The military district had fallen into an unnatural, suffocating silence. Hundreds of elite Sentinels stood completely motionless across the academy grounds, their heads turned toward the exact same distant point in the sky.

Every biological instinct within them was locking onto her elevated coordinates. They were all staring toward the orbital flagship, toward Rhaevia. Inside the flagship’s medical bay, however, the situation was infinitely more dangerous.

Major General Raevor Veyr remained standing before her. Barely. His polished military boots were planted firmly against the vibrating metallic deck, but every muscle in his towering body had tightened under the overwhelming pressure radiating from Rhaevia’s core.

His legendary 3S Sentinel pathways were operating at their absolute biological limit to withstand the assault. Sweat slowly traced down his pale temple, glistening under the flickering emergency lights.

His breathing grew heavier with each passing second as the invisible shockwaves slammed against his chest. Yet, despite his body threatening to collapse, he refused to retreat a single step.

Rhaevia noticed his stubborn stance, her glowing blue eyes fixed on his rigid frame.

"Why are you still standing?" she asked. Her voice sounded strangely distant, floating through the room as though she were speaking from beneath a vast, dark ocean.

Raevor slowly lifted his eyes toward her, forcing his jaw to unlock.

"Because someone has to remain here," he answered, his deep voice strained but steady.

"Leave," Rhaevia commanded softly, her mental aura flaring.

"No," Raevor replied. The single-word answer was immediate, devoid of any hesitation.

Rhaevia’s brows furrowed as she struggled against the tide within her soul.

"I can’t control this energy," she warned him, her voice trembling.

"I know," Raevor said, taking a half-step forward against the force.

"You could be severely injured," she pressed, her dark pupils flashing with blue light.

"I know," he repeated flatly.

Her mental pressure surged violently once more, expanding outward in a blinding flash. A low, thunderous boom reverberated through the hull plates. Raevor’s knees suddenly buckled under the exponential increase in gravity-like pressure.

One calloused hand slammed heavily against the metallic floor to arrest his fall, the deck plates groaning beneath his palm. For the very first time in recorded Imperial history, the undefeated Major General Veyr had fallen to one knee.

Rhaevia’s eyes widened in genuine shock at the sight.

"Raevor!" she gasped out.

He slowly raised his head, his dark eyes meeting hers through the shimmering haze of raw power.

"I’m fine," he forced out.

"You don’t look fine," Rhaevia countered, her breath catching.

A faint, humorless smile touched his tight lips for a fraction of a second.

"I’ve looked worse on the battlefield," he murmured.

Rhaevia could feel the terrifying truth beneath his stoic facade. His mental defenses were cracking open under the strain, unable to keep her out. The overwhelming resonance between their 3S cores was forcing its way through every protective layer of his Sentinel consciousness.

She instinctively reached out toward him, her hand extending into the space between them. The second her mental energy brushed against his raw mind, reality shattered.

Everything around them disappeared into absolute darkness. Raevor was gone, the ruined medical bay was gone, and the giant flagship had vanished into thin air.

Rhaevia suddenly stood inside a vivid memory.

A small boy stood entirely alone in the center of a vast, sterile military courtyard. He couldn’t have been more than seven years old. His black hair was neatly combed, and his dark blue uniform was fitted with flawless, unnatural perfection.

Around the perimeter stood towering adults wearing high-ranking military insignia. Not a single person smiled. A stern, commanding voice echoed coldly across the open courtyard.

"Again," the instructor ordered.

The young boy raised his trembling hand, his tiny fingers wrapping around a heavy training weapon that materialized in his grip.

"Again," the cold voice barked without a trace of mercy.

The boy attacked with all his strength, but he was struck down violently. He fell hard against the stone deck. He pushed himself up. He stood straight, wiped the blood from his lip, and attacked again.

Rhaevia’s chest tightened as she watched the child. He had been trained like a ruthless soldier long before he was old enough to understand what war truly meant.

The surrounding scene blurred, shifting rapidly through time.

A teenager now stood in the center of a active battlefield. Thick, acrid smoke covered the ruined sky, and towering flames consumed destroyed military transport vehicles. Broken bodies lay scattered across the scorched earth.

Raevor was older now, his frame taller and broader. Dark blood splattered his uniform, and his young eyes were already turning cold and unreadable.

A severely wounded soldier reached out a trembling, blood-soaked hand toward him from the dirt.

"General..." the soldier choked out.

Raevor immediately knelt beside the dying man. Before he could apply a medical patch, the soldier’s hand fell lifelessly back into the dust. Raevor gently reached out and closed the fallen man’s eyes.

Then, he stood back up. There was no scream of agony. There were no tears in his eyes. There was only a suffocating, heavy silence.

The memory shifted once more, speeding forward. Years passed in fractions of a second.

Raevor stood upon countless brutal battlefields across the galaxy.

He fought across toxic Zerg worlds, walked through burning human colonies, and defended destroyed military space stations. Every single battlefield left another invisible scar upon his soul. Every bitter victory demanded another unspeakable sacrifice.

Yet every time the surviving soldiers around him celebrated their miraculous survival, Raevor stood completely alone at the perimeter.

The vision settled into a quiet scene inside an empty command room following a major fleet engagement. Everyone else had long since departed to celebrate.

Raevor sat in absolute silence, staring blankly at a cup of untouched, cold tea resting on the Holo-Table. His broad shoulders were locked in a rigid posture, and his dark eyes were hollow with sheer exhaustion.

No one was there to speak to him. No one was there to ask whether he was physically or mentally hurt. No one was there to tell him he had done enough for the Empire.

The vision dissolved, shifting one final time.

Raevor stood in a darkened hall before a massive, glowing memorial wall. Hundreds of thousands of fallen military names were engraved across the black glass.

He stepped forward and carefully placed a small, silver military insignia beneath one of the fresh names. His calloused fingers lingered against the cold surface for several long seconds.

"I’m sorry," he whispered into the empty room, his voice barely audible.

Then, he turned around and walked away into the dark corridor, completely alone.

Rhaevia’s heart clenched with a sudden, sharp ache. She understood the truth now.

The terrifying, untouchable Major General. The youngest general in Imperial history. The legendary 3S Sentinel who never hesitated on the battlefield.

He had spent his entire life becoming someone who could never afford to fall. He was not allowed to show weakness, because every single time he failed or fell, someone else died.

The vision suddenly shattered into a million sparkling fragments.

Rhaevia returned to the physical world of the medical bay, gasping loudly for air.

Raevor was still kneeling directly before her on the deck. His head was lowered, his heavy breathing uneven as his body shuddered under the strain. His absolute mental defenses had finally broken open for a single, fleeting microsecond.

Slowly, his dark eyes lifted to meet hers. His strict expression subtly changed as he read the sudden shift in her gaze. He knew instantly.

"You saw," Raevor stated quietly, his voice raspy.

Rhaevia found herself momentarily unable to speak. She had just witnessed private memories he had never shared with a single soul in the Empire.

She had seen his isolated childhood, his gruesome battles, his dead comrades, and his profound loneliness. She had felt the unbearable weight he carried every day without allowing anyone to witness it.

Raevor slowly forced himself back up to his feet, though his broad frame visibly trembled beneath the mental strain.

"That was not meant for you to see, Cadet," he said, trying to restore his usual cold tone.

Rhaevia stared up at him in silence. For the very first time, she didn’t see the formidable Major General who commanded fleets.

She saw the lonely, exhausted boy hidden beneath the dark blue uniform. And deep inside her chest, something hurt for him. Her uncontrolled, brilliant mental energy continued to tremble in the air between them.

Rhaevia took a small step closer to him, her voice emerging as barely more than a soft whisper.

"Raevor..." she called out.

His dark, piercing eyes lifted toward hers once more.

Her usual cold, unbothered gaze softened completely.

"You’re afraid," she noted quietly, reaching out to touch his arm.
