Chapter 389: Chapter 386: Lu Wen Jie’s Strength

Meanwhile, the Mage from the Celestial Eagle Team who had been guarding the entrance had just finished his breakfast. The moment he stepped outside, he was met with the sight of a chaotic battle.

When he got a clear look at Feng Hao, he immediately shouted, "Damn it, that Bishop is a fake! Everyone, get him! Don’t let him escape!"

Unfortunately, Feng Hao and Yun Jiansong had already carved a bloody path and successfully broken out of the camp’s perimeter.

The crowd of Root-cutting Mages was about to give chase when they suddenly felt their stomachs churn, the urge to defecate instantly consuming their thoughts.

"Shit, what’s going on? I need to take a dump! You guys keep chasing!"

The words had barely left his mouth when a series of farts echoed from all around. It was a truly spectacular scene. The poor Root-cutting Mages looked at each other, their faces instantly turning ashen.

They watched as Feng Hao and Yun Jiansong got further and further away, but they were completely incapable of giving chase. Clutching their stomachs, they scrambled for the camp’s latrines.

At the same time, the artillery barrage that had lasted all night also mysteriously stopped. It couldn’t be helped; the gunners operating the cannons had also been afflicted.

Inside the main tent, the middle-aged man and Lu Wen Jie hadn’t been affected, as they had drunk themselves into a stupor the previous night.

The chaotic sounds from outside the tent startled them from their sleep.

However, when they rushed out of the tent, they were met with a ghastly sight. The entire camp was a scene of utter misery, the air thick with a foul stench. Countless Root-cutting Mages were sprawled on the ground, clutching their stomachs. Some were so drained they couldn’t even open their eyes.

"What’s going on?" the middle-aged man’s expression darkened as he angrily grabbed one of his men and demanded an answer.

The poor subordinate could only struggle to suppress the churning in his gut as he haltingly recounted what had just happened.

After hearing his subordinate’s report, the middle-aged man’s face turned livid. He gritted his teeth and roared, "Damn it! It seems the news of our attack on Five States City has leaked! Useless! What a bunch of useless trash!"

"Then what should we do now?" Lu Wen Jie asked, frowning.

"The situation has changed; we have to adjust the plan of attack," the middle-aged man said, his jaw tight. "It won’t be long before reinforcements from the major sects arrive. We must find a way to take Five States City before they get here."

Lu Wen Jie considered this for a moment, then glanced at the chaos around them and gave a wry smile. "In their current condition, are they even able to fight?"

"It doesn’t matter. The main force is inside the city. It makes no difference whether this bunch of trash lives or dies." The middle-aged man snorted, his powerful Divine Sense instantly spreading out and locking onto the position of Feng Hao and his companion. "Wen Jie, you stay here in the camp. I’ll go eliminate those two wretched brats myself."

Hearing this, Lu Wen Jie’s expression flickered. As if an idea had struck him, he quickly volunteered, "They’re just two brats. Is there any need for the Holy Envoy to handle them personally? Let me go instead. It would be better for you to remain here and oversee the larger situation."

"That’s true." The middle-aged man chuckled. "You can’t go back empty-handed after coming all this way. I’ll leave those two brats to you."

"Thank you, Holy Envoy," Lu Wen Jie said quietly. He then took to the air, speeding off in the direction Feng Hao had fled.

...

Meanwhile, after bursting out of the Root Cutting Sect camp, Feng Hao and his companion sprinted for their lives. Looking back at the Root-cutting Mages being ravaged by his "Unstoppable Diarrhea," Feng Hao couldn’t help but roar with laughter.

Seeing that the enemy wasn’t in pursuit, Yun Jiansong heaved a sigh of relief. He kept sprinting as he asked Feng Hao, "By the way, Brother Feng, what are you doing here? And why are you wearing the robes of the True God Sect?"

"I was about to ask you the same thing!" Feng Hao shot him an exasperated look, then briefly explained the situation in Five States City.

After hearing Feng Hao’s explanation, Yun Jiansong’s expression instantly darkened. "Damn it! If I’d known, I would’ve killed more of them back there!"

"Let’s not worry about that for now. Tell me about you. How did you end up in the Root Cutting Sect camp, anyway?" Feng Hao asked, curious.

Yun Jiansong gave a helpless, wry smile. "I’ve been out training for a while. I was planning on heading back to the academy for the New Year, but as soon as I got near Five States City, I realized something was wrong. I finally found an entrance, only to be surrounded by a group of Root-cutting Mages. And well, you know the rest."

"Well, talk about bad timing." Feng Hao shook his head. ’I have to say, you picked a terrible time to come back.’

"What? Are you not pleased to see me, Brother Feng?" Yun Jiansong asked, frowning.

"That’s not it at all. It’s just that the situation in Five States City is grim right now. For you to come back so recklessly... it’s just..." Feng Hao sighed.

Hearing this, Yun Jiansong brandished the Longsword in his hand and declared proudly, "Brother Feng, this isn’t about you not welcoming me. You’re looking down on me!"

"Alright, forget I said anything." Feng Hao shook his head, unsure whether to laugh or cry. ’Yun Jiansong is certainly full of pride, but I guess that’s not surprising. A lot of incredible swordsmen have the same damn flaw.’

HUMMM—!

Just as the two were letting their guard down, thinking no one was coming after them, a powerful surge of Magic Power suddenly enveloped them.

Rings of blue-black light closed in on them from all directions. Wherever the light passed, great patches of vegetation withered and died in an instant, and an aura of destruction permeated the air.

This sudden turn of events shocked them both. They tightened their grips on their weapons and scanned their surroundings with cold expressions.

"What a terrifying Secret Technique. Whoever this is, they’re not to be trifled with," Yun Jiansong said, his expression grim.

Sensing the terrifying fluctuations of magic power around them, Feng Hao also gave a wry smile. "Looks like it’s a real question whether the two of us will make it out of this alive today."

"It’s fine. If we work together, we should be able to handle an ordinary Seventh Rank Mage," Yun Jiansong said after a moment of thought.

Feng Hao didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Do these fluctuations of magic power feel like a Seventh Rank Mage to you? I’d bet it’s an Eighth-rank Mage at a minimum, possibly even a Ninth-rank Mage."

"..." Yun Jiansong was left speechless.

Just as the two were exchanging wry, helpless looks, the contracting rings of light suddenly halted. Then, an agile figure shot out from behind them—it was their pursuer, Lu Wen Jie.

"It really is you." Upon confirming it was Feng Hao, the cold look on Lu Wen Jie’s face softened slightly.

Feng Hao, however, was stunned to see him. Eyes wide with disbelief, he exclaimed, "Holy crap! Aren’t you that kid from Yuanfu Town? You’re the one who cast this Secret Technique?"

Beside him, Yun Jiansong also exclaimed in shock, "He’s only a Sixth-rank? Huh? Brother Feng, you know him?"

Seeing Feng Hao’s astonishment, Lu Wen Jie gave a bashful smile. "I am the one who cast it. You can relax, Brother Feng. There’s no one else with me."

Hearing this, Feng Hao finally breathed a sigh of relief. He asked in astonishment, "My god, how did you get so powerful?!"

"Because I awakened my own Genetic Tree," Lu Wen Jie said with a faint smile.

"What?" Feng Hao’s eyes flew wide as he stared at Lu Wen Jie in utter disbelief.

To someone who didn’t know the context, that sentence might not have sounded like anything special. But to Feng Hao, it was as shocking as a bolt from the blue.

If he remembered correctly, when he had rescued Lu Wen Jie, the boy was already an artificially created Fifth-rank Mage.

And now, he had actually awakened his own Genetic Tree. Didn’t that mean...?
