana narrowed her eyes slightly as she questioned him.
"Of course not," Jovian answered without the slightest change in his expression. "You should know that I'm hardly the only Kryptonian in this world who can fly, fire energy beams from his eyes, and shrug off bullets. There's my brother Clark, my sworn enemy Thragg, the members of my race whom I rescued from that evil Kryptonian general, and all the Kryptonians who reached Earth long ago but chose to conceal their identities. Wow, there are simply far too many possibilities."
"That is precisely why I didn't attack you immediately."
"Instead, I came here to speak with you, my dear Mr. Jovian."
Diana smiled sweetly at him. She truly was extraordinarily beautiful, and her smile was especially charming.
"Then I really should thank you."
"But now that you've cleared everything up, I believe you can leave."
Jovian smiled and gestured toward the door.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Jovian, but there is one more thing I must ask of you before I leave."
Diana produced a golden rope.
"Please hold this lasso and repeat what you just told me."
"Hahahaha!"
"Miss Diana, I never expected you to be so superstitious."
"Still, if doing this will put your doubts to rest, then I'm willing to cooperate."
Jovian reached out and grasped the golden rope Diana offered him.
"Now, allow me to repeat myself. The man in that video, the one you just showed me, is absolutely not me."
Jovian smiled without the slightest change in his expression.
"Hmm..."
Even while holding Diana's Lasso of Truth, Jovian had delivered his denial with complete certainty.
Diana slowly breathed a sigh of relief, followed by a flash of anger. She never should have doubted the noble Mr. Jovian. Moreover, whoever had emailed her the footage clearly had malicious intentions.
"Hummm..."
As Diana considered this, the Lasso of Truth suddenly began trembling in her hand. It seemed desperate to escape Jovian's grasp.
Jovian's hand, however, held it like an iron vise, preventing it from slipping away.
As the lasso continued shaking, Jovian slowly tightened his grip.
Its golden radiance flickered repeatedly before beginning to fade. Eventually, the lasso lost all traces of its divine power. It turned black, brittle, and lifeless, as though it had become an ordinary piece of rope.
"This..."
Shock appeared in Diana's eyes, followed by disbelief and finally panic.
"Oh, my dear Miss Diana. Why do you look so frightened?"
Jovian smiled gently at her.
"No, it's nothing..."
Diana hurriedly stood, her eyes betraying her unease.
"I should leave."
She turned toward the office door.
"Grab!"
Before Diana could leave, a hand closed around her wrist with overwhelming force.
Diana trembled, and panic flashed across her face.
"Miss Diana, you don't look well. Why don't you stay and rest for a while?"
Jovian smiled as he made the suggestion.
"No, that won't be necessary..."
Diana shook her head. Her instincts warned her that something terrible would happen if she stayed.
"Sigh..."
Jovian sighed helplessly as he studied her guarded expression.
"Miss Diana, you really aren't being honest with me."
"That hurts me deeply. You're betraying the bond between us and destroying the trust we once shared."
Still holding Diana's wrist, Jovian continued sighing.
"You..."
Diana seemed to realize something. She turned and stared at Jovian in alarm.
"Miss Diana, haven't you already figured everything out?"
"Since you know the truth..."
"Why are you trying to run away?"
"Why don't you sit down and play a little game with me?"
Jovian exerted his immense strength and forcibly pulled Diana into his arms.
"Jovian, you despicable bastard..."
Diana glared at him and growled.
"Despicable?"
"You misunderstand me."
"I'm a hero."
With that, Jovian grabbed Diana, and the two of them vanished from the office.
On a private island not far from the United States, two figures descended from the sky with a deafening crash, blasting an enormous crater into the ground.
Immediately afterward, the entire island began shaking violently.
Elsewhere, Bruce Wayne walked down the street beside a handsome, androgynous man with reddish-brown hair.
"Who are we going to see?"
"Oh, great Bruce Wayne."
The brown-haired man spoke in a raspy voice, smiling at Gotham City's wealthiest man.
"People who are considered freaks, just like us."
"To defeat an overwhelmingly powerful enemy, we need equally powerful allies."
Bruce led the brown-haired man into an apartment. A girl group concert was playing on the television.
"Hey, I think you two have the wrong apartment."
While the two men examined the room, a voice silently appeared behind them.
"Whoosh!"
Without saying a word, Bruce pulled a Batarang from his pocket and hurled it toward the source of the voice.
"Hey..."
The moment the bat-shaped weapon left his hand, time itself seemed to freeze.
The young man stared wide-eyed at the Batarang as a possibility occurred to him.
"You're Batman?!"
He casually reached out, caught the Batarang, and looked at Bruce.
"You're fast."
Bruce neither confirmed nor denied the accusation. He simply studied the young man.
"Uh, I'm not that fast..."
The young man hesitated, uncertain how he should answer.
"Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha."
The brown-haired man standing beside Bruce suddenly began laughing strangely.
"Wait, wait..."
"If you're Batman, then, oh my God! You're the Joker!"
"You really are working together?!"
The young man froze, then began looking nervous.
"No."
"There are circumstances behind this."
"Just come with us for now. We don't have much time."
Bruce glanced at his watch and raised an eyebrow slightly.
There were only six hours remaining before the God Among Men went on a rampage. Bruce needed to assemble his entire team within those six hours.
Diana would have to endure a little hardship, but that was what she got for refusing to believe him.
"Wait..."
"I'm not going anywhere with you!"
The young man shook his head.
"I'm offering you a job that pays one hundred thousand dollars a month."
"A legitimate job."
Bruce shoved an employment contract into the young man's arms.
"Oh my God!"
The young man stared wide-eyed at the document.
"Hello, my name is..."
He tried to formally introduce himself.
"I already told you, we don't have time to waste, my dear Barry Allen."
Bruce gently patted the young man on the shoulder before walking out of the apartment.
"Hahahahaha!"
The Joker followed him, laughing mockingly at Barry on his way out.
"Wait for me..."
Barry scratched his hair, then hurried after Bruce.
