The velvet canopy above seemed to shrink, trapping the heavy, copper-laced scent of the wine in the small space between their faces.

Florianthum did not look at him. She couldn’t.

Instead, she let her gaze drop to the dark satin pillows, her long, snow-white hair spilling across the fabric. Her fingers twitched against the sheets, her shoulders drawing inward as if she were trying to make herself smaller, more fragile, beneath the absolute weight of his stare.

"The thing is..." she began.

The words caught in the back of her dry throat. She let out a shallow, shaky breath, her jaw tightening as she struggled to force the next syllable out. It was a calculated display of vulnerability, a rare fracture in the stoic warrior armor she always wore in his presence.

"My..."

Before the word could fully leave her lips, the lazy, patronizing aura surrounding Vilucious vanished. The change was instantaneous and electric. His fluid, light grey irises seemed to sharpen, the pale color catching the flickering orange firelight until they practically lit up with a sudden, intense seriousness.

The royal coldness dropped away, replaced by a dark, consuming concern that made the air in the room turn completely still.

He didn’t just touch her; he moved with a sudden, demanding speed. His long, dark-gloved hand closed tightly over hers, his fingers wrapping completely around her palm.

His other hand, heavy with ornate gold rings, clamped down over her opposite wrist, pinning her hands between them against the silk blankets.

The grip wasn’t meant to hurt, but it was absolute- a desperate, possessive hold that demanded she look at him.

Florianthum slowly started to move, slipping her hands out of his tightening grasp with a gentle, cautious precision. She shifted her weight, easing herself up until she was sitting on the edge of the massive bed, her back straight but every muscle quiet.

Vilucious didn’t try to pull her back down. Instead, he let his frame sink backward, resting his head in a fully comfortable, lazy manner against the plush royal pillows.

His sharp grey eyes lingered on her silhouette for just a brief second before he closed them completely, his features settling into a mask of serene, untroubled calm.

Florianthum kept her soft hazel eyes fixed on him, watching the calm rise and fall of his chest.

"The truth is... my body is bleeding," she said, her voice dropping to a fragile, hesitant whisper as she looked away.

"My monthly cycle has begun... the lining is shedding. That is why I..."

Vilucious opened his eyes, his gaze steady with a calm, quiet concern. He shifted his weight and sat up beside her once more, reaching out to gently take her hand back into his own.

With a soft, measured tone, he spoke: "Look at me!"

He added, "This is all entirely new to you, isn’t it? Your first time here, in this realm... right?"

Florianthum gently lifted her gaze, meeting his eyes with a perfect, quiet submission. Deep down, a cold spark of satisfaction flared; she truly believed her plan had worked.

She nodded softly, allowing a look of total innocence to settle over her features, a flawless shield meant to blind a ruthless king.Yet, she did not truly understand the depths of greed and lust that real cruelty could reach.

In her mind, this was a completely unique, alien world, and this specific excuse was the safest card she could play. She placed her full trust in the lie, completely unaware of the line she had just crossed.

Vilucious’s grip tightened just a fraction, his thumb tracing a slow circle over her knuckles as a faint, sharp smile touched his lips.

"Then we shall share the cleansing pools," he murmured, his high-pitched voice humming with a sudden, dark clarity.

"In this realm, the first purging of the blood is a sacred transition. It is a sign of pure renewal, an occasion that must be honored. Let the waters wash away the dirt of the courtyard."

Florianthum froze, the air catching sharply in her chest. She hadn’t expected this. Every calculation she had made, every rule of the world she knew, had just been completely upended by the twisted logic of his realm.

Florianthum forced her chin up, masking her features with a mask of smooth, unshakable confidence. She let a soft, compliant smile touch her lips, but beneath the satin blankets, her knees were trembling. She was scared as hell.

This wasn’t some common lord or a minor vampire she could outmaneuver with a clever lie. This was the man who had woven the very fabric of this realm. The palace, the court, the bleeding skies; it was all his real creation.

Vilucious was the architect of this absolute ruthlessness, a god of their shared nightmare, and she had just stepped right into his trap.

Vilucious shifted, the heavy silk sheets sliding away as he swung his legs over the side of the mattress. For the first time in memory, his royal boots remained discarded by the bedside.

He stood up, stepping directly onto the polished, precious marble floor, exposing his bare, snow-white feet; a sight unseen for ages, even by Florianthum. He was a magnificent figure to look upon, a masterpiece of terrifying grace, but a man with whom spending even a single second felt entirely too dangerous.

Turning back toward the bed, he extended his arms, opening them wide in an invitation that left no room for refusal.

"Come here," he murmured, his arms spread toward her, waiting to pull her into his embrace.

Florianthum slowly rose from the mattress, forcing a soft, yielding smile onto her face as she crossed the distance between them. She stepped right into his space, letting the embrace happen. But the moment his arms locked around her, her chest tightened with pure terror. It was a crushing, inescapable hold, and the exact words she had been dreading finally came whispering past his lips.

He held her close, his chin resting near her ear as his voice dropped to a low, intimate purr.

"Ezailum, you are my Lordess," he murmured, his breath warm against her skin.

"A Lordess is the sacred counterpart to her Lord. You can keep no secrets from me. All that I possess is yours, just as you belong entirely to me."

Florianthum knew she had no other choice. To survive, she had to lock down his trust completely, even if it meant offering herself up as the perfect bait.

She leaned into the pressure of his chest, letting her body go soft against his iron frame.

"Yes," she whispered, her voice steady but laced with a delicate reverence. "Your grace... my lord for everything."

Vilucious’s arms slid down her back, his long fingers trailing a slow, light path across the spine of her warrior outfit. The pressure was deliberate, a lingering caress that felt less like a comfort and more like a claim.

He leaned his head down, his reedy voice dropping to a soft, confidential murmur against her ear.

"Ezaily, just call me Vilucious for now," he whispered, his thumb lightly pressing into the small of her back.

"Everything feels entirely too formal between us, doesn’t it? How else am I supposed to truly comfort you?"

"Every time I saw you struggling in your past with this monthly matter," Vilucious continued, his tone softening into a low, hypnotic hum, "I always found myself wondering what I could possibly do to erase your pain for a long duration."

He pulled back just enough to look down at her, his pale grey eyes searching her face with an intensity that made the room feel even smaller.

"But in that greedy and judging world, I wasn’t able to help you," he murmured, his thumb catching the edge of her jawline.

"You remember, don’t you?"

"I- I remember," she stammered, her voice shaking as she forced the words past her lips, her eyes still pressed tightly shut. "The... the society, the eyes on us... I know you couldn’t, Vilucious."

Florianthum knew exactly what was at stake. Her body could easily become the sacrifice tonight, but this was her one real chance to turn everything back to normal. She forced her eyes closed, shutting out the sight of his pale, intense face as she drew a tight, shallow breath.

When she spoke, the answers left her lips in broken, stammering fragments, her voice catching against the raw panic in her throat. Yet, despite the harsh, bruising weight of his fingers digging into her back, she didn’t pull away.

She didn’t try to break the hold. She simply remained still beneath his touch, letting the violence of his grip happen without doing a single thing to stop him.

The final words of his mouth before a disaster completely took every security out of her body left his lips in a sharp, thin whisper.

"Then let us wash away the sins of that past, my love," he breathed, his teeth catching the skin of her earlobe as his fingers dug deeper into her spine.

"Starting with the blood you hide from me now."

BOOM!

Before the terror could fully paralyze her, that deafening, thunderous thud exploded from the royal entrance of his high-security, massive bedroom.

The heavy, iron-bound doors rattled violently against their stone frame, echoing through the vaulted chamber and instantly shattering the suffocating stillness between them.
