Chapter 90: 90 fierce battle

fierce battle

While the five cultivators fought, the battle below became even more violent.

The five thousand soldiers had lost the possibility of retreating, and that changed everything.

The Lizardmen began using their shields to form defensive walls.

The Beastmen tried to break through the Medusas’ lines through sheer force, but the Medusas no longer needed to retreat.

The archers fired from the slopes, and the poisoned arrows descended like rain.

A group of Beastmen raised their shields, and the arrows struck. Some pierced through.

Others became lodged in their bodies. One of the soldiers pulled an arrow from his shoulder.

His expression changed.

"Poison..."

His body began to lose strength when a Medusa appeared before him, her sword piercing through his chest.

At the same time, a group of Lizardman Profound Elemental cultivators advanced against the warriors.

Their spears were wrapped in spiritual energy, and one of them pierced a Medusa’s shoulder.

Another warrior responded by concentrating energy into her tail and striking the attacker with enough force to break his ribs.

Both sides fought with everything they possessed. These were not ordinary soldiers.

Even the cultivators of the lower levels were capable of leaping, running, and attacking with strength far beyond that of a normal body.

It was then that an even greater presence emerged.

Thesira walked into the center of the battlefield, and several warriors looked toward her.

"Elder!"

She did not answer. Her face was pale.

The spiritual energy within her body had decreased considerably, but there was still enough power remaining.

She raised her sword as a group of Beastmen advanced toward dozens of Medusas.

Thesira disappeared, and in the next instant, she appeared in the middle of them.

Her sword swung.

Once.

The blade swept through the formation, and dozens of bodies were thrown into the air at the same time.

Some were cut apart, while others were simply crushed by the spiritual pressure of the strike.

Thesira did not stop. Suddenly, her beautiful eyes turned green, and spiritual energy gathered within her gaze.

Two beams struck the battlefield.

Then four.

Then eight.

The soldiers who were hit began to harden. Their legs became immobile.

Their arms petrified.

Within a few seconds, dozens of Beastmen and Lizardmen had been transformed into statues.

A Medusa warrior passed between them, her sword destroying three statues at once.

Thesira breathed heavily. Her face had become even paler, and one of the battalion leaders rushed toward her.

"You’ve already spent too much energy."

Thesira did not look at her.

"If I stop now, they’ll advance."

The leader tightened her grip on her weapon.

"Then I’ll stay and help."

Thesira finally turned her face toward her.

"Don’t expose yourself."

"I’m not asking for your permission."

The leader entered the battlefield.

She did not possess the same strength as the three new cultivators fighting the generals, but her level was enough to face the lower-level cultivators who were trying to break through.

Her presence immediately changed the battlefield as she broke through a formation of Lizardmen.

Her spiritual attack sent several soldiers flying before she turned and intercepted a group of Profound Elemental cultivators.

"You won’t pass."

The first attacked, but she blocked him. The second tried to strike her flank.

She spun around.

Her tail struck the enemy’s chest, sending the Lizardman flying.

The nearby Medusas immediately advanced.

Now there was a line.

A line that the five thousand soldiers, whose numbers were rapidly decreasing, could no longer break through.

Atop one of the formations, Ariselle watched the battle unfold. The queen had not drawn her weapon.

Beside her, the other elders remained silent, their eyes following every movement.

One of them spoke:

"It’s working."

Ariselle did not answer immediately. She simply watched the three new cultivators fighting two opponents of the same level.

The difference was still clear: two against three. Even so, Varkhan and Rhaena were not easy opponents.

"Don’t interfere. Let them deal with them for now."

One of the elders looked at her.

"Even if they’re in danger?"

"They need to learn."

Ariselle continued watching.

"If we enter now, we’ll waste the advantage the necromancer created for us."

The battle continued below. Elyra was struck in the shoulder, Kaelia received a deep cut along her side, and at the same time, Lyssara’s face was scratched by one of Rhaena’s swords.

But none of them fell.

On the contrary.

With every passing minute, they learned to fight better together.

"Rhaena!"

"I know!"

"Separate one of them!"

"I’m trying!"

Rhaena charged toward Lyssara.

Varkhan attacked Kaelia.

Elyra tried to intervene.

Rhaena changed direction.

Her body spun.

The two swords crossed through the air.

Elyra blocked one.

The second struck her abdomen.

She retreated.

Lyssara tried to take advantage of the opening, but Varkhan appeared before her. His fist struck.

Lyssara managed to block with spiritual energy, but she was still sent flying dozens of meters.

Varkhan took a deep breath.

"You are strong."

He looked at the three of them.

"But you’re still new to this level."

Elyra slowly rose.

"Perhaps."

Kaelia wiped away the blood.

"But you forgot one thing."

Varkhan frowned.

"What?"

Lyssara pointed downward.

Varkhan looked.

His expression changed.

The five thousand soldiers were no longer advancing. They were surrounded, and their total number had decreased drastically.

The Medusas’ formation had completely closed, and corpses covered parts of the strait.

Hundreds of Beastmen and Lizardmen had fallen, while others were wounded.

Some had been petrified, and more Medusas continued arriving from the mountains.

Varkhan understood.

The fight against the three was not the real problem.

The real problem was time.

Every minute made the five thousand weaker, while the dead continued to accumulate.

Every minute gave the Medusas more space. Every minute consumed the strength of the forces trapped inside the strait.

Rhaena realized it as well.

"Varkhan."

He did not answer.

"We need to get out."

Varkhan looked at the barrier, then at the battlefield, and finally at the three cultivators.

His face finally lost its arrogance.

"No."

Rhaena narrowed her eyes.

"No?"

"We can’t get out."

He clenched his fist.

"We’re trapped, and I don’t know how long they can maintain the formation."

In the distance, Ariselle finally spoke. Her voice was not loud, but the spiritual formations carried her words throughout the strait.

"Yes."

All the soldiers heard the queen as she advanced a few steps, while the elders remained behind her.

Thousands of Medusas were positioned throughout the mountains.

Ariselle looked directly at what remained of the five thousand enemies.

"You entered of your own will."

Silence descended over the battlefield. ℯℯ𝑙.

"Now you will leave only when we allow you to."

Varkhan raised his eyes.

He finally realized the true extent of the mistake he had made.

And the five thousand soldiers who had seemed to represent only a portion of the invading force had just become the target of a battle prepared specifically to destroy them.

The Medusas advanced once again, and the sound of thousands of footsteps echoed through the strait.

The Beastmen roared.

The Lizardmen raised their shields.

Spiritual techniques began exploding everywhere, and at the center of it all, the five tenth-stage cultivators continued fighting.

The true battle for the strait had only just begun.
