The Villainess Is My Cute Daughter
Chapter 388: What’s So Different About You?
It was nighttime, and the magical lights illuminating the newly paved streets were pretty colorful. Well, technically the lights only glowed in one soft, yellowish color, but the bustling atmosphere of the massive crowds made the entire city feel incredibly vibrant and lively.
Seeing his people so happy, Adrian couldn’t help but smile.
He turned away from the window, walked out of his office, and went straight down the hallway to his secure underground room.
The room was completely empty.
Adrian brought out a heavy steel plate covered in intricate runes from his spatial storage and placed it flat on the ground. He sat down cross-legged directly on top of it. He pulled out a mana crystal and carefully placed it onto one of the carved corners.
The steel plate instantly glowed with a blinding light, and Adrian felt a familiar, weightless sensation.
He opened his eyes and found himself in a slightly familiar, dream-like place.
He was standing in a massive, endless expanse of vibrant green grasslands that extended in all directions. He was standing right at the very top of a small, rolling hill. He looked up at the perfectly blue sky and glanced to the sides, only to see that there was absolutely no one nearby.
He took a deep breath and opened his mouth.
"Miss Dragon of Prosperity," Adrian called out. "Could you please show yourself? I have something very important that I wish to talk to you about."
Just as he finished speaking the words, he felt a sudden presence materialize directly behind him.
He immediately turned around and saw the impossibly tall, breathtakingly beautiful woman standing there in the grass.
Adrian bowed slightly.
"I am extremely happy to see you," Adrian said respectfully. "I honestly thought that you might not want to meet me or allow me into your domain after what I just experienced. I thought that maybe you would be against me now."
The Dragon just shook her head softly.
"Well, I am the protector of this planet, and I am a strictly neutral party," the Dragon replied smoothly. "So there is nothing for you to worry about regarding my allegiance. And I also know exactly why you are here today."
Adrian nodded. "Yes. I just want a few answers."
The Dragon nodded. "Well, state your questions."
"Don’t you already know exactly what my questions are?" Adrian asked with a raised eyebrow.
The Dragon just shrugged elegantly. "Well, even though I already know everything you want to ask, I would still very much like to have a proper conversation with you."
Adrian just chuckled. "Okay, fine. Well, I just wanted to know what the hell is actually going on. That Apostle told me that I am an anomaly. But I personally suspect that the real reason why the Heavens sent him after me is because of something entirely related to karma, or fate, or whatever invisible system this world runs on."
Adrian gestured around him.
"After all, it looks like I have accidentally saved a lot of people in Oresfall and drastically changed their predetermined fates," Adrian continued. "So I should have accumulated a massive amount of good karma by now. Maybe their attack is related to that?"
The Dragon nodded slowly. She raised her hand and casually snapped her fingers.
A small, elegant circular table materialized in the grass between them, along with two comfortable chairs. She gracefully sat down on one of the chairs and gestured politely toward the other.
Adrian walked over and sat down.
She raised her hand again. A delicate porcelain teapot and two matching teacups appeared on the table. The teapot magically floated up on its own, tilted forward, and poured steaming, fragrant tea into one of the cups before smoothly moving to fill the other.
The Dragon looked at Adrian and gestured toward his cup. Adrian picked it up, while the Dragon picked up her own. She took a slow, elegant sip while Adrian watched her carefully, and then Adrian finally took a sip of his own tea.
The Dragon gently set her cup down and finally started talking.
"Well, you are an anomaly," the Dragon stated clearly. "That part wasn’t wrong. It’s just that the Angels think they are lying to you. They think they are basically just making up a valid reason to put you down so they can maintain their control over the mortal realm. But it is fundamentally true. You are an anomaly and they just don’t know that their reasons might actually be grounded in truth."
Adrian frowned as he heard this.
"Could you please explain exactly how I’m an anomaly?" Adrian asked.
The Dragon just smiled playfully and looked at him.
"What makes you intrinsically different from all the other summoned transmigrators?" the Dragon countered.
Adrian bit his lower lip.
"So even you know about that?" Adrian asked quietly. "Since how long did you know?"
"Well, ever since you first came here to visit me," the Dragon answered easily. "A foreign soul signature is really, really hard to hide. At least, it is from someone like me. And I would also like to bring something very important to your awareness."
She leaned forward slightly.
"The original soul that was natively connected to the body you currently pilot is still resting deep within you," the Dragon revealed. "It has just taken a permanent back seat in your consciousness, and you don’t even know it’s there. But of course, there is absolutely nothing that this dormant soul can do at this moment to hinder you. I don’t think it can do anything in the future either. It is completely asleep. But, we never know how the future will unfold."
Adrian’s eyes widened slightly, but the Dragon kept speaking.
"But I feel like there is something else that you desperately wish to know," the Dragon continued. "And that is the definitive answer to what exactly makes you different from the other transmigrators. Yes or no? Or, I feel like maybe you already have a solid guess as to what makes you so different."
