116 The fire elementals enter the war.
Being the only general left, Drazek did not retreat. He simply looked at Nysara and Kaelia, then at the corpses of his fallen companions, unable to believe what he was seeing.
His expression became completely different from the arrogance he usually displayed.
Now there was only hatred.
He tightened his grip on his spear and roared toward the army behind him.
"KILL THEM ALL!"
His roar spread across the entire battlefield, and the soldiers began advancing again.
Then a different roar interrupted everything.
It did not come from the Beastmen or the Lizardmen.
Flames suddenly appeared between the mountains, and two figures walked through the smoke.
They were humanoid, and their bodies had proportions similar to those of humans, but their skin was completely red, like heated metal.
Living flames covered their hair, shoulders, and arms.
The first Elemental was tall and muscular, wearing only dark protection over his chest and small metal plates on his arms.
His eyes glowed like burning coals.
The second was slightly thinner.
His body was covered in marks resembling glowing cracks, through which small flames escaped.
Both walked barefoot over the stones, and the rocks beneath their feet began to turn black.
"What an interesting battle. Didn’t you Medusas used to rank second among the three forces?"
The second one opened his mouth.
Small flames escaped between his teeth.
"Finally, something fun to do. I was getting tired of waiting. These troglodytes can’t even handle something this easy despite having absolute numerical superiority."
Drazek looked at them.
"Elementals, you finally decided to act. Why did you wait until my comrades died before finally intervening?"
"My name is Rakan. Remember that name the next time you speak to me."
The second one raised a hand.
"And I am Saro."
The Elemental Rakan looked at the corpses of the three generals.
"You left only one piece of trash standing. Very well. I’m sorry, but that’s the most you can do today."
Saro laughed.
"Then let’s help."
Nysara narrowed her eyes.
"You said you would remain neutral in this war, yet you decided to attack our side. Why?"
Rakan began walking.
"We owe you no explanations. The plans of the Elementals are none of the business of you dying Medusas."
The flames around his body grew as if fuel had been poured over them.
"Wait."
Rakan moved so quickly that he disappeared from everyone’s sight.
His fist struck Drazek in the chest, and an explosion of fire accompanied the impact.
The Lizardman’s armor immediately deformed as his body was sent flying dozens of meters.
Drazek smashed through two rocky formations before falling and never getting back up.
Rakan looked at Nysara and Kaelia.
"Now we can focus on the two of you."
Kaelia advanced first, fearless as always.
Her body disappeared at high speed, using her agility.
Spiritual energy surged through her legs, considerably increasing her speed.
When she appeared in front of the Elemental Rakan, her fist was already covered in a concentrated layer of spiritual energy.
She struck with all her strength, but Rakan merely raised his arm, and a wall of fire appeared.
Kaelia’s fist pierced through part of the flames, but the fire struck her body, burning her skin.
She screamed loudly as she was thrown backward and fell to her knees.
Nysara advanced.
"KAELIA!"
Rakan turned almost instantly and revealed a hand covered in flames that struck the Elder in the abdomen.
BOOM!
Nysara was thrown against the mountain as the flames exploded violently.
She fell among the rubble.
Kaelia tried to stand, but the Elemental Saro appeared in front of her.
The Fire Elemental tilted his head.
"Can you still fight?"
Kaelia spat blood into her enemy’s face.
"You son of a bitch."
She attacked, but Saro grabbed her arm, and flames wrapped around her body.
Kaelia tried to release spiritual energy to push him away, but an explosion erupted around the two of them.
But Saro did not release her.
The flames slowly began consuming her spiritual defense.
Kaelia screamed.
Her skin became covered in burns, but even so, she continued trying to escape.
Saro tightened his grip.
"Let’s see how much you can endure."
The flames intensified, burning the joints of Kaelia’s arm.
Kaelia lost strength as her arm dropped, engulfed in flames.
Her body began to collapse.
"KAELIA!"
She tried to get up and continue fighting, but her body did not respond immediately.
Kaelia looked at the Elder one last time, and a small smile appeared on her face.
"Elder..."
Her voice almost disappeared.
"Protect... the others."
The flames completely covered her body, filling the air with the smell of burning flesh.
Nysara stood motionless.
For an instant, the battlefield seemed to disappear from her vision.
She had seen hundreds of warriors die before her eyes.
But Kaelia was not just another warrior.
She was one of the cultivators who had reached the tenth level of the Profound Nascence Realm and, therefore, was an important trump card for her people.
A young woman who had fought alongside them was now dead.
Nysara closed her eyes.
When she opened them again, tears mixed with blood covered her face.
She slowly stood up.
Her body was covered in wounds, and her armor was broken in several places.
Part of her shoulder was exposed, and blood was still running down her face.
Behind her, approximately five hundred Medusas were still standing.
Nysara looked at them.
Some were crying, while others held their weapons with trembling hands.
A young warrior stepped forward.
"Elder..."
Nysara raised her sword.
"Stay behind me."
"But..."
"I said..."
Her voice became firmer.
"...stay behind me."
The survivors obeyed.
They all gathered behind the Elder.
Nysara knew the truth.
She could not win this battle, or even the war.
Her spiritual energy was almost exhausted, her body was destroyed, and her last pill had already been used.
Even so, she remained standing before them.
Rakan slowly walked toward her, flames wrapping around his arms.
Nysara raised her sword with trembling hands, but her blade remained steady.
She looked one last time at the five hundred warriors who depended on her.
She charged, attacking with all the strength she had left.
At the same time, the Elemental counterattacked.
The two forces collided.
The entire mountain trembled as Nysara concentrated all her remaining spiritual energy into her sword.
The blade pierced through the flames and struck Rakan’s shoulder.
Dark red blood appeared.
For an instant, the Fire Elemental seemed surprised.
Then his fist struck Nysara’s chest with immense force, filled with anger and disdain.
The Elder’s sword fell first.
Then her body was thrown backward.
She fell before the survivors, her chest pierced all the way through to her back.
Nysara tried to breathe, but her lungs had been destroyed.
Her eyes remained open for several seconds.
She looked at the Medusas before her body finally became motionless.
Nysara died before them.
No one managed to scream.
Only a heavy silence remained, heavier than any explosion.
